Root Forum change of address?

Well thats odd. Anyone else notice that the URL changed from
/all-things-root-eris/
to
/eris-all-things-root/
threw me off this morning when i tried to get on lol. just thought it was weird that they would need to change the URL after its been up for so long.

Just noticed it now - had cleared my browsing history and manually typed in the link.

Does seem odd; I can't imagine what purpose changing it would serve.

ya, it doesnt effect me too badly, but a lot of people could end up screwed by it. i wonder what the reason was though? looks like it was more than just the eris thread too, the incredible link got changed too.

im guessing it was a site-wide change, to get everything in the same syntax(before there were all-things-root-eris and incredible-all-things-root etc if you get what i mean)

My point was about the perception of the value of consistency, not about people.

Computers don't care how orderly URLs are, and neither do the users that click on them, or save them to bookmarks. They would appreciate it if they work correctly, though.

But, the point is moot, as it appears that there is a redirect mechanism for everything except the "folder" URL.

My browser comes right to the pages cited in a link from another site, with a quick redirect.

Have you tried an off-site link yet?
 
alls good in the hood. off-site links take a minute to re-direct, but they work.
still seems like a waste of energy, i dont quite get what the benefits of it are

The downside to web redirects is that web crawlers usually will not follow them. Pretty good chance that redirects tend to kill off good page ranks from Google - even if lots of folks from the outside world try to direct traffic to your site.

LOL. Foolish consistency on my part. If you try and use plain old "whitespace" to separate your post from the signature line (for instance, a bunch of blank lines), that won't work: whitespace at the end of a post gets ignored, so your post ends up getting jammed up against the sig. At least that seems to be what happens when I post. So... a bunch of whitespace and a small non-whitespace character preserves the whitespace.

One of these days I will figure out why my sig line sometimes appears, and sometimes it doesn't. Probably something that I am doing, but it eludes me.

its a feature of the site so that we dont crowd the threads with sigs. they only show up every 10 posts i believe.
