Galaxy S2 2.3.4 - Who's got it?

The Galaxy SII looks as though it will be receiving an update to Android 2.3.4. and will bring Google Talk video ( via its rear camera ) and also improved power management which should make for better battery lifetime. At the same time a number of bugs and fixes will be introduced.

lol

I am really liking 2.3.4 Lite'ning rom, much smoother and battery defo seems to last longer since the update, only problem Ive found so far is that Guns n Glory seems to crash out every now and again but from what Ive read this is due to the games compatibility. Oh and Mail would'nt work at first but a simple erase of mail data and re input of credentials sorted that.

Hi guys...

I purchased my GS2 unbranded and sim-free.
I have been able to update the firmware through KIES immediately each and every time an update has been released (don't have to wait for it to be modified and released by my provider).
I am currently on 2.3.3.

If I flashed to 2.3.4 using Odin it would be great to have a better Wi-Fi signal, battery life and percentage battery meter but....

a) If I brick my phone during the update is there any way to recover it?

b) I would obviously back up everything first but would I lose any data/apps/homepage shortcuts or anything else during the update which would need reinstalling afterwards?
Indeed will it leave everything as was?

c) I have read about rooting to remove/freeze provider's commercial apps etc.
As you know my phone is an unbranded, sim-free model so I have no provider's commercial apps on it. Will flashing to the leaked 2.3.4 put any of this rubbish on to my phone (I hate this)?

d) Would I be able to update normally using KIES when 2.3.4 is officially released or will KIES believe I have a released version and not offer me the "update"?

e) Is the officially released 2.3.4 likely to be different to the leaked version?

f) I remember on the GS1 that you could get to a hard reset menu by pressing a combination of buttons at the same time. Some GS1's did not respond to this and mine was one of them. Am I likely to have the same issue with my GS2 getting into Download mode?

g) Does the delayed camera shutter really annoy (you)?

h) Are there any other things you think I ought to know about and if you were me running 2.3.3 on an unbranded, sim-free phone would you flash to 2.3.4?

Many thanks to those of you who give your time to help me :)

Ive just upgraded to 2.3.4 but am having a problem finding some of the Apps I regular use on Android Market. I understand Google has a confirmation process for new Android versions / ROMs, it could take some time until a device which was updated gets full Market access. Anyone any idea how long this might take?

I know I can get these Apps from Androidpit but I have already paid for them once and dont particularly want to pay twice.

I had the same issue. Specificially, Touchdowns lisence key. Cant be found in the market. I had to puchase it again directly from vendor and use the numerical unlock key.

Has anyone noticed the screen coming on randomly with this firmware? last few days i've noticed it quite allot.

i just updated to 2.3.4 (KG2, frankenstein version) i got the say, i feel the phone feels noticeably faster.. cant comment on battery life, coz i just installed it. its at 100%, with all my sync stuff and gps/mobile data running all the time, lets see wat i got in 12 hours!

but i did read somewhere, i think on this very thread, that the lock screen lag is gone on 2.3.4. unfortunately im a bit disappointed to see that its pretty much the same. maybe its reduced from 2 seconds to 1-1.5 seconds. but its still a lag. i was pretty excited to think that i was gonna get rid of that. all u guys running KG2, is the lag still there?

oh and google talk video is nice! lol

it was serious. im not sure when the official is being released on Kies, but an official version was released on the XDA thread (intratech) which can be flashed via Odin

google chat with video will make it fun....love using it with my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to chat with my kids when I'm away from home...

the 'odin' thing is beyond me....my skills are very basic.... thanks anyway!

yes, im loving it too. i like to think my skills are a bit beyond basic :D but its super simple to do. im very new to android too, but i was able to flash (and root, although u dont have to do the rooting part) without any problem. here is the famous thread

Installed 2.3.4. This is the first time ive flashed the phone, a fairly straightforward process (except I had to reinstall all my apps - my fault probably).

This is the first time ive run unofficial firmware and ive noticed its draining the battery in a way I havent had before. Ive checked with Task Manager and there's nothing running (and gps, wifi, data connection etc are off) yet the battery goes down slowly overnight. It's not a massive battery drain, but it is losing power in a way which didnt happen with previous firmwares. Can someone tell me what's happening here.

i hear amazing things about the battery :D however my first impressions arent great at all. but im waiting til tmr to give it a normal usage test. coz today well, after upgrading and rooting, it was pretty much on all morning, with all bells n whistles n lasted barely 6 hours.
but i did note that much android OS usage was drastically lower: its usually 45% or more. today its been less than 20. looking good.

So has the 2.3.4 update released officially? I read on the net that S2 is being officially launched in US in Aug with the 2.3.4. Maybe the official update for the rest will come at the same time.

the official firmware KG2 can be flashed via odin, currently.. its running 2.3.4. intratech @XDA always posts the original firmware so im pretty sure its official ;)

Quick question, after upgrading to 2.3.4. I would like to root my phone, because I am on a new version of gingerbread does this narrow down my options for rom etc??? Hope someone can help me out on this, my galaxy s2 thanks you!
