Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

lol

Yes, I'm alternating between frozen peas and frozen corn, actually.

So what you're saying is you have PORN on your lap (Peas + Corn = PORN). :D

Han, those pain meds are ballin'... because the pain can definitely make you testy. I hope you don't go nuts limping around the house. Hit the sack and relax.

;)

Wow...seriously???? You guys are gonna let this one slide without so much as a chuckle? I'm about to pee myself here. Well done, Chief, well done!:congrats:

EDIT: BTW, Congrats on 4K chief.

Ok guys & gals - WiFi tether and my laptop are not playing nice today. I have used it before but tonight my laptop will see the hotspot but won't connect. Any ideas?

Are you using the built in tether from a ROM or the actual app? I generally use the app and don't have any problems. Make sure you're device specific and have it encrypted.

The app. I've tried it encrypted and not encrypted. Nothing works. Nyxie rebooted twice while trying as well.

Well, the razr is acting up again. The thing did fine while out chasing today, although it was mostly on 3g, I think I lost the connection once, for a few moments. Back at home and the device is once again cycling through the extender, 4g, 3g, 1x, wifi. I even rebooted it. What a let down :(

Nice.

What app do you use for radar when you are chasing? I just started using PYKL3 on my Nexus.

I use:
PYKL3 (but not often enough)
Raindar because it gives me storm tracks
Weather bug elite for basic and sharing quick info like radar maps and such

Can you "borrow" a different router from Best Buy for the weekend just to see if it's the phone or the router? I did that with my Netgear routers and ended up replacing all of them with Cisco.

I could. But I am not. I am past screwing around with stuff just to make it work. Turns out I got to jump through hoops just to unroot this thing. Was going to take it after work tomorrow but I get to spend time with the PC and phone and download more scripts to un root.

I seriously think I am done with this rooting / hacking business.

I just went to verizonwireless.com/shareeverythingcalculator. It recommended that I go with the 6GB plan. With 3 smartphones my new bill would be $200 before insurance and taxes. Currently I pay $200 before taxes but my insurance is included. I need someone from Verizon to please explain to me how getting less for more is beneficial to me. Please don't tell me we now get wireless tethering included free. I already get it included free with root. I truly rarely if ever use it. Once per year on vacation maybe. Verizon may very likely see that smartphones are a luxury, not a necessity. When you offer luxuries at necessity prices don't be surprised when customers disappear. Adios after this contract. Back to dumb phones for me.

Morning everyone! Well, we're leaving for the park in an hour so I'll be gone all day riding some great coasters. :D
And, I know it's been discussed everywhere, but I really feel naked without my Favorites list. :( Hopefully it'll be back up and running by the time I get back.

His post did seem a bit weird with the "ballin'" comment, because that is so NOT chief, but I don't know, it's Chief! I assumed it was a random word.

He's so innocent!

Ugh. My wife is jumping ship to AT&T once her contract is up. No way she is paying full retail for the iPhone 5 when it comes out, just to keep unlimited data when all she uses is 0.5GB per month.

I, on the other hand, am unfortunately stuck. It really surprises me that Verizon lasted this long without screwing us over in the unlimited data area.

I know you're finished messing around, but try one last thing if you're so inclined, which made a huge difference with my home wireless range. If your routers or access points are dual band, disable the high band. So if it broadcasts at 5GHz and 2GHz, force it to use only the low band. Really helped all my devices maintain their connections.

Mine would also be $200 before taxes an insurance and I get 20% off monthly. $50 for 1GB is just absurd. If they want to start at $50 then you should get 10GB for that much.

I do think that is Verizon's biggest problem with this plan, the way they separated the charges makes it look like they are jacking up the prices on data by a massive amount. Combine that with the end of grandfathered unlimited, and no one is even paying attention to the reduction of price in their unlimited voice and text half of the plan. I honestly think they should have broken up the charges into three sections, the line access fee based on the device, a "voice/text access fee" which is fixed, and then the data bucket fee. Even though it would have cost the same, the visibility is different. PLUS if the plans really flop, they could offer a reduced voice/text access fee with a tiered minute allowance, for those who want a cheaper plan. For example:

Line Access Fee
$40 / smartphone

Voice/Text Access Fee
$40

Data Fee
$10 - 1GB
$20 - 2GB
$30 - 4GB
$40 - 6GB

I know we aren't fooled now, but I honestly think if they had gone with this, the complaints wouldn't have been nearly as severe.

