Root Freshly Partitioned..

yea my bad. i'm giving things too short of a glance. i'm juggling trying to figure this out (my suspected ocd won't let me start looking into this and not finish) and studying for my exam this friday. gross anatomy blows, my brain is BURNT

Holy smoke, I guess so! Don't worry, people in here LIKE to answer questions! :p

Can't guarantee the answers though,,,

so in the changelog for mikG i found that it says "a2sd support" under version 1 and by version 2.0 it says "Switched a2sd mem management to the default one (a2sd help will show u all the diff options)".

so since it's only "a2sd support" does that mean when i partition my card, wipe everything, reflash and restore my apps they will not automatically go to the SD card (since it doesn't specify a2sd cm) but rather i'll have to go the darktremors route per the dummies' guide?

dont take it out on the Evo...school comes first lol....we'll still be here when your exam is done lol...:D

Yeah, my favorite trick to get away from studying was to get up and walk down the hall and get a drink of water. I don't even LIKE water. I just didn't want to study.... :p

haha yea once i get this close to an exam and i've been spending the last week in the library until 2,3, or 4 am i start looking for any way to not study. today it was "hey, maybe i should look into that whole partitioning thing". problem is i DO like messing around with technology, so i often get distracted for longer than i should

I saw the same thing and don't know what that help is referring too. I was using mik3d b1, and have heard it is the same for 2.5, Get your card backed up, partition it, flash the rom, restore your apps TO PHONE, it will do it by itself.
If you have tb pro, for sure, it will show that partition is present and being used. If you have a 2 gig partition, it will barely change unless you put a ton of stuff in there, but it is in there!

Edit: I just stumbled through this a week or so ago, http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/415094-a2sd-question.html

correct. it has the support for dt a2sd. so you will need to flash it and use terminal emulator to push the apps to the card.

a2sd help is a command that you can use for darktremor that will give you the list of command. here are the list:Darktremor Apps2SD Command Line Help | Facebook

wait, that is exactly opposite of what i understood and have seen.

I did not have to use dt with m3db1, I just restored the apps and the went right to the partition.

now I am really confused...

ok sooo little bit of conflicting info i'd like to clear up...

"a2sd support" means that tb restore WILL NOT automatically put my apps on the SD card, but WILL REQUIRE darktremors.

however, dustwun, you are saying that you just did tb restore and your apps went to your SD card without darktremors (per that thread you linked)... but you are using mik3d beta, which you believe has the same a2sd support as mikG.

i guess i can just do the partition, restore, and see what happens. if they move automatically then i guess a2sd is "built in" (as opposed to "supported") and it was just left out of the changelog. if they don't, no big deal, i just flash darktremors and the console emulator and use the commands to move the stuff over (only another few minutes of my time).

is my understanding correct?

it sure is in the guide....you select the partitioning and moving apps to the card option....once you unhide it, scroll down to the one that says partition card...and you'll see it ....

swap is 32
1024 or 2048 for ext2
and the rest goes to FAT

edit: dustwun beat me...he's a madman on the forum today...i think ima grab a beer and let him handle it lol....

I'd ask you to grab me one but i think I am already drunk... :D

Yeah, I am confused too, at this point. I thought i read in here that 2.5 and 3db1 behave the same. I did not have to use dt on m3db1, when i restored apps with tbpro, I saw the content of the partition grow. so I thought it was working.

he's using Mik3d so it may be different on that versus Mikg...

well, his plan of action is sound. Hell, maybe he can tell ME when he gets through. lol

so where was that beer? :p

lol....its a good idea...try it and see if it works lol...on my way back to the fridge to get another...reading makes you thirsty lol

wise guy, :p

think I am gonna partition my 16 gig class 4 card and do the whole thing again myself. Think nans I make with that setup will work with new class 10 16 gig card if I partition it the same way when I get it?

i dont see why it wouldnt....its just a faster read/write speed....shouldnt have anything to do with affecting your nandroids....

You got that right, not to mention there are so many of them and so many pages of the results of people poking around with their set-ups. :)

Ha, they seem to be working on so many things at once, maybe they confuse themselves sometimes! :p

You get it right when we need you to though!

anyway, last night, I did partition my 16 gig class 4 card and put the 2.5 series on their fresh to flash. I flashed them right after another, by the way, wiping cache and d-cache between, before rebooting. Still haven't done the new kernel yet though. got to remember to do that... And make a nandroid backup!

anyway, tb couldn't find my apps because of the way I put stuff back on my card, moved the whole folder I had on my pc instead of just the stuff in it, had to figure what the heck was up and then straighten it out.

Anyway, too late to make a long story short, when I restored the apps back onto the phone, I could see the usage of the a2sd partition grow, in tb pro.

To test it, I dl'd that 18 meg angry birds game, that really helped me see it work. With a 2 gig partition, it is hard to tell if it is doing anything, but that big app gave it a kick I could notice.

so this conversation is kind of split on two threads haha but i'll just post here. partition successful, TB restore automatically put apps on ext3 of the sdcard once i reflashed mikG 2.52 ... so whatever kind of a2sd it had it's automatic, didn't even install terminal emulator. my ext3 partition space dropped a couple hundred MB upon app restoration from TB-pro.

great success. now to await the arrival of the class 10 card and do it again haha :)

I am thinking you can make a nandroid of this rom and, assuming the same size partition, use it on your new card after you prepare it. i am trying it with a class 4 16 gig card anyway, my class 10 is due monday!

Don't do like I did, I got 2.52 all tricked out the way i wanted it, made a backup, but forgot to check sd ext when i did.

That doesn't restore worth a dime... :D

that WOULD work if my ADD didn't kick in so I'll be flashing a sense 3.0 ROM next :D

Advantaged of being a grad student...free 2 day shipping. Returned home from my midterm today to a new flash card waiting at home... However
post exam beer calls so the phone experimenting will have to wait!
