Root Getting Evo Tomorrow best stripped rom

congrats on your new soon to be evo! you will absolutely love it especially after you root it. i like mikfroyo 4.5. it is pretty stripped down and extremely fast and smooth. have you read the rooting for dummies guide yet? i suggest you read it first before doing anything and any questions you have feel free to ask.

The easiest way to root is the unrevoked method. As far as ROMS go, you should start with the Stock Turbo ROM or Fresh. EVO 4G Android Development - xda-developers
I would recommend Mikfroyo 4.5 or Myn 2.2. Those are two of the most popular sense ROM's.
I have flashed tons of ROMs and never lost my 4G. You don't need to worry about it as long as you have a nandroid backup with working 4G. Both Amon RA and Clockworkmod recoveries backup your wimax keys now...

So basically to root and put a custom rom on you do the following:
1. Download and run Revoke which then roots your phone.
2. Download Clockwork Recovery
3. Download Rom Manger
4. Download the Rom you want and install it via Rom Manger and when it
asks you to make a backup you choose yes
5. That's it your done
Is that pretty much it? That's how I did it on my Htc Incredible.

This is the first rom I tried since I got the EVO last week, really like it. Flashed netarchy's stable kernel for my 004 hardware. oc'ed and running great

I didn't have any luck with unrevoked3
So I used this to root [ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ v2.2 (works with all version)(2/1/11) - xda-developers I ran the ruu for my phone, then ran the script. Worked perfect, it uses Amon_Ra v2.2.1, just fyi

Yep that is basically it. Just make sure you are following the guide to the tee and you should be fine. Good luck!!!
Yeah, those are the basic steps, but:
1) You'll get clockwork as a part of rooting with unrevoked. No need to flash it again. It won't harm anything, but just be aware that you get everything you need from unrevoked - unlocks nand (s-off), roots your current (stock) ROM, gives you a custom recovery (clockwork).
2) ROM manager can be buggy. I recommend you follow the instructions in the rooting for dummies guide for flashing ROMs manually from recovery. Using ROM manager is fine when you're first starting out, but it's not the best option out there. Like others have said, follow instructions, and you'll be fine.

I recommend using MikFroyo 4.5 it is by far one of the best ROMs I have tried, but I have really only tried Myn's and Mik, It is a lot faster than Myn's and will remove almost all of the sprint stuff the only things left is Sprint Hotspot and peep I think. Also the hotspot app is unlocked meaning you can use it without paying Sprint.