Have fun! And I'm also lost without my favorites list. I haven't been reading about it though...what happened to it?

It is something on the circuitboard I think. It's a RTF park flyer, so didn't have real radio components. thanks anyways though. The extent of my flying now is one of those syma micro helicopters in my living room. Tons of fun though. I also have Great Planes G3 simulator that I will mess around in just to keep me "current" :D

It depends on which PZ P-51 you have... if it's the newer one with a brushless motor and 2.4GHz radio, I'm sure I can scrounge up something to help you. If it's the older version with the brushed motor/gearbox and a 72MHz radio, then yes, everything is soldered into one board which makes repairs more difficult. The offer still stands, of course, so if you want or need anything I'll see what I can find. Always happy to help a fellow modeler. :D

I was able to sell the Pawnee to the gentleman on Thursday afternoon. A bit of a problem; he brought a friend of his who's more experienced with airplanes. His friend said there was something wrong with the prop (which I never noticed) so I offered to knock $100 off the price. His friend tried to talk me down another $50 but I held fast. As they were leaving, my guilt took over and I offered to PayPal him another $50.

Next day (Friday/yesterday), before I had a chance to pay him, I got a call from the guy who makes the props who said he received a phone call from the buyer, wanting to know "what he was going to do to make it right". Now that bothered me a little bit because I already gave him $100 off the plane and if he gets a free prop from the local guy, that means he now has two props and got $100 off the plane. I emailed the buyer and said, let's see what the prop guy says before any more money exchanges hands and he agreed. The prop guy said he'd call me with the verdict because now I'm curious to see if his friend was right, or just trying to chew me down a little on the price. I hope I don't regret this. :(

Finally, I wanted to let everryone know that I've got a Razr Maxx on the way to me from Verizon. I had the one-way audio issue again the other day and I called Verizon to ask when the heck this was gonna be fixed. They said they still show it as an open issue and he checked Samsung, who doesn't even list it as an issue anymore. And since 4.0.4 didn't make a difference in the radios for me (I still see a lot of grey 3G and have to either toggle Airplane Mode or reboot to get it back), enough was enough. He said I can try the Maxx and if I don't like it I can just send it back, no problem.

So I hope you guys will still let me hang out here, even if I'm no longer a Nexus owner. I'll also be looking for some root help on both the Maxx and the Nexus because I want to buy Titanium Backup and move my apps. I've got a lot of time invested in Drag Racing and I want to move my progress. :D

Thanks Lucky, but yes it is the original. I worked in a Hobbytown, so most of my stuff is legacy from there. I had built up quite a collection of park flyers, electric helis and cars, plus the sig kit. (oh, and a bunch of plastic models and supplies, and a decent lionel collection... I don't know why I worked there, I spent my whole check there anyways :p) Anyways, yeah I still have it because it will look good hanging from the ceiling when I get my hobby room someday. :D

I believe that AT&T and Verizon have some locked bootloaders. So maybe T-mobile or Sprint. Not sure about Cricket and some other less know carriers?

I guess hacking is not the only thing. I know if I had a GSM network I could import devices. Getting a bit tired of these locked down out of date and carrier crippled devices

If I go somewhere else, it will be on T-Mobile. They are going LTE-Advance in 2013. Original believer of Android's potential back in '09 and yeah, World Devices unlocked and unfettered. And surely to carry the next Nexi.

Beware the razr! I am returning mine due to pretty much the same issues with my device but inside. It cycles like the nexus and thus, drains that massive battery while it sleeps.

Its a shame too, because its a solid device otherwise

That's all fine and dandy, Jmar... IF T-mo is huge in your area. Here it's Verizon 4G or NOTHING. So Big Red really has me over a barrel. I hope you're right about T-Mobile next year and I hope they choose to bring LTE-Advanced down the I-24 corridor. Then adios, Verizon :)

BTW, my son turned me on to the word "ballin'". Apparently it's a young-person colloquialism that is very similar to what we call(ed) "rockin'". It's a good thing, I guess.

EDIT: CONGRATS on 1,000+ posts, Dawnierae! :D

I feel bad for those who live in monopolized areas of cellular coverage. I am lucky to live in the Silicon Valley with more choices than most. Wasn't trying to put egg on anyone's face. Anyway, I hope T-Mobile does make it to your area Chief. They are super dev friendly and did I (and others) mention, unlocked global devices!? I want a unlocked Nexus baaaaad! For now I will stick with my Prime!
