Root GB OTA has started if you are rooted stock please read this

I did flash the ROM from Scotty's post earlier and then removed it from the sdcard. It was then the phone factory reset itself. I could copy the ROM back over and try it again. I would then just wait for the update and flash SU and CWM after receiving the OTA? I guess I am not even sure how to flash SU and CWM.

Total newb!

You are making it more complicated than it needs to be. I would very highly advise against messing with your bootloadet unnecessarily. It's risky, and offers no advantage.

Flash the rom as yeahha suggested.

Or

Flash the stock recovery as I suggested.

"if im reading this correctly,it looks like you downloaded and installed a stock recovery. you can verify this by powering off, then on into hboot. select recovery with power and the volume rocker. tell him if it goes to clockwork,or to a different screen with a triangle and !.

if you get the ! ,then pull the battery and leave it out for a few minutes. boot the phone normally, set it up and give it an hour or so to settle. if you get pestered for the OTA tell it to install later, and let the phone fully charge."

From Scotty's post above. It does go directly to ! triangle if I select recovery. So should I just let it sit as he suggests until the OTA shows up again.

The phone appears to be factory reset and I had to let the backup assistant run and restore my Google account.

Yes you have the stock recovery on there, once you get the update again it should install. I would reboot as he suggested. I am not sure why you got factory reset based on what you have told us. Once you get the update we can help you get back to a rooted condition.

Thanks so much guys! I can force the update now if you advise it. The phone is charged and everything has sync'ed.

Ugh. It still failed a 1/4 way through the install of the OTA. I guess I will reinstall the ROM Scotty's or Yeahha?

Ok I moved Scotty's ROM back to SD and booted to recovery. It asked right away to push up to begin recovery, which I did. I then says press power to reboot. Which I just did.

Now to just let it sit for awhile?

what i linked above is not a rom,its your factory recovery wich is needed if you want to accept OTAs.

i hate to say it,but you may have missed your window with the OTA. when a large scale update is pushed out,it goes in waves. if someting happens, then you may have to wait until everyone has gotten their OTA before your phone will redownload it.

wiping the caches when your phone was stuck and looping cleared the previous download from its memory(thats why it stops the looping).

what you do now is up to you.

1)you can wait for the real OTA,wich may be a few hours to a couple weeks.

2)if youre anxious to be on rooted gingerbread with working voicemail notifications,it would be quickest and easiest to go ahead and flash the rom as yeahha suggested. since youve allready factory re-set it and wiped your data, waiting for the real OTA doesnt offer any advantage at this point. the recovery-flashable rooted rom that yeahha is suggesting is EXACTLY the same as the OTA,but with a couple tings that make it better.

if you want to do this then youll need to reinstall clockwork thru hboot(like you just did the stock recovery). then remove the PG05IMG,and place the rooted rom on your sd card. you will then boot to recovery and flash it. when its done, boot it back up and it will be just like a fresh factory reset of 2.11.605.5 :)

Thanks for all the help. I'll follow Scotty's instructions in the morning. You guys have been really great. I've learned a lot today!

I may go for the unroot since I am going to eBay this thing as soon as I preorder the Nexus in a couple of weeks.

Unroot is more difficult than what we have been suggesting so far, if you have any issues in the morning feel free to bring them up.

if you have rooted with revolutionary, you have the unique option to simply recieve the ota, after replaceing your recovery with the stock one. the revolutionary hboot will not disapear after the update, and it will allow you to easily reroot.

biggest advantage of doing this is that it will not wipe your data or require you to re-setup your phone.

check your firmware in settings/about phone.

if you have 1.70.605.0,then use this recovery:
MR2: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3320797390e3d746a67fda915854b16

if you have 2.11.605.3 then use this recovery:
GB 2.11.605.3: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3f6155023f3c928d0cd229516a441e1

download, rename PG05IMG and flash in hboot,as you would a radio or any other recovery.

*MAKE SURE to double check your MD5 sums to verify the integrity

*MAKE SURE you are on one of those 2 firmwares. if youre on something else,i cannot gaurantee that mixing the recovery with a different firmware is acceptable and will not cause issue.

Thanks for the info.
So, do I wait until I receive the OTA and then do the above? Or do i flash the recovery before I get the OTA?
I used revolutionary and am 2.11.605.3

If you want to get the OTA and not flash the rom go ahead and flash the second link scotty put up in hboot, then when you get the OTA it should work fine and you will just need to flash a new recovery and superuser to become rooted again

I'll give the rom a try tomorrow. I just read up on some of the terminology. Haven't flashed a rom before, so I'll be trying it for the first time tomorrow! :)

Okay, the rom is pretty much explained in the OP how to go ahead and flash it. I don't think the update is warning users before it is installing and I think it is being pushed so you may end up getting the update before tomorrow or you may not

No, you should do a battery pull and try to reboot, if you stick on the splash screen again then you should boot back into recovery wipe again and reflash

Ok. I'll give it another go tomorrow. I've gotta sleep so for now I'm just restoring my backup.
Thanks for all the help!

Sorry for the newb questions in advanced. I just rooted my phone with revolutionary on Friday.

I downloaded the recovery that scotty linked above. I have the 1.70.605.0 stock software and was wondering how I flash in in hboot. Do I use rom manager and flash an alternative recovery after placing this on the root directory?

Thank you in advance.

No you would rename the recovery PG05IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card. That is a zero not an O ;)

Now power off the phone and power back on holding volume down and follow the directions to update and reboot to replace the recovery
