Root Free wifi tether? Oh yes.. here's how

Confirming this works like a champ. Using unrevoked and have the OTA update installed. Very first connection gave "no internet access" but it's working like a champ since that first connect.

Thanks a ton guys. I think I'll drop a donation in the morning for this.

Make sure to delete all previous installs. That was my issue.

1.) Uninstall Wifi Tether
2.) Reboot
3.) Root again (because you rebooted)
4.) Install from above

Should work fine.

For all those having issues. If you had a previous install you must remove then reboot. And re-install from above link or go here:

I followed those instructions as well and I still get the same message "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"

For those with successful wifi tethering, are you able to share 4G connection as well as 3G data connections?

Yes, although I got terrible 4G speeds (worse than Speedtest.net was showing for stand-alone 4G on the phone alone; worse even than my 3G speeds, for some reason). But I did not do extensive testing, so it could have been isolated or network related.

i can get connected but not getting an ip on my device.

got it working, cant use wep on the evo. have to just use access control.

Install root
install wifi tethering at the top of this thread
open wifi tethering app
set ssid, access control list enabled, DO not check encryption!
Close wifi app(i had luck opening and closeing app, might need a reboot)
open wifi tethering again
click to turn it on
should see ap in your connecting device, click to connect to the wifi of your ssid you set
on the evo, you will see your device in the menu access control list
check the box to allow your wireless mac

should be connected and going. Its kinda crude steps but that worked for me.
