Galaxy Nexus Battery Life

this is my screenshot from last night. On wifi most of the day, with moderate use of browser and Fb app.

Is there a way to get percentages for how much of the time it was awake and had wifi, GPS, and screen turned on? Apart from wifi, it's tough to tell from the graph.

It's relative. People were expecting more because other LTE phones seem to do a bit better. FWIW:

There were early some battery issues with iPhone4S, but I believe that has been mostly resolved via software update (someone correct me if I'm wrong... I don't have one myself).

From what I've seen and read, and my personal experience with iPhone4 and 3GS, iOS is better at power management. To be fair, the iPhone has ~39% less screen area than the VGN and no LTE, but is also has a much smaller battery.

I'm thinking the upcomming 4.0.3 ICS update will resolve battery issues.

Charged ny extended barttery overnight woke up at 7am, been on the phone since then now its 839 . Battery is down to 55% . An hour and half of usage down to 55%.. can this be normal?

Depends. Is this your first day on the extended battery? It's obviously either an incorrect battery level indication, or something (phone or batt) is defective. The only thing normal is that if it's the first charge & first day of use, you can expect to have to go through another couple charge/discharge cycles to get everything ship shape.

I had my phone at 830am on thursday lol

Today I got excellent battery life. After 7.5 hours I was at 50%, did a lot of web surfing and texting. At that point I decided to charge back up to 90% and download my entire music collection from G-music, 10gb worth. Music is currently at 86% complete and battery is at 4.5 hrs at 17%, not bad at all for the 80+ pictures I took tonight, web surfing, app downloads, and screen on at 50%. No complaints about battery life.

I conditioned the battery prior to first use and I beleive it has helped.

Wait wat? Google music catalog has to download to your phone? I thought it was all streamed? Or do they just down load a piece of it to get it started immediately every time? Is this the same with Picasa?

I wonder if this is an issue with causes of poor battery life if you are unaware if it is doing its thing in the background...

That's why I returned mine, but it was worse....I ran mine through 4 full charge cycles and it was was better friday morning but I was still down to 30% after 5.5hrs and maybe 1hr usage....

Hmmm I wonder though now..I could have a extended battery sitting there at work charging and just swap them out everyday before I go home!?!?...the end end result would be 3 minutes of downphone time but having a fully charged battery ready to go everyday right before leaving work....

Hmmm maybe I will go repurchase it today :)

First full day with the phone yesterday....standard battery.

Turned it on at 7am....was at 5% when I turned it off at 11pm to go to bed.

Pretty normal texting, some surfing the web on wifi, 3G and 4G. A few more phone calls than usual and even some video chatting.

I got the extended battery in today....not nearly as much use....a couple of texts and some 4G web surfing for 5 minutes. Been on for 3.5 hours and I'm at 77%.

I'll be interested in seeing how it does this week with a few days of work and then family stuff and traveling for Christmas. It'll be a good test and break in for it.

I don't see myself getting rid of it....it's pretty slick and I'm not sure I'd step down to the razr for a couple more hours of battery and have to wait for ICS for a few months. I pretty much charge my phone every night do its ready to go the next day...so 12-14 hours is alright for me....hopefully it'll get close to 20 with the extended battery and a good break in after a couple of weeks.

I do miss old flip phones though where you'd charge once a week. Can't wait until smartphones are to that point.

I believe it only downloads to your phone if you check the option for "make available for offline use."

Mine streams.

There are a few people looking at what appears to be an issue regarding battery life. The top layer of battery use reporting shows what the OS is using, but if you go to the next level down it turns out that the OS operation is not using all that much but Keep Alive is a major user. The thinking is that something[/s] is/are forcing the OS to stay active when it should be sleeping.

Give some people are seeing good battery numbers, its possible that there is a specific app or apps that are causing the problem.

It look possible that fixing this Keep Alive issue would remove a major drain on the battery, and that's what is being researched right now.

I've been seeing the keep awake a lot too. Enough that the OS is higher than my screen. After 8 hours yesterday the OS accounted for 38% to the screen's 26%. The cpu time was 1h 10m while keep awake was 2h 2m. So last night I fully charged the phone; then I did a reboot and turned off data. In the morning when I looked at the battery graph it showed the phone as awake for 25 minutes during the middle of the night even though the screen was off. Any idea what process can force awake in the middle of the night. I guess I need to turn sync off if something is trying that with no data connection.

Also, the keep awake time was another 25 minutes, which is why I'm guessing the awake bar seems too long to be just 25 minutes.

I took mine off the charger last night at 100%, around 12am. I slept until like 9, and used the phone for texts and calls all day. The phone died around 3pm after I played angry birds for a while to try to get it to die.

I don't really see much of a problem, I'm used to horrific battery life after my incredible. Charger at home? check. Charger at work? check. Charger in car? check.

Thus is the life of a smartphone user

Completely agree. The Incredible had awful battery life. The Thunderbolt wasn't any better. I should have my phone by Tuesday (2 day shipping, ordered Friday) and I look forward to using the hell out of it and living near a charger forever.

Okay, tbis may be stupid but how do I tell the difference between the extended battery door and thw standard? Ive gotten them mixed up. Stupid, I know...

This is on the extended battery. First go around with moderate to heavy usage, I got 12 hours out of the first charge. Second go around with light usage, mostly in standy, I'm getting:

Now, the Android OS is sucking up a lot of battery in standby, as mostly everyone has noted. However, knowing that it can only get better from here, I'm very happy so far considering this is an LTE device.

The extended battery door will have slightly rounded/curved edges. When attached to your phone, the extended battery door will sit flush with the hump at the bottom of the phone. With the standard door, it'll sit thinner than the hump.

Something is definitely up with Android OS on the Gnex. I noticed on my touchpad running CM7 that after almost a full day of standby, no usage at all, that the battery was at 86% and the android OS was like 6% with only 6m of CPU usage and 0 awake time.

Now I know the touchpad with android is a custom version of android, is not 4.0, and the touchpad isn't a phone, but this just leads me to believe that the Gnex Android OS issue is definitely a software issue of some sort.

I need some advice. I am getting horrible battery life. So far 4 hrs and down to 32% with the stock battery. I have all the syncs off, wifi off, 4g off and I am still getting the battery life I reported before. My OS is at 52%. Screen is only 19% and all I have used the phone for was light internet and texting.

Any advice on how to help me out? How to reduce the OS? I would appreciate it thanks!

With moderate use I am happy with my results.

Overall I'd say my usage was a little under average. 20ish texts, about 10 emails, 25 mins of talking, couple youtube vids, took some pictures(including panoramic), streamed 10-15 mins of music from Google Music, and minimal internet browsing.

I do have an extended battery and I do not have Facebook (which I feel can be a large drain on a phone). I have my weather updating every three hours.

With the potential of 24 hours of battery life I really cannot complain!

Edit: Oh, I'm rooted and disabled the three VZ apps that came with the phone: My Verizon, Verizon Login, and VZ Backup. I also have Nova Launcher installed and disabled the Google search bar.

Dude! Your phone is a BAWSS (see any Rick Ross video for a definition)!

i'm new to android. can someone tell me if this is "in the ballpark" -

on standby during the night my gnex drops 5% battery life per hour. this is after 3 full discharge recharge cycles.

edit: stock battery, wifi on, mobile data off

Standard battery. Pretty light use over the last couple days. Texting, a few phone calls, little bit of Maps use, and minimal web browsing. Pretty much how I expect to be using the phone normally. Also - I have wifi on all the time, so when I'm at home or the office, it automatically switches to wifi and thus there's no 4G sucking the battery down. I'm sure that has made a big difference.
