Froyo Coming Aug 6th? Discuss

FWIW, I was talking to a verizon tech support girl today while working on another case. She went on and on about the X when I told her I just ordered one. Then she went into this big update coming on the 6th. I asked her how she knew and she said that what they are telling her since she has to support it.

Why does everyone go friggin crazy becaus of updates, omg, your phone is still working, they are the same people that will say the update bricked my phone, chill out, it will come...

Dude the phone has been out for just barely over 2 weeks!!!! CHILL OUT!

Ok.But how long have they had to to have this update ready to roll right after it was released. These phones are not designed built and shipped in a weeks time. They have had development Droid X's for a few months to have been preparing and testing this update on.

We really do not know if it was rushed or not.Maybe Verizon got caught napping.Maybe they were to worried about Droid 2 being the first coming stock with Froyo to notice Sprint was about to get the jump on them.:(

Or Maybe its not as big a deal to them as it is to you? Seriously I'd rather have them do it right than rush it out to beat the competition for a week or two.
The Masses aren't going to give a rats ass what version of Android is on it and VZW will have 2.2 soon enough.

Being first isn't always best.

The problem that Sprint has posted something publicly.Froyo starting 8-3 for the Evo 4g while Verizon leaves up flapping in the wind with no public announcement to counter Sprints announcement.

Poor baby why do you feel VZW has to "counter" anything Sprint does? To make you happy? NOT
"Flapping in the wind"? They've already told you/us Summer is it Winter yet? Geezzzzz The "I've got to have it now" generation.

No.Just tired of companies that gladly take our money for the next big thing then get lazy once they have it.

And what exactly do you base this "lazy" claim on? The fact the Sprint has 2.2 for the EVO (which came out BEFORE the X) Do you work inside VZW or are you just imagining stuff?

AND IT OBVIOUSLY ISN"T DONE!! If you even listen to your own words above then it would stand to reason that the EVO gets 2.2 becasue it came out first. (they've had more time)

Do you know ANYTHING about coding and testing cycles in a BIG company that has to deliver a working product to millions and they have to make sure it's as close to perfect as they possible can?

I bet You'd be the first one ranting and raving it was rushed out if it had a single bug.

People i'm pretty sure that when the droid x was announced, they said froyo coming "late summer" so we still have time!

Coming from an Eris I am not even close to getting upset about how long it's taking to get an update. Try waiting 6 months for 2.1, I think 4-6 weeks is pretty damn good.

Who's to say 4-6 weeks. It could turn out to be just like the Eris waiting and waiting.

I agree verizon could care less about sprint and their network that doesnt compare to theirs. If you are so worried about it go get an EVO

Why rush something that can be perfected? If you want it so bad YOU go and learn to crack the bootloader and make a2.2 rom, also people complain that motorola droid gets it next week, boohoo we get it on the 6th a few days later. Possibly..and if not maybe the bootloader will be cracked.

Why are people in such a hurry over 2.2? I know, I know-- performance increase and yadda yadda. But the Droid X is snappy, responsive, and it works perfectly fine. You bought the product knowing it wouldn't get 2.2 until late summer (which in MY book, at least, means the last month of Summer: September), and now you're complaining because it isn't here in the beginning days of August.

Honestly. Chill. Out. 2.2 really isn't that big of a deal, and it will come when it comes anyways. The thing you have to think about here is the business end of things. Most people honestly don't even KNOW the difference between 2.1 and 2.2. All the average consumer really thinks about is the physical portion of the phone. Most people look at the Droid and Droid X and assume the only differences are the screen and keyboard. Most consumers don't know the differences between a the OMAP processors or Snapdragon processors, and the amount of RAM means close to nothing to the average Joe. Knowing this, Motorola and Verizon will be more geared towards pushing the Droid 2 than pushing out an (overhyped) update for an already-released phone.

With that in mind, it stands to reason that the Droid 2 will be the main focus, with the X 2.2 update falling shortly thereafter. And, what do you know, that happens to pretty close to the end of Summer... or "Late Summer" like they said all along.

EDIT: Oh, and I've been using a Samsung Omnia for the past 2 years. Don't even begin to lecture me on not being patient enough to wait for an upgrade of some sort.

Yep, I'll be waiting patiently for 2.2 on the X. I'm in no hurry as I really don't see that we'll have much to gain, actually. We already have root, and the X is already very fast so I can't imagine it getting much faster (other than some browser enhancements).

Furthermore, it makes sense that the EVO and Droid would get it first since they've been out longer. I don't see this as a race. I would much rather have some extra testing done on the update before it releases. Otherwise the same people who are begging to have it now will be complaining that it's buggy and doesn't work right!

I'm more concerned about future updates. We already know that 2.2 is coming. What about Gingerbread? I realize it's still a ways off, but let's just hope that Motorola and Verizon continue to support these devices despite the incredible speed at which mobile technology is moving.

Okay, so I came to the X from a Storm 2, and before that a Storm 1. People using those phones had somewhat of a right to bitch about the lack of updates in a timely fashion because said updates were to address certain issues that most Storm users encountered. You wanna be impatient and childish, lurking around forums whining to everyone because someone else's device has the latest and greatest software a week or two before you and complain about how terrible a company is for making you wait? Use a jacked up device with hopes of a fix and then you will have every right to do so. But, when you have a device that runs smoothly, doing just what it is supposed to, minus the few exceptions that EVERY product has, you have no right to complain that your awesome smartphone is only moderately awesome and not super super freakin awesome. Also, let's think about rushing products in development... Once again we have a Storm situation. They rush devices or software out to the consumer because the consumer is bitching that they must have everything they want right now and it has bugs. Then, that same consumer who was bitching because they want their needs met now is hitching because they have buggy crap. The people complaining in here will NEVER be satisfied and my only complaint about someone like that is that they take a perfectly good discussion on what people think will happen to a self centered bitchfest about how they are second to receive something. Shut up. Shut the f@&% up. Be happy with what you have, especially when its awesome, or stop wasting everyone else's time with garbage about how your luxury product isn't but so luxurious because it wont do everything that an empty ass like yourself needs it to in order to feel some semblance of importance anywhere.
