Froyo Coming Aug 6th? Discuss

I read somewhere this update will wipe your data out on your phone. What exactly do I have to backup?. Hate to start all over.My contacts are backed up but music, movies and appts that I have bought? Hope this isn't a dumb question.:)
 
Not sure it will wipe out everthing but apps you purchased will show purchased in the market. For your free apps I would purchase an app that backs up your apps I have My backup Pro which backs up my apps. Your music should be on your SD card so that isn't a issue.
 
The 2.2 update will change your settings and apps just as much as the previous OTA update did. Read: Not at all.
 
So if we update to froyo when it is available (assuming august 6), will we not be able to root when root is available?

Correct me if I'm wrong, (which I probably am), but im getting the impression that if you upgrade before its rooted you won't be able to root down the road.
 
It says at the bottom of the article.

"With these devices receiving Android 2.2 very soon, now would be a good time to purchase any of these devices via the AndroidSPIN Cell Phone Store and receive the best prices around."

Kind of makes me skeptical about the validity of this Information.
 
Ok I am new here too and I received my first android phone in June 2010 (LG Ally) and then switched to the Droid X in July. I do love the android system and have no problems with the phone except the usual annoyances (bloatware and message history) I have been trying to read up on all the forums and find out what is the best course for me. I cant wait for the update, hope this fixes the volume and some of the other little glitches. What exactly is root and what would this open up for me besides wifi tethering (which would be great), should I do it for or after the 2.2 update, should i get launcher pro before or after the update? Any information would be greatly appreciated, i am trying to get the most out of my phone.

Oh and whats your feelings on Advance Task Killer and Antivirus....

Just heard back from the most reliable source on the forum. Froyo is unlikely to debut on any device before the droid 2 comes out with it first. It seems to me as is we have another month of waiting at the very least.

Your source is most likely correct. The Droid 2 supposedly is coming with 2.2 either out of the box or very very shortly after release. The X and the Droid 2 are very similar software wise so it would be hard for me to believe that they would release froyo before the Droid 2 comes out.
 
The D2 is basically the same phone as the X minus the big screen plus a keyboard. That basically puts them at a wash. So they have to let the D2 have something over the X simply to move units.
