Root Froyo thoughts

i just downloaded it. my guess keep trying cause it took me three trys to download it. and i was using wifi internet through my phone to my labtop cause my internet went down. it took about a hour way longer then its suppose to.. but i got it though..

Could someone possibly make a backup and post it on here, so anyone that's having problems could use it in recovery? It would be greatly appreciated

I'm trying to figure out what I've done wrong that mine is working when it sounds like it shouldn't be from reading these threads, LOL :D

Here is what, and ALL, I did.
1. I had gone back to stock because I thought I had to. Got PO'd because there wasn't an update on the 17th like we were told.
2. Went through the process of installing z4root and re-rooting my phone.
3. Installed ROM Manager (yeah, I know, don't bust my chops here) to get Clockwork Recovery installed so I could then get Amon Ra Recovery installed. After that - Bye Bye ROM Manager.
4. Installed Velocity v0.4 and did all the updates available in the Market.
NOTE: All those steps were on the 18th before I found out about the LGU version of FroYo.
5. Decided I couldn't wait until the ROM Gods cracked FroYo and decided to take my chances.
6. After a struggle with a recalcitrant firwall at work, I was able to get the update to download and install once I got home this morning (the 19th).
7. Loving FroYo, and finding that everything I usually run didn't require Root access anyway. Very Happy. :)
8. Read Indifferent's post, downloaded and flashed the recommended version of SU from his link. (I'm guessing I must have had the prior one required when I went to Velocity v0.4.)
9. Installed Root Explorer which I had previously purchased and was able to grant it Root access.
10. De-bloat-ified my Froyo.
11. Found a good program to move apps to the sdcard.
12. Encountered much satisfaction and joy. :D

Either I lucked out, or this really isn't as hard as it sounds.

Cheers - hope this helps someone.

One question: Couldn't people who went stock before they ran the update use Death's post http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/257859-unbrick-lg-ally.html to get back to 2.1 and then root, install a custom recovery and re-update to FroYo?

Ok there are a few things to know first..

1. I had a custom rom/recovery (amen ra, clockwork) already rooted before I took the update
2. I used lgmu not OTA
if you have those 2 things you're fine

(MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE OUT OF DATE SUPERUSER STILL, IF NOT GET FROM MARKET).

Steps:

1. Download the LGMU tool
2. Install that
3. Download the latest SU (in OP).
4. Make a backup of your current setup and place on computer
5. Plug your phone in via USB and allow the update to run, once finished you should be able to boot completely and have froyo.
6. once you're in download the latest SU (in OP if havent already which you should've).
7. flash that w/ custom recovery
8. Clear cache and reboot.

Should work, thats the process me and a few others did..

@Soco and Wg, when applying the LGMU while still being rooted w/ custom recovery does not remove your root access just makes it out of date.

This process worked on my phone and I still have root. - Thanks
I had to turn off Signature Verify to flash the SU but everything worked fine
I also did a total clear on the phone, "Wipe ALL Userdata" Before I flashed SU becuase I wanted to start Clean with 2.2.1
I also installed the "Wireless Tether" APP which is working fine with this ROM, I installed this becuase the built in Wireless Tether requires that you purchase the plan from Verizon Wireless.
I also have EasyTether (I purchased this before I rooted the phone) and this APP works with this ROM also.

yes flash also works too.... yea it is best to wipe everything clean and start fresh... i didnt do it and it was very laggy. everything works fine now...

Anyone else having the text message issue I stated? notification is whichever one you set in settings/sound no matter what you change it to in the messaging app

nevermind...found the basic notification has to be one of the factory ones, then text and other notifications can be whatever you set them at

Also, it seems they decided to take my thread down...anyone have info on this? If I did something wrong, please let me know!

i have the same issue. any luck on a solution? did wiping the cache work?

nevermind... just a couple posts down...

How are those of you who took the update liking it? I'm running velocity 0.4 now, and I'm teetering over taking the FROYO plunge or waiting to just get it nicely packaged in 0.5

Hows the performance compare between the two?

I would wait if I were you. Just be patient. I won't be long. 2.2.1 is OK, but the custom ROMS based of 2.1 were way better. The most annoying thing is all the ads popping up everywhere and not having the ability to delete "Myspace" and all the other crap apps that they shove down your throat.
