Morning all. Dreams of weather last night
I have started to become limited with my tablets. Storm season is here and while my Note 2 does a pretty good job, it is awkward to be switching between the radar / twitter / maps which are my three main tools. Then adding phone calls to the mix, yeah, it can be done. But sometimes a supplemental would be handy. Even while I am at work, I get the larger screen which is useful for radar as well as higher resolution.
There have been times I have taken my nexus 7 to work with me only for it to sit around all day because it is wifi only. Yeah, there is a wifi spot at work but I need to sign in every time the connection breaks and often I am greeted to a bug report mailer at the end of the day.
I could just turn the radios off or set to airplane mode.
But, I am starting to find that wifi only tablets are VERY limiting for me.
This causes a bit of an issue:
There are very few 4g tablets out there and for some reason Verizon gets most of the newer ones first. Well, I am through with Verizon and their very slow 3g service.
Anyway, I am kind of stuck.
I need: GPS, At least HSPA+ (AT&T) 7-8" pocketable decent resolution tablet. This leaves a few options:
Nexus 7 HSPA+ but mine is becoming sluggish again. And I already have one.
iPad mini but the cost is steep and operating the thing is completely backwards, but may be able to learn it.
it may be nice to pull images from camera for quick tweaks and uploads, which, sadly iOS has that built in. The nexus 7 requires some hacking. AT&T has a 10" galaxy tab, which is out dated, and I got a note 10.1, the card reader will work on that.
once again, I am the odd man out for what I want to do.
New tablets are sure to hit the market soon, but as I said, storm season is here now...
