Root Flashing an update.....

I'm on the cm7.1 and I saw that there was a 7.2 update. Do I have to do a complete wipe or can I just reboot into recovery and install rom from my sd card? The only part of installing a new rom I don't like is that I have to go and do a back up of all my apps and then re-load my back up files which takes what seems like forever. It's a minor irritation, but well worth it. I'd just like to avoid having to do a full wipe. Thanks everyone

I always do a fresh install with any update. It's the best way to make sure no problems arise in the update.

Which ROM are you using, and what does it say on the OP in regards to updating it?

I would say it's probably fine to flash the update over what you have. But before you do: Make a backup, flash the update, and if you run into problems, do a fresh install.

:D

cm7.1/7.2 comes in few editions from different developers.
No need for full wipe if you are updating from/to same edition. But if you are changing editions full wipe is recommended. Backup always is a must before flashing.

In fact, we have moved beyond plain 7.2 to 7.2 RC1, so I definitely recommend upgrading, RC1 is almost always more stable in the world of software.

As stated above, if you are upgrading on the same ROM, you should only need to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing the update zip. ;)

By just wiping the cache partition and the dalvik cache you will still have all your data and apps, just where you left them. Most times you might not even notice that you flashed an update to the BACKside ROM until you start looking into the CyanogenMod settings and see all the tweaks and goodies JerryScript has added.

And other times it just turns into a mess. LOL

It's worth a shot, but be sure to backup everything first.
