Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Wow, congrats! My three children are such a blessing. Drive me nuts too (And have gray hairs at 27 to prove it!) ;)

Thanks! I was so excited yesterday getting the GN, then this wonderful news sprung upon me. Reality check! lol It's great I'm very excited and just started getting gray in my mid 30's. I've played all my life now it's time ;)

Thanks! That sounds great. And how's the "coverage" compared to the DX? Are you finding the signal strength is the same as you had with the DX as you travel around? Moto always made good radios, even if they didn't support the device software too well.

Oh, the Treo? What a mess Palm was. Releasing phones that were never ready for release!:)

Where *I* am, it's so so, as to my 4g access. I only lost the 4g signal last night one time, but that was probably from everyone using their service last night, about 8pm. I even lost 3g at the same time, so not sure what was going on then. Late last night, it was strong, giving me around 11 to 15 down, and about 3 to 4 up. Today, roaming around town a bit, I had a full 4 bars (and the "4g" was blue as well.)

I know you didn't ask about the GPS, but I'm having GREAT luck with the GPS! I have been having a lot of problems with my DX finding a signal, but my Nexus finds one, usually in less than 2 seconds.

Sadly (but more happily) not, things took quite a turn yesterday morning, I found out I was becoming a Dad :D, so with priorities needing to be set straight I did not get the wifey a GN just myself. She said she could wait and thinks the GN is too large for her.

Oh wow! Congratulations! I guess practice made perfect!

Hmm, I must have got a bum USB OTG cable off ebay. It's not working. I should be able to plug it in and then plug in a usb device and it will work correct? Am I doing something wrong?

Tried with a flash drive with no luck.

Anyone else have there NFC toggles/beam toggles greyed out and unavailable? What might cause this? I have unlocked BL and rooted and added recovery. I am wondering if I need to relock BL to get that back??

Probably ninja'd, but no problems here. I did disable NFC and Beam to see if that would fix my battery life problem.

In all unbiased honesty, I do feel that the major drawback to the phone is battery life. I highly doubt any other 4G phone is better, but that's the only thing that bothers me.

I just ordered an extra standard battery with it's own charger. Should be here by Tuesday. That will alleviate a lot of my concerns.

Incase anyone noticed this it was fixed with a power down and battery re-seating. Guess the options grey out if it can't detect the stuffs for NFC that are on the battery. Is it just antenna on the battery or is the chipset there also?

3 kids at 27? Wow...you got busy early, lol. I'll be 28 in June and have no kiddos.....yet. Actually looking forward to it though after playing with neices over the past couple of years.

Yep, my oldest son Isaac will by 5 on Jan 17th, My daughter Ryleigh is 3, and baby Noah is 11 months TODAY. Isaac was SOOO excited that he got a baby brother for his birthday (1 day apart) last year. He is so great with him too.

Congrats, J! Great news!!

....stupid google has decided to move the menu drop down to the to right of lots of stuff like goofs. I'm left handed so this may not be such a big deal for others.

You do realize that you're in the minority, right? If they had to put it somewhere, it was always going to be on the right.

lol

:D

My wife also says the GN Is too large. :p

That's what she said.

Oh, wait - that is what she said. nm

Love the names Anti you're awfully blessed!

Sweet, it looks like you can use the stock back and the extended battery will still fit! That makes me happy!:D Now I don't need to take 2 back covers when I go on trips!

Well got my first reboot. I'm sitting at my desk actually working and I look down and I see "GOOGLE" in white letters on the screen. Let it sit a minute and it's in the boot process.

I hope this isn't a recurring theme!

And just to make sure, I didn't get the 4.0.3 update.

Hey everybody,

I'm excited, my Nexus should be here w/in an hour!! Quick question regarding the extending battery and included larger battery cover:
Will this work with the diztronic case, or would it be too tight?

Thanks, I just posted what I had to do to fix below if you notice the same thing in your battery swapping.

Battery life is kinda what I expected really. I knew mine would be horrid as where I sit in the office had bad 3g reception on my OG Droid and killed it fast. 4G here is better since its a way lower frequency compared to the PCS 3G we have with VZW around here. But pretty sure regardless of what I set it too I am going to get bad battery life as 4G is just not battery savvy and my 3g reception is too weak for decent battery life. We can swap battery so all is well.

I am still not sure what my eventual battery life will be as I have been messing with streaming all sorts of things that didn't stream so hot on my crappy 3g connection. And have also enabled the VoIP stuffs to mess with it, but it hits your data also even when not actively being used just to stay alert for incoming calls and such. I think the life will be reasonable once I scale all this back on the extended battery.

Yeah Isaac has special meaning, at 4 months into the pregnancy, it was discovered he had a blockage in his urethra, and the ultrasound showed no amniotic fluid. That doctor recommended termination, as bad as the blockage seemed, my son would have no kidney or lung function at birth. But because we had faith, God spared him, and we got a screaming (i.e. perfect lungs), peeing (blockage not full) baby boy in the delivery room. So his name was Isaac. :D

Weird it does NOT work on mine the stock back cover will not stay shut with the ext battery inserted...

Wow! Chills :)

I'M HERE! Only took me 24 hours to find where you guys went...

So I called tech support and the lady was VERY helpful. I have been having terrible reception, and I didn't know what to do. In a house where I have full 3g with my Droid X, my bro in law's Droid X, and my sister's Dinc 2, and I am supposed to be getting full LTE coverage (even the tech support lady said I should be getting full LTE) I get 1 bar of 4g which ALWAYS switches to 3g, not only 3g but 1 bar of 3g...Often times 0 bars and it still says 3g. I can't send or receive calls, and texting is often times hard to do. I pretty much can't do anything in the house without being connected to the wifi. When I go outside the signal increases, but barely. I did have full 4g further in the city where I am, but it wasn't for long. I have been over in the Nexus section (first impression thread ect.) and A LOT of people are having issues, but on the other hand a lot aren't. I have heard Sammy's radio's are sub par, I'v heard there are defective units...Whatever.

The rep said that they are sending engineers to the area to see if it's the towers but since they haven't gotten any other compaints, it is probably the unit I have. I really think that since I once did have good coverage further in town, that the radio's are just awful on this phone, and I may have to resort to something else (which I really don't want to because I really love this phone, but not having reception is kid of a big deal)

So there's my start to the Nexus...Not exactly good.

EDIT: Oh and to add, I have heard that the 4.1 OS update is supposed to improve reception a ton (P3) but with the news today that 4.0.3 is going to be the base of ICS from now on and we don't even have it yet, my hopes of getting 4.1 soon aren't very high...

I've had one reboot as well late last night. Not a biggie if that's all there is going to be :D
