Root Froyo Source!

From the Moto X event live blog (engadget)...

1:41PM "If you're a third party developer who's built an app for Android, you can talk to it from the cloud." Talking up Froyo -- it's being open-sourced as of today.

Woot!

I think with the Verizon event being held today, we all are probably gonna be surprised. I don't know, but I think it is a little more than just for the unveiling of the Droid x

So I got a question though, is cyan finished with his rom from source yet? :)

I guess those of us that flashed Froyo Kangerade V1.1 will be flashing yet again in a few days, once a ROM built from source is released.

I said this before, but I'll say it again. THANK GOD I'm a teacher with the summer off. Otherwise I wouldn't have the time to do all this tinkering. And I get to take care of "Droid business" while my wife is at work so I don't have to deal with the "quit playing with your phone" comments from her.

When you say 'finished', ummm...AFAICT, all of the CMs are built straight from source....Obviously I am too into the Isner Mahut match to really think about what you mean,

Froyo rom explosion in 3......2.......1......

Hopefully!

@John: He meant has Cyanogen already dl'd and built a new ROM from source since it's official as of today (he was making a joke). There haven't been any official 'from source' ROMS built as of yet - only modified leaked builds.

What does "from the source" bring to the table that we don't already have? I ask because I have zero issues with the original BB Froyo and the speed is great. It just seems that I can do everything already. Not that I don't welcome new builds but at this point I want them to bring on Gingerbread.

@istolvampire: It allows the devs to completely custom tailor the OS for a specific device, from the ground up. Theoretically, it also allows for more stable ROMS.

Bringing a ROM from source means you have complete control over how the software is compiled, for your specific hardware, as opposed to a generic / ported ROM from another device.

Same thought here, I'm on Nexbeast .1 at 800 mhz, smooth, fast, no fc's.

building from source also allows them to make a lot more changes that cant be done by hacking up a leaked build. The reboot option in cyanogenmod on 2.1 is a good example of something that could only be done when building from source

froyo source is also going to mean better kernels as well. Bekit is already working on new kernels

But wouldn't this mean a more stable BB? A large number of people have had problems with his recent froyo roms.
