Root Frustration with evo 4g recovery red triangle. Please help!

I'm new this stuff and today I was able to unlock my evo 4g. I know this because when I power on with volume down button it says unlocked up at the top. Anyways I want to put Mikg on my phone. I already have it downloaded and put on a different sd card. When going to recovery I get a red triangle and wont go any further. I tried putting the PC36IMG on the sd card and it went on. When holding down power and volume down it isn't bringing anything up to update or whatever. PLZ help me. Thanks

if you can't get captain's PC36IMG file to work. there are a few ways to get recovery on an unlocked evo.

Could you post everything what is written in your bootloader screen?
The reason I ask is, you said you are s-off, meaning someone, somewhere fully acquired security off... Meaning, depending on your hboot version, we may need to direct you a different route

Let's concentrate on the adb method then for now.
I assume you still have your Android Folder with the 3 files in it?
Did you extract the recovery_image file from the .zip to your folder? I would guess you did.
Then when your phone was plugged in, were you in fastboot? i.e...did your screen on your phone say "fastbootusb" when plugged in and running that command?

now open a command window at the Android folder..then enter the commands exactly as printed

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

hmmm, that is odd...are you able to post a computer screen shot of your command window?

not sure, I think it may, but check that box and try the command again.

can you list the files you have in your android folder? and you do have the recovery.img file in the android folder correct? and you are opening the command from the folder, correct?

and one last question, normally when you have the phone hooked up to the pc, your computer is able to see the phone and have access to the sd card, right?

same thing man... i get 2 sounds from my computer as if the phone is disconnecting/connecting to it and then red triangle...

yeah the red triangle means you do not have recovery yet. we need to this first before we can go there.

the other suggestion is to try the PC36IMG method.

@eskripot--thinking about what ocn said (when you come back tomorrow)
The 3 files that should be in your Android folder should be:
adb.exe
fastboot.exe
AdbWinApi.dll

along with the recovery.img file when you run the command.
Just double check that tomorrow...
(those 3 files are at the beginning of this guide if you dont have them.)

Otherwise, we can try the PC36IMG file as ocn suggested...although I am curious as to the "waiting for device" prompt that comes up after you did that command?

to verify that fastboot is working you can enter

fastboot devices

and see if it sees your phone or not.

guys... the frustration of all day rooting yesterday lead to lack of logic. apparently it was the first time i connected my phone to my pc (i am a mac) so the drivers installed and I had to restart my computer...

ahhhh that was my next question about whether you were on a pc or not. LOL

sort of. just move the file on to the card, no folders.

basically yes, no need to put it into any folder, just on sd card itself.
When your phone is booted up and plugged into computer, mount the phone as disc drive and pull up the drive on your computer...not sure how a mac does this tho, as I am on windows.
What you see on your computer when your phone is plugged in, are the sd card contents.
Just drag the .zip over, dont unzip it.
