Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Sounds like what Apple did with siri when it came out. It could be that older devices might not have something hardware wise for everything to work properly, so it loses out on the whole thing.

I think it is part of one of the chips to be listening all the time for "OK Google" that is in the N5 but not the other Nexi. Seems like a shortcut to remove all of it instead of just the listening part.:dontknow:

That would be my guess considering the transparent nav bar can be related using nova or aokp.

It's exactly that - always on voice listening for Google Now in a way they can support easily without it being a power hog.

Built in to Snapdragon 800 and separate cores added for the similar function on the Moto X.

Note that the N5 launcher has GNow baked in, it's not a widget pointing to a separate app. (I think I said that right. :p)

I've read of various root ports for the other Nexi, don't know how well it really works compared to an N5.

I recall The Chief running some app to do what the Moto X did and I think I remember that he said it was a power hog. If I remembered that right, there you go. :p

I personally think it's as much a marketing choice as an engineering one to not make it widely available and turn off Snapdragon 800 features when there isn't one.

But I could be wrong on that.

It certainly draws a line to differentiate the Google Nexus 5 from the Moto X imo.

The funny thing is I've been wondering why I couldn't get Google Now (the app) to not respond when I said google for some time. I just figured out the other day I had to say "OK Google."

When did they change that?

Open Mic+ was the app supposed to be similar to the Moto X one. I've tried it but haven't used it in a while.
The Kit Kat port to my Gnex and Gnow with voice actions has worked quite flawlessly. It's a buggy ROM, but those features work well. :)

Yes, Open Mic+ was the app. Runs great as long as you DON'T run it in standby! THAT'S the battery hog. But if the screen's on (charging or whatever), knock yourself out :)

Hi Steven!

Welp, the Darling Bride ordered her customized Moto X today, we'll send the son her S3 in exchange for his Gnex... on which I'll install KitKat and sell it. Sounds like a plan! :D

Have a great night!
