Froyo RUU update available

I'm on an branded t-mobile uk desire. Do I need to use an gold card or just run the update? How do I back up my T-mobile connection setings too?

Cheers

Ignore this, I'm being an arse! lol I'll use my eyes and read it properly next time! lol

Hi,

I'm completely new here and I registered myself because the Wifi on my Desire stopped working after the latest OTA update 2.10.405.2.
I have an unbranded Vodafone device and wasn't aware that the Goldcard had to be in the phone before installing the update...
Is there a way to fix this without having to reinstall all my apps again?
Or is the only way to solve this installing the latest RUU which will do a complete clean install?

Preet sure this is your only option. However you can minimise your work.

Titanium backup or astro for apps
Have google contacts

I was back in business in like 10 minutes

One easy way to remember is that if you ever had to make a gold card for your phone then it has to be in the phone for further updates!!!! Just make the card that you keep in the phone a gold card then the problem is solved, but I would make a back up card just in case something happens to the one in the phone!!!! I have three made, one in the phone and two backup cards. Hope this helps with further problems.

Thanks for the answers!
Meanwhile I found the solution for my problem (without losing my apps or data) :D in another thread on this forum.

I think I will make a backup of my usual SD card and convert it to a Goldcard afterwards.

ok... stupid question of the day...
how do you update OTA?
By default, the software does regular checks from the update server and if one is available, you will get a notification that a new update is available for your phone. At that point all you do is follow the prompts. If you want, you can check manually under Settings, About phone, System software updates, and select Check now to see if one is available for you phone. An unbranded phone firmware will get the update directly from an HTC server. Any branded phones, like a Telus, O2, Telstra, etc. will check with the carrier's server for updates and it usually takes a month or so to get those due to branding by the carrier.

Thanks... updating now. Good thing i made my 8GB a gold card.

I got my htc desire black from orange yestaday and just installed this new RUU, worked perfectly i now have an unbranded phone with froyo 2.2. thanks!!

did you figure out how to fix this or did you do a factory reset?
thanks
I always do a factory reset after any kind of flashing to reset everything. I still don't know why I lost those two things when everyone says the update doesn't affect your settings. It might have been a simple glitch and it works fine after the factory reset...I'm not too concerned about it as a sync fixes the calendar and the news widget is really easy to setup.
:D

Soory for this silly question but I really don't know.
I have a Desire that i bought unbranded (i.e. simlockfree, not bundled with an abo). Do I need a Gold Card to install a RUU ?

if its truely unbranded then no you dont but then you should have recieved wireless updates

where did you get if from? just because its unlocked it doesnt mean its unbranded

Just a quick question about the new OTA update. I debranded (O2) with 2.09, and I still have the Gold Card in the phone, but I didn't get the 2.10 OTA update, and nothing's showing when I check manually. Should I keep waiting, or is there something amiss?

read the other ota posts, it looks like it was pulled for whatever reason

Managed to get Software number 2.09.405.8 onto my HTC Desire using first RUU file in Post #1 in this thread. Tried checking for new software but no updates found. Also tried latest RUU in Post #1 but that just gives a USB connection error [170]USB Connection Error (after around 30 seconds of showing "Verifying information on your Android phone...). Any ideas? First RUU installed fine.

I have exactly same issue so would be grateful of any advise.

I could never get that second Ruu to install on my phone after four days of messing with it and getting the same error message I gave up!! I even tried two computers and never got it to install but did get the same error message on both computers. The OTA did install though.

The second updated RUU file will install, but you MUST update the drivers with the latest HTC Sync program v3.0.544 or it will throw the connection error 170. Once you have that Sync version installed, it will work. Make sure you uninstall the old Sync version and the driver package that came with it, then install the new version.

Having said that, I dumped the newer version and went back to the first RUU and installed again. It works better for me than the update as I noticed a couple of minor lags and an app I use a lot started crashing with the newer update. I'll stick with this version until something newer and better comes along. I have disabled the automatic check for new versions so I won't be bothered with any updates until I'm ready.
:D

^ Version 3.0.5422 appears to be the current version on the HTC site. Do you know where you can get version 3.0.544 from?

Well after all my whining and after I installed ths OTA I decided to try the second RUU again just so I would get the updated radio and so I downloaded it from the first page and ran it and it WORKED finally. I am glad I did because it did speed up the connection to AT&T's network quite a bit so to me just for that it is a keeper!!!! Plus before I could get only four bars of signal once in a while it would show five but now I have full five all the time!!!!:D

Oh and I did not do anything different except download the ruu from the link in the first post, no driver update or anything!!!! STRANGE at best!!!

Hello guys.
Does this update work on every type of Desire?
I am currently using the Desire from Telus Canada, which is the SLCD one.

Can I follow the instruction to upgrade to 2.2?

Thanks

Yes, I believe so. I have the Telus Desire, unlocked on the Rogers network, and I did the update to FroYo version 2.2 without issue. I also have the S-LCD version and the posted version includes drivers for both display types. You do need to convert the 8gig memory card into a "goldcard" to install this and all other updates, but once done, it's a goldcard for life, so have at it.
:D
