Gemini Calendar - my vision of calendar software

Powell,
Great Calendar, ready for the but...
I have an att captivate. When I set an alarm, it does not shut off. It rings every 30 sec.

I just downloaded the latest update. One thing I didn't notice before, on day view, what does that icon do, with the eye and the refresh icons?

OK, I got it to shut off, but I had to activate the built in calendar. Now the sound I selected plays for a sec or so, then I get what sounds like bubble popping. I think it is a built in sound for the att calendar. There is no place to change it, and it is not the default notifier.

I love being able to use the widgets for different calendars but was wondering if there would be an option eventually to choose which calendar I want to add my event to rather than having to uncheck all the others first unless it is the default calendar.

I've got an AT&T Samsung Captivate with Android version 2.1-update1, and Gemini Calendar is working fine for me. It seems like you've got two calendars trying to notify you at once; here's what I did to fix the problem.

To keep debugging simple, make sure you don't have any calendar notification programs running. I use Calendar Notifier myself; there are several such "nag" programs, and you can install one later, but for now let's disable them.

We want to shut off notifications from the default calendar. Unfortunately, there's no preference setting for this on the Captivate. The best we can do is ignore all the calendars. Open the stock calendar program; press your menu button and choose "Settings"; tap "Calendars"; uncheck every calendar listed.

I'm not comfortable with Gemini's notification handling, so I let the system handle it, instead. in Gemini Calendar, go to menu / More / Preferences / Reminders & Notifications. Set the "Reminder tone" to something different from your system tone, so you can tell when GC is trying to handle alarms. Then, set the "Notification mode" to "Off".

Whenever an alarm goes off, you should now hear the system notification tone, only one time. To change that, use the menu key on your home screen and choose Settings / Sound and display / Notification ringtone.

Once I had everything working, I installed Calendar Notifier for nagging. It commandeers the system notifications, and won't shut up until you acknowledge the notice.

Hope this helps!

What I miss in the month view is an overview of a week that spans months. In other words, the days of the previous/next month (which are grayed out), should also have an indication of events happening that day. This feature is present in irt calendar and calendar pad.

Thank you for providing gemini calendar!

I am using a Samsung Captivate with Android 2.1 and have quickly become a user and fan of your application!

A significant majority of my meetings utilize AT&T Teleconferencing services and the ability to add a Phone Number as a link to the Location field of an event is exactly what I have been looking for. It seems to work smoothly for a standard 10 digit number. However, I observed that a couple of special characters are not supported.

These conf calls are accessed by dialing a toll free number, wait for a system prompt and dial a passcode which is unique to the host of that particular call. I have setup entries in my contact list using the w or ; symbol (wait) and the p or , symbol (pause) to add a delay in between the main number and passcode.

This is stored as 888-xxx-xxxx;xxxxxxx# in some of my contacts and they work as expected.

When adding this number in the location field in GeminiCalendar, the numeric digits are underlined and act as a hot link, but the ; is not. I would like to be able to include ; or , (and # or *) in phone numbers that are stored in the location field and passed to the phone application when selected.

Here is some more about how special characters are used in phone numbers on Android.
How To Add Hard (Wait) And Soft (2-3 Sec) Pauses To Your Android Contacts | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Mods, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police

To go a step further, my wish would be to have the ability to add a link to an existing contact in my phone book in the Location field rather than typing the number in manually for each and every call. I can currently create a Direct Dial shortcut on my Home screen that points to a specific number stored in my Contact list and allows a single click to send the number to the phone application and dial the call. I would like to be able to add the same type of shortcut in the Location field of an event.

I envision this working something like this:
When entering/editing the location for an event, have a button to open a dialog where I can select from a specific number for one of the Contacts stored on my phone which would then be stored in the Location field. My preference would be to display the name of the contact in the location field but have it act as a Phone Number link. If that would be too difficult, simply storing and displaying the full number as a link would be ok too.

Thanks again for a great product!

I'm having the problem with double notifications for reminders on my HTC Desire. I read people recommend to disable the stock calendar's notifications, however I don't find this option. Would anybody mind to tell me where it hides?

