Froyo + Inconsistency = Gingerbread

lol...

ok...first i did listen...i was talking about the hardkey lights...not all the other issues you have with Gingerbread

however, you're still wrong about the lights...

as for the rest of the issues...i will point you to all the people on these very forums that have been running GB for months now with none of those problems to indicate that these are NOT inherent issues with Gingerbread...

i will ask the same question i ask everyone that has had problems...did you do a data wipe before upgrading to Gingerbread?...if the answer is no then that could be the cause of your problems...

there is one way to truly try and fix this...and a data wipe is not the answer...you can either SBF to Froyo and install the update on a perfectly fresh Froyo install...or use the Gingerbread SBF file to install a fresh copy of Gingerbread on your phone...

you obviously don't remember how HORRIBLE the initial release of Froyo was on our phones either by the sound of it...

you obviously have an app causing your battery issues because even on Gingerbread its possible to get quite good battery life on the X i took this screen cap and still had 40% of my battery left...so its certainly not just a Gingerbread issue with the battery...

i can honestly say that i have experienced none of the problems you have...im sorry that you have...but saying that Motorola screwed up royally is also not the case...proven by the fact that many people are not experiencing issues like the ones you are...

if the update was just plain bad...then everyone would be experiencing these problems...

the reason i find some of this amusing is how easily/quickly people forget things...in this thread i see people saying how great, and stable...even the word "stellar" was used to describe how great Froyo was...

it TRULY makes me wonder if you guys had your X's, or were around the forums when Froyo first launched...because it was a mess of wifi issues, and random reboots...it was slow, it was laggy, it was ugly...it was just plain TERRIBLE according to some...

and here we are some 10 months later and it was the best OS made....oh how easily we forget...
well u still didn't listen! Me and my wife have the x and both got data wiped still the same problems then Verizon sent out 2 replacement phones with exact same problems so they sent out 2in more witch im on now and still screwed up phones! So I have done all I can but its not a hard ware problem its a gb problem!

And yes I've had a x since launch day and went threw the froyo update and it was a upgrade not a down grade.

you have NOT done all that you can...;)

a data wipe can only fix some problems...problems with apps and their data...you obviously have issues in youre system files...if this is going to be fixed its not by a data wipe, but by an SBF flash...

your problems are NOT inherent GB problems and my phone and the phones of many others here are PROOF of that...

IF the GB update itself was actually causing the problems...we would ALL be suffering from them...like the camera bug...we ALL have that..THAT is a problem with GB...bad battery life, crashes, reboots, lag, things like that?...NOT inherent problems with GB...YOU just happened to have a bad flash...it sucks, and im sorry...

And yes I've had a x since launch day and went threw the froyo update and it was a upgrade not a down grade.

then you above all people should realize that what you guys are saying is wrong...

so let me get this straight...

according to you Froyo was an upgrade...Gingerbread is a downgrade...

what would someone say that updated to Froyo and their phone turned to crap, and Gingerbread solved all of their problems?...

in your opinion then...would they be wrong in saying that Froyo was a downgrade and GB was an upgrade??...

these people existed...and there were LOTS of them that had nothing but problems after flashing the Froyo update...many people had random reboots right up to the day that the first GB leak hit and BAM, their reboots were gone...

in REALITY...both updates were and are upgrades from their previous versions...yes there are bugs in both, and yes some people had nightmare experiences with flashing them...and the majority of people were pleased in both cases...

Well, I have been running GB .595 for several weeks now and have had no issues.

In the OP you mention big companies releasing buggy software, well look at what Microsoft does to all of us. They release an OS full of bugs and then patch it later...that is basically the way the tech industry works now-a-days, not pretty, but it is reality. With so many lines of code it is impossible to always caught all of the bugs, but I think MS could catch alot more than what they do :)

How would 6 phones all have bad flashes? 4 of the pre loaded with gb when I got them? And o don't know how to sbf my phone or I would back to froyo in a heart beat! All of my phones have been stock with very few apps other than stock.

I figured out how to adjust the "feature" (not issue) of the hard key back-lights. Poke your eyes out with an ice pick. You will still notice the lights but they will not be nearly as bright.

Motorola and Metfanant ;) are officially calling this a feature and I'm sure they will not include such a nice feature in the future because they are spending to much time (money) justifying to people that complain about it (the bean counters at Motorola are not happy).

Regarding battery life this does not cause any noticeable difference.

And for the record I am happy with Gingerbread.

