Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

It looks like someone already received their N5 and tried an already activated Verizon sim.

Well... with the vzw sim, it just hangs at the "activate mobile data service" screen with the option to skip. Sorry.

Anyone on Verizon going to try the N5 with their sim card? - Page 10 - xda-developers

There are more people on that thread who are going to try and I imagine someone out there is going to try and find a way to get it to work.

I'm sure with radios and whatnot it won't happen, but it never hurts to try.

Wish me luck. I'm going to do sume surgery on my Gen1 N7s tonight. I'm going to try and combine my 16GB functional internals (smashed screen) with Evans (good screen) as his charging port has gone bad.

I've watched the videos about a dozen times and it seems easy enough. It's just a really small computer, right.:p

Good luck!

Anyone wondering about Ender's Game....it was good. Read it in high school but the only thing I remembered was the battle room, which would have looked awesome in 3D. A reason some might not like it? It moves fairly fast. Not a spoiler...it is mostly about his emotions/psyche than anything else.

Yep, saw Ender's game as well. Great movie, looking forward to the rest of the series! Even my wife liked it, and she's not that into sci-fi.

Ugh. I'm using the iPad Air now, and I'm seriously missing my Note 10.1 with the S-Pen and multi-window.

I almost went back to Best Buy a couple of times this weekend, but this Air doesn't lag AT ALL, and today it's been a beast with work PDF's and meetings.

I just really miss the ease of handwriting with the Note 10.1

Dammit, Samsung. Dammit!!

Someone really needs to build a capacitive stylus with a tip as fine as the S-Pen.

I don't think that will ever happen. What stupid Apple needs to do is build an iPad with a digitizer. I have no idea why it hasn't happened yet, except that they don't need to. All the sheep happily come mewing along and chew up whatever is fed to them, regardless of whether they've been basically consuming the EXACT SAME THING for the last 2 generations at least.

"Hey, this iPad 4 is so fast, no lag at all, it's all instantaneous!"

"Woah, this iPad Air is even faster!!"

Makes me sick. And I have to use it.

You can't use the S-pen on any tablet?
Nope, the S-Pen is not capacitive.

I know the S-Pen doesn't work on my G2.

Here is a pretty good description I just found on XDA:
Almost all other phone styluses are just capacitive and therefore no more accurate than your finger. The Galaxy Note's active pen uses Wacom's EMR patented technology. EMR which stands for Electo-Magnetic Resonance, which requires no internal power to generate a signal on the pen-side that enables the pen coordinates on or above the screen to be detected (the display provides the power rather than the pen). The Note's screen surface incorporates a sensor board that detects the pen's movement. Weak energy is induced in the pen's resonant circuit by a magnetic field generated by the sensor board surface. The pen's resonant circuit then makes use of this energy to return a magnetic signal to the sensor board surface. The digitizer board under the screen detects information on the pen's coordinate position and angle, as well as on its general operating condition including speed and writing pressure, etc.

With EMR Technology, the sensor unit is installed behind the display screen. Because the sensor does not cover the front of the display, the quality and brightness of the displayed image are not compromised.

Wacom's sensors are high precision and high resolution, which together make it possible to detect even small hand-written letters. The sensor traces the movement of the human hand and reproduces such "human" elements as the feel, force and ambivalence of the pen tip.

The dual capacitive multi-touch and EMR active pen technology is called Wacom Feel It and was developed and honed over 2 years on major ( HP, ...) Tablet PCs. The Galaxy Note is the first use in a smart phone.

Surgery went well, patient is in recovery, I hope.:p

After following the instructions and completely disassembling the donor, I realized I could swap out the micro-usb port by only removing the rear cover, speaker assembly. So the organ recipient didn't get the full teardown. Heck, I didn't even remove the battery. Right now it is sitting on the charger unresponsive. I'm hoping (assuming) it is in a critical state of discharge and if anything is doing a trickle charge. I hope:afraid:

I'll post back if something changes. Pics below.:D

Verizon Wireless shows up on the list of available networks for the N5 but I'm thinking that is on there as default.

Where do you see that?

It doesn't have Verizon's CDMA or LTE bands in the FCC filing. Its not compatible. Were seeing reports of people poping in already activated Sims and it still doesn't work.

The N5 doesn't have the CDMA/1x band to support Verizon I believe. So you could only use it on the AWS LTE band which is very limited right now.

It’s too much, it’s too much! I can’t take using a tablet without that wonderful S-Pen! Argh.

Ah, Samsung, you laggy, tempting siren! I think I’m going to go back to Best Buy and exchange back to Note 10.1.

Argh!!!!

I tweeted Tmobile yesterday saying I would switch to them if they would cover central Pennsylvania. Today Verizon tweeted me...Where's the loyalty? Why would you switch to another carrier? I'm here to save this wireless relationship.

Tmobile also responded with something about always working to improve, yadda yadda yadda.

Hey everyone. Crazy couple of days here. My coworker/buddy's wife had to have an emergency c-section to get the baby a month early, but everything is expected to be ok. Then my youngest had a cardiologist appt. Yesterday. He was diagnosed with atrial septic defect, basically a hole in his heart between his left and right atrium. It will need surgery to fix, but thankfully can be done via heart cath, no open heart surgery, and also the only complications from the condition are due to progressive effects of living with it for many years, and since we caught it very early, no lasting complications are expected once fixed. And there is always the chance it fixes itself, they are going to wait a couple years before doing it just to make sure.

Finally woke up to my daughter's light being on in her room, went to check up on her, she is sleeping on one side of the bed, and evidence of a stomach bug on the other side, as well as the floor on the way to the bathroom. Poor thing is miserable. But she didn't come wake us up for some reason.

I hope all are on the mend.

Wow, rough few days man. Hate to hear that about your youngest. Great to catch something like that early though! Hopefully it fixes itself. No surgery is minor, but it sounds like the docs had confidence in a great outlook. Hope your daughter gets to feeling better as well! And hopefully you guys won't contract whatever bug it is!
