Root General discussion on All Things Root

I'm sure all members here have noticed that a lot of threads start out on the OP's topic and end totally off in another direction.

This is for discussion of all things that we as rooted members need to talk about, without causing an accidental derailment of an OP's thread(I'm been known to mess up and accidentally derail a thread myself). Maybe instead of going off topic in a thread we can just jump in here, and discuss things on our minds about anything having to do with being rooted.

I'm probably the worst at staying on topic. Now maybe I can just ask which ever member I'm tempted to ask an off topic question of, to just jump in here.
Might work?

Dooh, ninja botherswing strikes again.
Hey brotherswing, when using your phone to edit a post does it seem like the edit box is a bit crazy. I don't know if this is a rooted problem, a ROM problem, or a problem with the site.

Thanks. I had to download a sluggish browser called Point Browser just to deal with editing my posts.
I guess I'm stuck having to use it to edit posts.

Well, you could use the Phandroid app for that. If you already need a separate app just for editing your posts it may as well be an elegant solution that also gives you a heads up when you get a PM. The biggest shortcoming of the app is composing big posts like tutorials and such. Andy, with your copy and paste fu, you might get this app to really rock! Either it wouldn't work at all, or it would be great. I doubt there's any grey area here.

I have a question. I was reading the other thread about formatting SD cards. I'm expecting a new class 4, 8 gig to be delivered (7 bucks on Newegg). I'll have to go back and read that thread for instructions again, but, the question I had, I believe BACKside uses ext 3 or 4 ( can't remember which). IF I make a partition with one of those and put Link2SD on it, then one day try another ROM that uses a different ext, I have to repartition to use Link2SD again?

It isn't the Rom, it is the kernel. But, yes, you would need to repartition the card if the new kernel didn't read ext partitions.

Is the hardware voice dial button not supposed to work on BS? I never use it anyway, but just happened to try it, the app works though.

I'll give it a try. Thank's.

Aaaaall riiiiight! I like it. I can edit now and everything is super stable. No more frustrating, unpredictable, crazy moving around, can't get the cursor where you want it on the first 5 try's,edit box in the browser. I really, really appreciate the great info.

I hate it loses my spot every time I leave the app. Other than that it's great.

As for link2sd I personally format on every update because my phone always starts getting sluggish then pop there's the update so it's nice to start fresh. As for roms froyo it's fat32 while gb should except anything but the recovery will usually format ext3 or ext4. Ics is still a sight unseen. Harmonia however has been updated to accept ext3 in order to switch to gb with ease because she was created an iho Rom but I'm not sure if she is still persuing that route.

Edit: repartition though you shouldn't have to just wipe the partition and your good to go. Don't wipe the sd card just the partition.

benslgdroid is right. The app won't take the place of Dolphin HD. I can now edit posts that I use to have to do on a PC, if I could even borrow the use of one when needed.
It is now, for sure and for certain, my choice for editing posts and responding to a long series of pm's.

Thanks again, brotherswing
