Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Google has finally commented on the barges. All they say is that they are high end show rooms for people to learn about new tech.

An ethical conundrum:

I have owned a total of three 2014 Note 10.1 tablets; 2 of them were returned (one because I didn't like the color and one because I bought the Air. The third is what I am presently using). They each came with "perks" including $25 worth of Google Play credits.

Should I use all of these credits? Or should I only use one set?

What do you all think?

Oh man, use 'em. You're like half way to this:

No lte Nexus 7 on Verizon for a while. Certification process is on hold until Nexus 7 KitKat update. Then it starts again.

For those of us who are still on the GNEX, let us know your thoughts.

It's not my main phone, just a backup I use for streaming music at work. Seems to have picked up speed a little bit. The swype left for Google Now is nice. Don't know if it's the ROM but lockscreen widgets seem to be gone.
Really dig the wallpapers though. :)

Hmm, Google search is getting weird on 4.4. Keep getting black screens when it searches:
I think there's some sort of fix, but looking for it now.

It has a dark sense of humor.;)

Hey Steven!
Tried any Kit Kat on your Gnex lately?

I did, actually. It's got a LOT of free RAM, but it's not ready for daily driver status. I tried slimKAT. The dpi was too small. I'm going to wait for CM 11. Once that comes out as a daily, there's probably be more kitkat flavors available.

I'm just running Shiny (11/2 build). Outside of the bugs with Google Search, seems to be nice. Kinda like the larger icons. But, it's still my tinkering device so relying on it isn't a big issue.

Time to watch the new Thor...

Hope this one is better.

OK, so a week ago or so, some questions came up about whether apps were native or whatever and I gave a rundown of what was what, including Google's quiet acquisition of the company that was working on precompiling and optimizing apps.

I ended it with the personal opinion that I didn't expect to see any of that in 4.4 - and I was wrong.

Google made a big splash about JIT compiling in Gingerbread. I miss the fun youtubes that they used to make to explain what was new under the hood btw, but I digress.

Here's what they told us was in 4.4 - http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/

Here's what they didn't tell - introducing ART, the new Android Runtime to replace the Dalvik -

http://gigaom.com/2013/11/06/google...-potential-replacement-for-dalvik-in-android/

Curious 4.4 users - start your Developer Options.

ART is still experimental and incomplete.

http://source.android.com/devices/tech/dalvik/art.html

But to the extent that you may be able to get an early preview, I was wrong with that prediction.

Enjoy. :)

PS - the blogosphere will be sensationalizing and misrepresenting this in 3... 2...

PPS - think it through, always make a backup before tinkering. ;)

I was reading a ton of stuff about ART around the internets lately - can't believe it was totally secret until 4.4, but the early reviews say it make a huge difference.

I'm excited to try it out.
