Froyo on Hero!

Wow... somehow when I updated to 815, it of course did not show any apps such as the market etc.. so I said, I'll just go back to my trusty 2.0d nandroid, well it didn't let me flash back to the backup. Along the way I installed that new recovery mode given in the ROM... bad move. It didnt allow me to flash from my prev nandroids. Had to find it in my memory card (on my PC) mode it to the new folder that the new recovery mode made, it took a LONG time for it to perform a restore from backup but it did and my Hero is back to normal...

Won't be tinkering with this ROM until the final version is released...

Are you guys wiping everytime you install a new nightly update? I'm using titan backup but even that seems like a pain to restore apps everyday.

I usually don't wipe at all. If anything I just wipe the cache. I haven't found it to be necessary to wipe and have not had any bad flashes.

i love this rom but for the life of me i cant receive a text message.i can on fresh 2.3.3,but not on any froyo roms.i always backup and wipe.sending text is no problem on any rom.I've tinkered with this for a week straight and i cant figure it out !!?!! any help would be greatly appreciated. MAHALO

Not real familiar with setcpu but I can tell that if you flashed one of the nightlies, you won't be able to overclock above 691. You will have to flash the overclock zip to go higher than 691. ;)
That said, I have tried to overclock, enable jit, vm heap and I, on my phone, have not seen significant performance differences. So when I flashed 815, I stayed with the default settings and my phone runs great.

I'm totally new to all of this rooting and rom stuff. And to make matters worse, I'm not very tech savvy. There is just so much info out there, it is hard to keep it all straight.

I'm currently on a HTC Hero running android 2.1

I would basically like to install android 2.2 and from what I can gather I need to first root my phone and then install a rom that is android 2.2

So, what rom's are android 2.2? It looks like CyanogenMod 6.0.0 Test 2 or Test 4 are android 2.2 I have seen Fresh 2.3 mentioned here a lot, but is that not android 2.2?

Also, my carrier is nTelos, not Sprint. Does that make a difference?
Thanks for any help.

Is it normal not to see the Market or be able to add your mail accounts?

You have to install the Gapp rom to add google stuff to your phone to get the market installed on this rom.

Google stuff

Correct, you must flash the Google apps separately. Its in Google terms you must not include their stuff in custom ROMs without an agreement set up.

This is the newer Google apps package for Froyo, includes the new Google Search and whatnot.

Uninstall setcpu, there is no use for it on a rom such as this that is already overclocked and scales on-demand.

well it is still overlocked to 691mhz by default so unless you wanna go higher (I personally see little difference) you don't have to flash anything else.

i am considering flashing froyo, but i am just wondering what exactly will be different from my current rom zenexp? i know there is no sense ui, but what all does that entail? does it still have facebook integration? sorry, but i have never used anything but sense based roms. i tried darchstar for a day and did not like it at all. also, will i need a different recovery? and if so will my old nandroids still work? i thought i read about someone having trouble with that

The ROM itself doesn't have facebook integration, but thankfully the Facebook app has a way to sync your contacts profile info/pic to your contacts. And yes your old nandroids will still work

Well, I have to admit that froyo is just what I've been looking for. Hardly any lag, very smooth, and not too hard on the battery. I'm using RC1 and the camera works great, as does MMS.

The only thing that I didn't like was the keyboard but I figured out how to change it. This is going to be great when the final one is released.

I do have to say, I love this ROM. I, of course, got used to Sense UI, and when I first started flashing, I went for Fresh. Fresh is great and all, but I just like the feel of this ROM! It is fast, no hiccups, no mess-ups, no nothing! Definitely a stable mod, and once you get used to it you can customize all you like!

Thanks and can't wait for the final version to be released!
