Getting a Note | ICS thoughts

OK I hate art they are bastards they disable the nfc chip don't offer unlimited data why do they offer these phones if you can't use them to their fullest

Money hungry carriers like AT&T don't care about their customers. They fill their phones with non removable bloatware, and try to limit things as much as they possibly can. They do it, because they can get away with it. The entire mobile system in the US is completely screwed up. We get many devices, and updates much later than most countries since it has to go through the carrier first.

That's one reason I would much rather import an international device, or buy an unlocked Nexus device. I refuse to let the carrier have any control over my devices. If a carrier tries to pull something on me, all I need to do is switch to another GSM carrier.

I was going to buy the international one but I was told it wouldn't be updated to ics? The guy at Samsung said that also so how do you go about updating the phone? Well without root?

I just returned mine which im sad about i want unlimited data i want to be able to use more than 3gbs like $50 for 5gigs? really thats not right at all and why do we have to root our devices to get the full affect of it? I have my nexus right now running stock unlocked bootloader but the Notes screen was 100 times better than this.

I just barely noticed this. The international Note will get ICS, and it's expected to be updated by the end of Q1. (The end of this month.) The AT&T Note should be around the same time, but that's definitely not guaranteed though. Since it's got to go through AT&T's BS process, and filling it up with bloatware. I'm guessing the AT&T branded Note probably won't get the update until April or May at the earliest. (The international unlocked version will definitely be updated before the AT&T version.)

Why was I told from the Samsung rep that unlocked phones used in this country wont be getting the update? Unless we have to do it manually? I would buy the international one back today if thats the case. I wish att would just offer 4gbs like verizon is doing. Like really your on a unlimited plan for lte and they will start throttling your data when you hit 5gbs I would say thats still bs and how is that unlimited? What is the definition of unlimited?? Is anyone using the unlocked on tmobile? I wouldnt mind testing out their network.

Overall I really really really miss ICS...

Getting so tired of new phones releasing with year old software! This is why Apple and the iPhone are so appealing to so many long term Android users...Because these sort of issues don't exist with Apple, so many of us are tired of waiting and waiting for Software updates. IMO its just basically ridiculous that the Note didn't release with ICS.

Google and Android better prey that Apple doesn't drop a bomb on the world and release a new iPhone with LTE, an HD bezel-less 4.3 inch screen and an industry changing camera. Because if they do, alot, and I mean alot of Android users that are tired of this old software nonsense will jump ship...Including me!

With the 2 Notes, the AT&T and international one, when talking updates would both version pretty much get the same updates (i.e. Ice Cream Sandwich)? Is there any reason one would get an update and the other wouldn't? Just sometimes reading stuff on the internet about the Note it's hard to tell if they are talking International, AT&T or either one.

I don't know much about ICS....will it now add a home/return/whatever buttons to the actual touchscreen now in addition to the capacitive buttons already there? That will seem like a waste of screen space if that's how it works. I'd rather be able to turn into off an just use the buttons already on the Note.

they gotta do AT LEAST 4.5"........anything less just doesn't seem worth waiting for, IMO.

nah they'll probably just use the existing capacitive buttons.

The unbranded one is like MFG device. Samsung puts the update together, makes it flashy with TouchWiz and let's it lose on unbranded phones.

Because of the contracts with carriers, branded devices have to go from Samsung to Carrier where they add their crap and limitations to it and then let's it lose (the carrier).

Because of the hardware difference between the International and AT&T version, a straight flash will not be possible. It'll have to be ported.

If that does not happen, then wait for the official, wait for someone to root it, then wait for ROM's, either Stock with no bloatware or total custom jobs.

SOMETHING will happen, but not sure when.
