Found an iPod Touch on the bus today

Okay well I put up fliers along the bus route and already have 23 new emails within a few hours pouring in trying to tell me they lost the iPod. None of them had the right e-mail address attached to the App Store.

Hahaha, not surprised one bit.

Thats depressing...You should respond to the fakes. Tell them what dirtbags they are for trying to steal that ipod.

Unless of course 23 people lost their ipods

well the Itunes account on the ipod is an email address. so get that and email the person. there so simple and you know you will be talking to the owner. its under the settings. or try and download a free app and it will pop it up to log in.

This is all you need to do if you're sincere that you want to return it.

Let's go through the steps again

1. try to download a free app

2. it will ask for a password and show the Apple ID which is the email the owner used to set up the account.

3. Email the owner.

4. Done

All this posting of fliers is unnecessary and a waste of time.

You shouldn't be keeping it or returning it.

This is a gift from the Android Gods and in their honor we have to use it as a sacrificial offering.

Put it in a blender and we will all have good Android luck for 2011.

I will prepare the Ceremony. We must make haste before we anger them.

I wonder if he's REALLY doing something about it...

I saved a child today from death. True story.

Great sense of humor.

Have you looked at the Facebook app, if there is one? Better hope they don't have Hidden installed, where it sends GPS data and takes shots of the user using the camera and screenshots of the websites the perp uses. I know Macs have it and I doubt iPhones/iPod Touches are exempt from the app.

This is why I label my devices, with thermo laminated stickers that have my contact info in case I misplace my devices. If a good samaritan finds it he/she can contact me.

This Is prob a third gen touch. So no gps or camera.

Contact Apple. As long as the serial number is on the back, and it was registered, they will know who the registered owner is. My son lost his iPod at the smithsonian, and the person who found it tracked him down through the serial number.

Many people would do the same, but how would you feel if it was something you lost? Would you not rather the finder at least made some attempt to return it?

Is there not a 'registered' name under the 'about' settings?

If it was me...I'd contact the bus company, the Police and make attempts to track the owner given what clues there are on the touch. If I failed then fair enough, I'd keep it knowing I did my best.

This
Sounds good, in reality pointless
The latter solutions here are the best (no, not Jamors :p)

How ironic is it that today I found someones iphone4 in the men's restroom at my job, LOL. This thread immediately came to mind and BAM. I checked the person's itunes account and shot them off an email, just like that.

Haven't heard back yet but it shouldn't be too long before they check their email.

LOL, go to the local police station and turn it over. You are currently committing a crime. You are breaking the law. For starters, you are now in possession of stolen property. You usually required to return stolen material that excesses 100 dollars. You need to contact the police to report the phone as lost, use the above information to try to contact the person. If you do not, you can be charged with stealing the mp3 player, receiving stolen property, possession of stolen property, and/or thief of services. So not only are you begging for karma to nail you down the road, you are commiting a crime in which if you are caught can get you up to 1 year in jail. Not really worth the effort, go to the local police, turn the itouch over. Tell them that you wish the keep the itouch if the owner is not found with in the standard time frame, which is like 30 days. After 30 days, call the police, ask them if the owner was found, if not, you can legally keep the touch. Because I can say you are going to have a awkward conversation with the police if you are riding the bus one day, and someone screams, that is my itouch.

I never knew each ipod touch looked different that people could tell which one was there. That made me chuckle.

it would be nice if he returns it to the owner. never know might get a reward for returning it. I know I would give a person $50 to return my droid if I ever lost it.

there is plenty of info on these devices.. if the finder really wants to find the real owner. the email is soooo easy.. to the itune account and to the most contacted emails.

since the OP came on here to announce it.. I am leaning towards he wants to do the right thing.

or is he looking for us to give him confirmation and make his conscience feel better about keeping it?

Return it. Don't expect a reward. There's a thread on the HTC Evo Forum about Pay It Forward. Returning a lost gadget is a great Pay It Forward. It will come back to you one day as everyone has lost a gadget or valuable at some point.

The Outcome:

The person never replied to their email but they did have the phone turned off so I ended up calling one of their contacts and left my number. They were able to get in touch with me this morning and the owner had a happy reunion with their iphone4. He even tried to offer me $20 but I was like no thanks. I just did what I would want someone else to do for me if I lost my phone.

if he turns it over to the police station, i GUARANTEE they will pocket it. And I very seriously doubt you would do a year in jail for finding an ipod and not finding the owner.

but considering we haven't seen a response from the OP since he was informed about emailing the owner, I'm guessing he's going to keep it. I've lost two ipods. I would definitely return it, OP!

If you go to Settings Mail, Contacts, Calenders > Then Accounts > should come up with an email address. Thats if they've even got one. Some of the the email addresses you may have to be connected to the internet to see them.

I'd like to try and return it to the rightful owner face to face if possible.

Awesome! Its great to know that there are people like you out there who are considerate of other people and their belongings.