Thanks & Cheers, Tobias

Tobias, go into your default calendar app and click on "more" then "settings". You should see a label that says "reminder settings" and then "set alerts & notifications". You can select "off" from there. At least that is how it is on my Droid. Hopefully your phone is very similar.

Hello Everybody!
Gemini Calendar is calendar application for Android. It is designed to be easy to use, I will gladly hear your opinion about it.
You can download the app from the Market (search Gemini Calendar)

Here are some screens from the program:

First, small introduction, why I wrote a calendar software.
I know, that there are plenty of calendar widget for Android. There are nice looking plugins for the home screen, that show the basic information about your agenda, meeting etc.
But everything I have tried, was rather static and concentrated on month view or agenda view separately. In such programs you usually see the month view with days marked with stars/triangles/dots/whatever, to see what that marked day contains, you must change view, open new window etc. For me it is not comfortable.
I remember a simple calendar application on my Nokia, where you could just point a day on the month view and you can see (instantly) what is going on that day. O.k., maybe there are such programs for Android too, but I could not find it. Besides, I just thought that my vision will be better :P
I have also some other ideas, that would make my life better, if they were implemented in the calendar. Lets hope my ideas will meet requirements of others, too.
If you are kind enough to try my software, please, pay attention to the system of date/time entering during a new event creation. I am REALLY curious, if you like such a way of data input

(Hint: when in new event window, touch the date field, it will be marked and the special touch field will appear - see the second screen above. you can change the values of the field by moving your finger along that field)

I will really appreciate if you write your opinion about my software. I am planning to work hard to make it better, I have many ideas for the new features and I need some feedback from the users.

Main features of the Gemini Calendar:

  • easy data entering with innovative data input method,
  • comfortable month view with easy, instant access to the events,
  • events recurrence with intervals of x days/weeks/months/years,
  • configurable data and time format, first day of week,
  • active links in event details (WWW address, phone numbers, emails and map),
  • multiple reminders (up to 8) can be added to the single event,
  • recurrent events can be set according to the days of week (separately selectable Mo, Tu, We etc.),
  • new event can be added with relation to the call log of your phone,
  • new event can be added with relation to the phone book of your phone,
  • 'go to date' dialog in the Month and Day View lets you easily switch the current date to another with the same input method as in Add New Event View,
  • three different shortcuts for the launcher:
    • Add normal event,
    • Add event from log,
    • Add event from book,
  • day widget,
  • copy & paste events,

Tips and tricks - how to use Gemini Calendar

I recommend you to read Tips & Tricks, where I explained some of the Gemini Calendar functions.

Things that are still missing, but are planned:

  • more widgets,
  • week view,
  • agenda view,
  • changes related to ergonomics, to make the calendar even more easy to use,

This might be a stupid question, but can I turn off sync for the native android calendar, or is that how gemini syncs??

Hello,
I downloaded your calendar a few days ago and like it a lot so far. Especially the widget that shows the date with the nice gemini logo (maybe I like it more than others because I'm a gemini myself, lol) and the first three upcoming events.it just looks good and works perfectly.
The method with the sliders for the data input works very well for me.
One thing confuses me: when I look at the one day screen, and I stroke the screen from right to left, then the next day slides into the screen from the right. This is the way it should be (and I really like this :) ). But when I stroke the screen back, from left to right, then the previous day also slides in from the right, but it should be coming from the left.
I would also love to be able to choose some colours instead of the grey/black background.
Please keep up the good work, I really think this was the calendar I was looking for. Thank you.

Hi, I am new to Droid and this forum. I just downloaded your app based on what I have read. I've been looking for but unable to find a calendar that will sync/show my past appointments/events on Google calendar. It shows recurring all day events like a birthday, but I need to see, like that I was at this doctor in Oct 2007 etc. Can Gemini do that?

I just wanted to mention how wonderful it is to be able to paste a URL into a new event to read at a specific time, this is a great great feature and AFAIK only Gemini is addressing these sorts of limitations in the stock calendar. Everything else currently out there is only dealing with display issues and not actual functionality.

