Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

No work for me today. The foot of snow in my driveway and street pretty much shut that down. Of course, none of the aircraft companies are officially closed because they don't want to have to pay people.

Haha I bet you and I could go on for hours on griping about the aircraft industry. :p

he i love snow sent it here to me its upper 30's today so we can same a little bit hehe :D

i think i am going have to agree with everyone here i think geting rid of backwards compatibility will kill PS... i hope xbox has i(if not ill keep my 360) but i know even to today the 360 is only 200$ and i can still play my old original xbox games on the thing so i don't think have the capability wont add them much of a cost unless they use different game formats in that case there would have to extra readers and software i can see that getting expensive

I would count on the xbox having it because of their joint agenda with game manufacturers (along with Sony) to kill used games. I know for Sony the backwards compatibility was quite expensive for the ps3 because the first gen consoles had that feature, and sold for 500/600 depending on storage space. Then the second gen consoles removed this feature and the price subsequently dropped by like 200 dollars.

They're trying to move in to the online market. By killing off the original disc compatibility they are forcing you to purchase it in their market place. I read an article about this a few months ago.

yeah i didn't know this ... I have never been a fan of PlayStation ... my friend got a ps3 on launch night then brought it back to the apartment and we played for 5 hours straight then the thing started smoking and burnt its self beyond repair... he took it back and got his money back he didn't even want to even try and get a new one

That's what they're telling people, but that's not the real motive. All one has to do is look at what Electronic Arts does currently and it's attitude towards used games. For example, if you bought Madden 13 used, you wouldn't have access to online content without paying another extortionate fee to access the content. If you bought the game new, you get that content straight out of the box.

For these new consoles, I've heard that with the game you get a one time code that you have to enter, which gets stored in an online database that when the game runs, it checks it to see if you own it. If the code check fails, the game won't load. Even if you own the game, if you don't have Internet access to check the data base, it will not load.

As broadband providers move towards tiered data caps, online downloads will become a problem. Add it is, blue ray discs run around 50gb of data. Imagine downloading this to your console in terms of bandwidth, time, and hard drive space. Sounds like a nightmare to me.

I actually still have a launch ps3, though I did have to send it in last year because the console bricked installing a firmware update. And they charged me 130 dollars for that. Outrageous if you ask me. They bricked my console, and I had to pay.

Wait, it gets better. I had a first gen 360 as well and got the red ring in the 2 year I owned it. That they fixed for free and sent it back. I got a second one a year and a half later and they made me pay 100 dollars for that one! I don't think I've ever been so rude and angry at customer service before. I was on the phone with them for almost 2 hours before I eventually gave up.

Red ring of death. It was just a heat sync issue. Really cheap fix for them. I've always had Xbox since it came out. I don't really see a point in switching other than membership fees and lack of a blu ray.. which they speculate is coming with the "720".

I will probably be shipping the new xbox and/or playstation in protest over their attempt at squash the used gaming industry. One of my best friends own a game store and this will might put him or of business. It hurts the whole industry because game prices will probably go up.

I don't think it will hurt sales as long as the price is right. The ps3 originally had complete backwards compatibility with ps1 and ps2 games but because the price was so high, it sold terribly.

The no backwards compatibility is not because of they can't do it, but because it's adds expense and because it doesn't support their agenda for crushing the used game industry.

Sony HAS stated you can play used games on the PS4. Backwards compatibility hasn't been fully detailed but you will be able to stream/download PS3 games on the PS4, no word-that I saw-stating you can play physical PS3 discs in the PS4. I would think that at some point in the future all movies and games will streamed or downloaded and stored with no physical discs.

Just found this:

http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/21/sony-psn-games-wont-transfer-to-ps4/

It's the morning after the night before, and Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed to us that current-generation PSN titles won't transfer across to the PlayStation 4. The company admitted last night that PS3 games wouldn't be compatible with the latest console, but has added that it will try to make titles playable "in some form." Because the architecture of the Power-PC-based PS3 and x86-based PlayStation 4 are so different, Sony will only bring across games that don't guzzle the latest console's power in emulation. The executive also said that the company aims to offer server-side and cloud services to offer a wider library of older games, but said that's one for the "longer term."

If that is true, then I might give it a look. I won't be buying at launch to allow people to find out first if this is true, or if they're lying through their teeth.

So from what I just read on Engadget....you'll be able to play used PS4 games on it. The architecture of the new system might not be able to do the PS3 games(definitely PSN, not clear about discs) and they would have to make it playable another way?

The backwards compatibility issue isn't as large as the used games issue is. Most games I bought used because 60 dollars plus tax is just too much to spend as often as I'd like. Except for a select few, I would often wait to purchase a game. Now we just have to wait and see if this is true and if Microsoft is going to follow or be the difficult one.

I hear ya. I rarely pay full price for a game.

I hope the WiiU is Nintendo last console. I would love to play Zelda and Metroid on a Playstation or Xbox.

If I do its for call of duty. The rest I wait for. Even resident evil. And I love those games except for operation raccoon city. That was downright awful.

I use to for COD as well, but I didn't really like MW3, so I still haven't bought BO2. Been playing Halo 4 mostly at this point.

Copacetic, maybe everyone else was too stunned to reply, but you are my hero. The decision tree was surely agonizing. I had a similar decision with early prostate cancer, and opted to yank it for peace of mind, rather than play around with treatments that did not assure a high degree of success. Obvious trade-offs. I was younger than 95% of victims. But having two youngsters made the decision for me. You are awesome.

And guys, get your privates checked. Early detection saves lives. Not EarlyMon, early. That's a picture that will stay with you now.:p

I didn't see his post. I apologize for that. I've had prostate problems since I was 19 years old. Apparently too much mountain dew gives you a kidney infection which could damage your prostate.

I agree getting screened is very important. Very uncomfortable but important none the less. And a little tip guys.. Look for a female Dr. Its not a sexual thing.. Its a comfort thing. Their hands are smaller.

Good Morning all! Ryan, great link to a great approval. I have to agree with you on the surgeon choice, it is critical to a good outcome that the surgeon specializes in breast reconstruction for women post cancer. I myself have been there. I had a double mastectomy almost 7 years ago. I went to a breast surgeon who specialized in breast removal and a plastic surgeon who specialized in re-construction of breasts post cancer. The results have been fantastic! Since the reconstruction, we moved and I switched to Duke University Medical Center. Even the specialists there have all commented on what a great reconstruction I had done and wanted to know who did it. I had silicone implants from Inamed (allergen) and have had none of the potential issues. More important though than the reconstruction is Early Detection. Please Ladies, do not miss your Mammograms! And for you gents out there, make sure the woman in your life get Mammograms as recommended. My cancer was detected early and even thought the current treatment for breast cancer is breast conservation (lumpectomy and radiation), My husband and I opted for the double mastectomy in part because I was only 43. While having cancer is always scary, with the right surgeons, reconstruction was a breeze and made the whole experience an adventure.

Copa, Thanks for sharing, and urging the early detection. For my Sister with early stage breast and a partial recon, and my brother with prostate....early detection will keep them with us for many years to come.
I applaud you for the trials, and the more than positive outlook on what was a stressful, and I am sure, not easy decision. We are thankful you are still here to "play" with us!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
