Root Flashing Order?

LittleRedDot

I'm having issues getting CM7 installed correctly, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm flshing it in the wrong order? After a thorough wiping I flash the ROM, then the kernel, then the gapps, then the GPS fix... Then I reboot.

Any suggestions?

i usually only flash the rom and gapps in the same session. then i sign in and make sure that the rom is running correctly first. i make a nandroid backup then i flash the kernel. if my gps is off i can then flash the qualcomm drivers. it is just better to do it in steps and not do everything in one recovery session.

Maybe that's why my TB restore keeps getting stuck?

possible try wiping dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps with tb.

but really smaller steps is better. that way if anything goes wrong you can point to the problem a lot easier. rushing and doing it all in one shot is not a good idea.

so if you are having issues you can try and only wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash the rom and gapps. reboot it make sure that went well then wipe dalvik cache and cache again and flash the kernel and so forth. as long as you do not wipe data you will not loose anything and might fix any issues you are having.

I never go in any particular order....obviously ROM has to be first. Then I will almost always go Gapps then kernel, then any extras. I'm different from OCN in that I flash everything in the same recovery session. Using Amon RA 2.3 I've never had any issues. I always flash dt a2sd prior to restoring apps. After my phone boots for the first time (so prior to restoring anything via titanium) I will normally run the a2sd reinstall command in terminal emulator to ensure that the script will put everything in my partition, then after the phone reboots, restore everything from Titanium

Then for good measure, fix permissions after everything is done.

I'm with mizzou here, I usually do everything in the same recovery session and haven't had an issue. I believe the most important of the flashing process is getting a properly wiped base for the rom. I've always used calkulin's format all and vr superwipe, then wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash rom first, then GApps(if an AOSP rom), then kernel, then DT(if the rom supports DT, some roms like MikG use CM's a2sd)
