Happy new year, everyone! Geez, what a past few weeks. First I had to return my Nexus and now I have to send back my (thankfully unopened) badly designed, bug-ridden 64GB Transformer Prime. Thanks to the brainiac engineers at Asus using a unibody aluminum enclosure with no plastic areas for wireless signals to pass through well, nothing does. Can't run bluetooth and wifi simultaneously. They disabled the 5GHz wifi the wireless chip would normally support. Wifi range is worse than anything else connecting at the same range. The GPS doesn't work because of the enclosure, unable to hold a satellite lock, so they decide to remove it from the feature list. Slow file transfer rates. Inserted microsd cards aren't flush with the chassis. And ICS, though coming on the 12th, won't fix all these things. If Han didn't end up getting one of these things, he's not missing anything but disappointment. Yes, it's fast. Yes, it has a great screen. Yes, the Tegra3 chip is amazing. But there's no excuse for basic functions just plain not working. Thankfully the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A700/A701 and Lenovo's upcoming unit (both with Tegra3 and full 1080p displays!) will emerge soon. Time to put my Asus on eBay. With all the people waiting for Feb deliveries, I might as well make it available (without price-gouging) for those who can enjoy it despite the flaws.
