Getting a Note | ICS thoughts

Does anyone know/hear if the ICS 4.0 upgrade will be made for the Note?

I have a Nexus right now that I bought in the UK and brought home to the US with me and I love it. I'm on AT&T and when I saw the Note I was impressed. I do a lot of business; emails, intranet sites, etc. I want the larger screen for more real estate than anything. I hate to lose the 4.0 OS because I think it's just incredible.

So as I said, just curious if there are actually confirmed plans to make a 4.0 OS for the Note and will it essentially have all the functionality that I have with my Nexus? App task killer page, swipe to delete notifications, etc.

Samsung confirmed that it will come to the Note. There is a leaked Chinese ROM that is highly functional that IMO proves this. I remember him using the swipe to delete notifications in the video on AndroidNZ.net, but I don't remember if he showed the app task killer or not.

I'll take a look.

Only because when I went and saw the AT&T version the other day I noticed the buttons on it were not like the Nexus. If I recall, the Nexus uses a software based touch button that orientates based on orientation. It seemed like the buttons on the Note were fixed and I didn't see the traditional app killer button like mine has.

Yeah the Note uses capacitive buttons instead of the screen based buttons. I don't really see them incorporating the software buttons on this device. The multitasking in ICS on the Note will require you holding down the menu button, which will mimic you hitting the software button on the right of your Nexus. That's what it's like on the Chinese ROM so I'm betting they'll stick with that.

AH.

OK, I can live with that.

My biggest excitement was the screen. I came from an iPhone and the one thing that upsets me with Android is that on the iPhone, when I view an email it is shrunk to show the whole email--I have REALLY good eyes so I can read very small print. However, on the Android it doesn't do that and you have to scroll side to side. It won't even let me zoom out to that view.

About the only thing that really upsets me.

Have you looked at the Galaxy Tab 7.7 w/3G? It may also have what you are looking for.

For your eMail needs you may want to try K-9 mail. It shows the entire eMail on one screen. You may have to scroll down but not side to side.
You have a Select All option for deleteing eMails ( much better than deleting them one by one). I'm sure you'll like it.

Actually the email app on the Note lets you pinch to zoom out, which I'm pretty pumped about cause the gmail app doesn't do that.

OH SWEET.

I can't do that on my Nexus.

I just found out my Note is shipped USPS, and just cleared Fort Worth processing at 9:11AM. I think it may be here tomorrow since I'm in Austin, only 3 hours away. USPS Priority Mail (what it was sent) is always 1-day delivery from Austin to Fort Worth. I've sent things so many times on a Friday and they show up the next day.

If this is the case I'm going to fall over laughing!

I'm actually GOING to Forth Worth tomorrow morning at 8am to check out a facility. HAha--maybe the note will be waiting for my beautiful face when I peek in the mailbox slot.

OH HOW I CAN'T WAIT!

Awesome! Congrats dude! I've had mine for just over 24 hours now and I love it. I picked up my Evo a little tonight and it feels like a toy now. It'd be tough to ever go back to a smaller size.

I hear you.

I'm disappointed this source in the UK doesn't make a mesh vent case for the Note. :( He made one for the Nexus that has a neat little metallic badge that says "NEXUS" and the case is thing, sturdy, and awesome.

I think I'm going to go after this case;

Rearth Samsung Galaxy Note SLIM Case

In matte black.

Nice. I got the white one so I'm still unsure which case to get. I might get the black and white one with the kickstand over in the cases thread though.

I ALMOST bought white.

I had a white iPhone4S and loved it.

Then I thought, no I really don't want to draw attention to myself with a gigantic white brick on my head. It wasn't the self image ordeal, but more keeping people from wanting to run off with it LOL.

I will probably regret my choice in a few days -- thank god for returns LOL.

I did order a dash car dock kit thing tho. I'm excited to turn this booger into a GPS. I was about to buy a Garmin for my truck since I didn't get the NAV option. Instead of buying one I can just use good ol'Google Maps to navigate. :)

Screen is the same size as the one Garmin I was going to buy LOL.

Yeah I have a car dock in the mail right now, well two actually, and I'm looking forward to firing up the GPS on that giant gorgeous screen as well.

I just hope it holds its ground.

I had picked up a Nexus in the UK when I was over for business, came back, got it turned on with AT&T (along with a massive crowd because nobody had seen a real Galaxy Nexus). I've loved her ever since.

I will be disappointed if this phone falls apart on me. It really was an impulse buy, I mean who could pass up $150 for a freaking 5.3" Samsung phone LOL.

Rearth makes great cases, while also being an awesome company to work with. Last year they sent several Nexus S users (including myself.) on this forum a free case, for being active in the Android community, and these forums. I hope you enjoy it, if I would've known they had cases available for the Note, I would've bought one already.

I honestly think this is one of the best overall quality phones Samsung has released. I have had a GS, GSII and the GSIISR and my wife has a GNex and they all were great phones, but all had at least one issue. My i717 is flawless after 8 hard ways of use. Very impressive.

Same here. can never go back to a smaller screen. The great thing is its really portable and fits into all my trouser pockets. Its sad that there are so many misleading reviews that claim it wont fit pockets.

I really hate the USPS.

AT&T ships phones from Fort Worth, 3 hours north of me. USPS picks up the package at 2:03pm yesterday, sorts it at 9:00pm yesterday. So, to my surprise the worthless post office doesn't bother sending it down to Austin with the late night truck for delivery today.

I'll be glad when they are completely out of business--most worthless piece of crap.

Note will be here Monday, maybe, if I'm lucky.

don't feel bad i'm on my 4th day waiting so far, usps says it was
accepted at 7:36pm on 2/21 in ft worth tx, then it was processed
though the same fort worth tx facility at 4:30pm on 2/22 that was
tha last scan and neither the usps or at&t have a clue where it is
or when it will be delivered.

i would have gladly paid extra for fedex shipping !!!!!

on the plus side, they will be dropping the $36 activation fee and
giving me a spare battery or something to make up for this
nightmare !

I am Indian mate, but I have lived in Australia and I can see your frustration. The Courier companies in the developed world really have no sense of customer satisfaction. They just assume you will be at home, if you are not they take it back. No phone call nothing. They wont even agree to get it to ur office. In India, they always call before coming. You can arrange a suitable time or even change the address!! Not that hard is it?

I finally said screw it and went to the store; they gave me my upgrade 2 weeks early.

I am now home with a Note at $299.99 versus the $149.99 plus extra line (save in long run).

I'm indifferent right now.

I'm trying to stay positive--but holy brown cow do I miss Ice Cream Sandwich. I forgot how much I hated the old Android system and remember why I ditched my EVO and went back to the iPhone.

It's going to be a grumpy few weeks until ICS 4.0 is released for the Note, when that happens I'll be happy!

Only other thing that bugs me is the bloating of stupid AT&T software. I loved my Nexus was factory and had just want Samsung put on it LOL.

Other then that, big phone, great screen, and it makes me feel superior LMAO. I love the new Calendar app!

OK I hate art they are bastards they disable the nfc chip don't offer unlimited data why do they offer these phones if you can't use them to their fullest