That said, I am not loving the current widgets (sorry). I would like to see a 4x4 or 4x3 sized monthly view calendar widget that also has a link to create a new event. When clicking any day it would take you to the day view within Gemini. That would get me off using any other widgets.

I occasionally work a pair of nights shifts from 22.00 -06.30. Previously when I entered one (eg starting the 16th) it would show up just on the 16th. Now it also shows up on the 17th but with the start time (22.00)displayed, and then when I enter the one starting on the 17th it shows up on the 18th, making it look as though I have another shift starting that day at 22.00. How can I restrict it to show on one day or have the end time displayed on the second day (which would actually be really good)? It also links the 3 days with the underline which I don't really need - can I stop that? Many thanks

Hello!

I love Gemini Calendar - this is the best soft of this kind, I tried many.

Only one problem: when I add event, I want to see it instantly in the calendar.
But it doesn't appear!

Please help, what to do???!!!

I don't need any synchronizations with gmail etc., I just want to use the calendar on my android phone. I also want to use it when I am in the underground - where no internet and synchronization.

I add event and it does not show in the calendar and also in the calendar widget.
It only shows when I enter/exit the application several times.

I tried to change settings - nothing helps. I really need this feature, please help!!!

*** Default Android calendar does display new eventa at the very moment they are added!!!

Hi Powell

thanks for a great calendar app. hard to believe you spend so much time on this and its a free app. Let me know where I can contribute to the app.

a couple of minor nitpicks
. I have multiple calendars synced (gmail/work/other). However, all of the calendars seems to pull my Name as the calendar name. So they all show up as Firstname Lastname. It is impossible to say which one is which.
The stock calendar does this as well but below the name, it shows the email address so it becomes easier to distinguish. It seems it would make more sense to pull the account name rather than my name to distinguish calendars (or email).

. I wish the icon was more representative of a calendar. This is clearly a personal preference but sometimes it becomes hard to find the calendar app when the icon doesn't reflect the functionality.

. Again, personal preference. I think the stock 'skin' is nice and muted but I'd like something even more simple (ie, no brushed look, rounded edges, shadows etc).

Things i love
. links to phone numbers/email etc. I can't believe the stock calendars are missing this. Seems like it should be basic functionality

. you input mechanism for changing dates/times using the slider. very innovative.

. feature rich.

Thanks again for the great work. I hope my requests you make it to consideration.

hello, i will apologize up front for not reading all the pages to look for this answer to my question... i did try, and got to page three with no success and looked at how many more pages i would have to go to avoid any complaints of my laziness... :O

anyways, i am looking for a specific 'FEATURE"

i think it should be a basic function but i guess it isnt...

when setting up an appointment, i want to be able to select a person from my contacts list...as i probably know them.. and if i dont know them, i will after i meet them and will probably set up an appt with them in the future???

most calendars only allow the selection of names from my contacts list, if they have an email address, as iff it were an invitation they could confirm ????

im not lookin for a confirmation, but just to shortcut typing peoples names that are already there.

along with keeping track of when i met with people in my contacts list... i should be able to click on thier names and see when i met with them in the past...

thanks again for helpin me out, and the program looks great an di hope it has these items...

I am preparing a new version, which I hope will be faster. If you encounter the problems with speed, please, drop me e-mail at bugs (@) gemini-mobile. (com),

As usual, let me know, what you think about Gemini.

I will answer some posts here soon, sorry for delays!

I use the Pure Calendar and Agenda widgets, I am just wondering if you have contacted that developer about getting Gemini more support from his apps? I really wish clicking on an event in Pure would open in Gemini.

+1

Next version of Gemini will cooperate with Agenda Widget and some other widgets. Also, it will be possible to send data from third party applications to Gemini (and make an event out of this data).

Other new features are coming too. Be patient :)

One suggestion/request, if I may.

The calendar selection used to be separated by login id (ie: login 1= all calendars listed at top, login 2= all calendars listen UNDER login 1's calendars). However, they are all jumbled now and I have a hard time choosing the correct calendars to select.

I suggest either grouping calendars by login id and making it clear what login they are associated with or adding the login id to the end of each calendar (or in smaller letters under each name).
