Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I understood your comment and appreciated the sarcasm Pup! :D I would love an electric or assisted electric like the Volt or Leaf, especially if my plant would put in some charging stations in the parking lot. I only have a 35 mile round trip commute to work so I could make it here and back, but charging here every day would be nice and I could say my car was nuclear powered ;)
 
Any electric for me would be, as my electricity comes from Plant Vogel. Its getting the first new reactors in the US since 3 Mile Island :D

It's been interesting to follow that situation Anti :) With Watts Bar 2 coming online hopefully next year, the new units at Votgle, and possible new units at Bellefonte the nuke industry is pretty excited. Just hope politics don't get in the way :(

Yeah, it's about time, Nuke is such a great power option, and while I haven't bought into the whole global warming issue, I won't debate lower emissions aren't a bad thing.

Honestly don't say this to offend Penn State fans or anything, but it's in the news today and kind of bothers me. The news that the board members at Penn State intend to appeal the NCAA sanctions as well as the general defiant attitude shown by some of the fan base goes to show that the penalty wasn't severe enough. If you can honestly sit here and say that Penn State didn't deserve the punishment, then I'm afraid you have problems. It once again shows that they are putting Penn State football above all else.

This thought occured to me this morning when I heard about this. The nuclear industry has a regulatory body called the NRC. They levy fines and provide oversight and inspections to the nuclear industry. In general, their top priority is to judge whether or not your company/plant is putting money/production first or the health and safety of the surrounding general public first. If they see a negative trend, they provide oversight and fines. If they determine that you absolutely are more concerned with money/power production than you are operating safely, they shut you down till you prove you have changed your mentality.

Lets equate that to the NCAA and colleges they provide oversight to. I know the NCAA is a corrupt organization, but in general (in a round about way) they try to protect the kids being recruited to the schools as well as the public by attempting to prevent corrupt uses of money (let's be honest, they aren't interested in creating a level playing field). Penn State, by hiding the facts and harboring Sandusky to protect their image did not have the safety of the kids or general public in mind in that selfish decision. The problem with Penn State wasn't Sandusky. It was those above him who found out yet did nothing and that permeated SEVERAL layers of administration that was not limited to football.

If the NCAA were the NRC and Penn State were a nuclear plant, they would be shut down indefinitely. Why do we think it's ok for them to continue operations because they are a football team?
 
I only follow the Atlanta Braves when it comes to any pro sport. I casually follow any pro team that has former players from my university. The Pats have one in Kyle Love. The Eagles have a couple in Fletcher Cox and Jamar Chaney. Ravens have a couple, 49ers, Bills, Seahawks,...that's all that come to mind immediately.

I don't disagree. My only beef is with the taking of way of wins from all those kids that played their hearts out. And for most of us, JoePa will always be the coach with the most wins.

Yeah, I don't buy into global warming either, but if it weren't for all the overhead that is necessary because of government involving construction, licensing, etc....nuclear would be insanely cheap. It's still one of the cheaper if not the cheapest option even with all that. And cutting down on pollution is still a good thing even if you don't buy into global warming ;)

I honestly don't care about the wins. To me, they could have left them and I would have been fine with it. It still doesn't change the fact that they won those games and Joe Pa is the winningest coach. Had a lot of respect for the man until his final few months and all of this. Morals and judgement aside, he was still a legendary coach. The fines and stripping of wins were image and PR attempts by the NCAA. I wish they hadn't imposed those and just killed off the athletics department for a couple of years. Force PSU to clean house in that area. To me, the appealing of the sanctions says they still have that mindset and still don't understand the gravity of what they contributed to. That means they need stiffer penalties....just my $0.02.
