Help Galaxy S2 Low on space & not enough storage error (SOLVED)

l had a similar problem. I installed a utility called disk usage from Play. This showed (using the App storage opttion) that I had just under 1 gig of Applications, 800MB or so of "system data" and about 200MB of free space.
Reading threads in other forums indicated that this was probably due to something called 'alog' files. It seems that they are protected and the only way to delete them directly is to root your phone.

I didn't want to do that, so I did a factory reset (I'd been intending to do so for a while as I had been getting random crashes and I thought a rebuild might help). Anyway, after the reset the system data & tree space had radically changed. I now have 900MB of free space and 100MB of system data.

I have no idea if the 9900 code described above would have done the trick, but it sounds likely.

I joined just to say THANK-YOU, your tech tip just saved a mates Galaxy S2.
It freed up 1.2 GB from system memory and stopped the phone from bricking itself.
Two Thumbs Up.

I like very much the simplicity of the solution!...

Just that when I try I get the message: USSD code running... and then the error: Connection problem or invalid MMI code! :(

While none of the above solutions worked for me (Didn't want to do a a wipe/fresh install again), it did help me find a solution.

If you have root, get a file manager that will allow root access, (I used the one that comes with Cyanogenmod aptly named "File Manager").

Browse to /data/log and delete everything in there, not the folder itself, just all the contents. I had over 750 logs in there, all exactly 1mb.

Now I've got 1.2gb free, yay!

Thanks to everyone, I never would have found that or known it was safe to delete without some of the info provided in this thread. I also just created an account to share and say thanks.

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!
How can I solve this issue? I've tried everything. I've deleted all of my apps and data and everything. This is sooo annoying.

I'm having the same problem! I tried *#9900#, the menu opens up fine BUT there in NO "Delete dumpstate/logcat". Could it be because I've removed my MicroSD? Please help.

How you people are calling this code? If you dial this code with sim card inside, it simply says wrong code. If you dial without sim card, it doesn't dial. My device is rooted. Thanks

Just open the phone dialer and key in the code exactly as set out. You should then see the menu. You don't need to press the dial button - at least that's the way it works on my S2 and also on my Note 10.1. Mine are not rooted, though.

If you're rooted, you can just delete the files - there is a utility mentioned above that will help.

Thanks for your reply but when I put the code nothing happens. I want to know why I shouldn't get something when others are getting?

It could be due to your handset running a carrier-specific firmware which doesn't support that particular MMI code.

Thanks Slug for your reply. I am having international version. It is unlocked and at present I have installed miui official ROM.

Thank you guys , I too just signed in this forum to say thank you. By the way I have experienced an issue which is repeatedly discussed here after magnificent solution proposed "*#9900#".
Anyhow i have installed Go Dial-er since ages and when i tried to use this solution through go dial-er nothing happened but when i did it through default dailer of Galaxy S2 the solution rocked.
Thanks again

A simple way to free up storage space is by deleting all the log files in the device memory. Just dial *#9900# on your phone and select option 2 “Delete dumpstate/logcat” in the prompted menu. It's not necessary to root your phone either. I restored 1.4 gig of space after doing this.
Thanks stu40!
i had the same problem and this code saved me +900 MB and now i can use my phone! :)

Why is it my phone is saying can't copy to sd card not enough memory?I have 16gb phone.
Some apps are on the phone whilst others are stored on the sd card (internal memory)

Just joined this forum to say a massive thank you as this code *#9900# totally fixed my phone! Also as an added bonus my phone appears to be charging at lightning speed now too! YAY