1. i truly don't believe that 6 phones had bad flashes ;)
2. if they did...you have to remember that every replacement phone Verizon sends you was sent back by someone else...the phones that you are sending back to them as broken...are then being sent to someone else after being refurbished...

its not a feature...just a choice in settings that they made...you don't happen to like it...

i can't believe i have to spend so much time here defending a global corporation

Like Metfanant has said, the brighter backlight to the buttons are a design choice by Motorola, not a bug. I personally haven't found them to be an issue for me.

Gingerbread has worked great on my phone through being smoother, faster, and having slightly better battery life than Froyo. Software updates don't always work nice.. identical hardware doesn't always work the same. So, Gingerbread ITSELF works fine (aside from the camera bug and maybe a Bluetooth one); it just may not work the best for YOUR phone, just the same as some ROMs work better for some phones compared to others.

Flippy, I first hope you better educate yourself in spelling of even the most basic and commonly used words. Secondly, read some of the stickied guides in how to SBF your phone. It's really not hard, and it could very well fix your issues.

Bad battery life is solely because of Gingerbread itself? I think not

That is with 5-6 hours of screen on time, 45-60 minutes of calls, and quite a lot of texting, FB browsing, and streaming music.

^I was gonna mention that about ROMs. 2 ppl with a Droid 1 using the same ROM and kernel: one is happy as a pig in slop about their phone, other one is still trying to get their phone to work right.

One has great battery life, one says it doesnt. One say their phone is better now, one cant wait to get that ROM and/or kernel of their phone.

I dont know what it is.

was nobody here when the first Froyo update hit??...when Froyo first launched on our phones it was a MESS

you also have to take into account what people are considering "issues." If their complaint is that "the hard key lights are too bright!" That is not an "issue," that is a design choice they do not like..not a fault in the software itself...

How can you say that with 100% certainty?

You can never say anything with 100% certainty...but there is no other reason for it on phones that are otherwise working normally...

Its not like the camera bug where you're inputting a setting that wont keep...

What I am saying is I can't be confident that they intentionally made them that bright. I don't see the benefit/logic of messing with the brightness when they never addresses the inconsistent action of them coming on and off at odd times in Froyo. I know this happens to many Android phones, just not the X. Not saying you are not right, just saying I don't know what 'their' plan was.

Well the spelling is the phone it changes words that are right and even adds extra words. Yea if I do that little petty stuff my battery will last for ever! My phone been off charge for 12the hours since launch im on vacation and im at 80% battery left. But I watch tv shows I have loaded on my sd all day when im working and with the home keys not shutting off its killing my battery. I don't think im smart enough to sbf my phone all by myself I've never done anything like that.

^you see the bar for the display, the %....that means he's been actually using the phone. Even the voice bar and %.

1) Do you work for Google or Moto? Then you don't know its a feature. It doesn't work.

I see that! That's using it very little in my book! I would watch vids from my sd card with bluetooth on for 12 hours without charging solid! Yes I have 2 bluetooth headphones! Now 4-5 hours and its dead. Plus having to mess with the bluetooth every hour because it goes nuts now. If the bluetooth wouldn't go nuts and my keys would shut off when watching a vid id be happy and I think my battery would go back to 12 hours hours.

I've experienced a few issues since Gingerbread:
1. Random reboots. The phone reboots randomly, sometimes within a couple of minutes since the previous reboot, sometimes a couple of hours.
2. When the phone isn't rebooting spontaneously, it tends to loose cellular data service after being idle. The only fix is to manually reboot the phone.

I haven't taken the time to do a factory reset... I want to backup all my data on the microSD and format that first, and I've just been too lazy. If I'm still having issues after that then I'll try an SBF.

With the display on for that %....that means the screen has been on either off n on or continuous for an extended period of time.

I did a battery test for my phone last year and it lasted 29 hours. Screen was on for 4 hours. At least an 1/2 an hour of use for everything I could think of.

Any time you use your phone alot doing things on it that involves the screen being on, the display is gonna have the biggest use.

I can listen to mp3's for 2 hours and have lil use from anything cuz the screen is off. It doest even use Android OS alot.

You said you watched vids from your sd card for 12 hours with no charge? Thats probably unheard of. Amazing even. Maybe over wifi its possible.

Bottom line, there are more ppl having decent battery life and experiences with GB than the opposite. Just like with Froyo. Something I forgot...when doing major OS updates and probably factory resets apps get reinstalled. Some apps might not be compatible with GB or be causing issues like bad battery life and whatnot.

Yes 12 hours no charge vids on sd card and on extended battery!
