Root From root to no root access..why?

So I rooted my HTC one s a while ago. Easy. Followed a guide. Then I went to install a font later(don't it several times) and then reboot and it shut off.. Realized I was on zero battery and that's why it would have reboot. Anyhow, I kind of *****ed out but eventually got into hboot and recovery. But still wouldn't reboot. So I restored an old backup on clockwork and it booted up but I don't have root access. With root manager it shows on my sd that u have cwm and supersu.... This is horribly extensive but I want my root back and don't want to botch my pho e. What the hell did I do. Thanks.

By chance was the backup you restored the original backup you made of your stock phone when you were rooting? I don't know how often you make backups, but I update my backups pretty frequently.

But it sounds like you restored an unrooted backup.. Go into your recovery and flash a rom or flash the supersu patch again.

It might be a lame question but is there a way to check which backup I'm on? I only have two one from the day I thought I busted my phone and I think my original.. That you so much for the advice!

Hey don't worry! There's no lame questions here. Asking and reading are the only ways to learn. I'm not sure if that's possible. What recovery do you use?

My thoughts.

Go into recovery and try restoring the backup you didn't restore and see if that gives you any difference.

Otherwise unless its a no-go, flashing su or a custom ROM to regain root would be purely a breeze as Brian mentioned.

I'm running the latest clockwork mod. I believe it's the latest. I'm going to try what you guys suggested and restore an old backup. The last time I tried to flash a custom rom I bricked my phone. Kind of an idiot at this. Thank you both such. Let's hope I can figure it out without breaking something

As long as you have a current back up and can get into boot loader/recovery. Have to go wrong badly not to get there.

Good luck, keep us updated

so i tried to re flash my su file and it just kept rebooting into recovery. so i restored my original backup to prevent hurting my phone.

Hmm have you tried flashing a custom ROM? Try doing that with a full wipe of everything (minus SD card)

what, in your opinion, is the best rom for this phone. (htc one s)?

I honestly couldn't tell you. I've never had a one s. Only thing I can tell you start looking at ROM threads and try to find one you would be interested in or one that's got the most positive feedback.

Yep! You can check your all things root guide to see a list.

I don't have a one s so I have not tried any one s roms. Best thing you can do is download the ones you want to try. Make a full nandroid backup in recovery and also back up your user apps and data with titanium Backup, my backup or rom toolbox!

Then flash away! Use your backup app to restore any apps you want on the new rom.
If you don't like the rom, flash the next. I you decide you don't want any of them, restore your nandroid backup and your phone will go back to exactly how it was before you flashed anything.

+1

Always remember, nandroid is your friend. Titanium is recommended for user apps but not required.

Hey Brian stop stalking me BTW jk :p
