Yeh I haven't decided if I'm going to root it. First I will play around with it, figure out how to use it, then worry about rooting it or not.
- I heard that a new update for the Hero may have fixed the issue with the default SMS app. Is that true?
- I mentioned I plan on putting all my MP3's on a microSD. What format does the partition that holds there MP3's need to be in? Can it just be a FAT32 partition? Will there be any problems playing the media from the card?
2 days and counting....i'm sooooo excited!!!
I have the Sprint version of the Hero. Just got it two days ago (ditching the Palm Pre (I missed Android too much)).
I am a Linux user - not just on my phone, but on my personal computer. You can use Ext3 or FAT or FAT32 or whatever you want and your MP3's should work just fine.
The phone came with Android 1.5. Version 1.6 is not out yet for Sprint. I have heard that it may be within the next week or two, but you know how rumors can be (I hope!).
I'm still debating on whether or not I want to root my phone too. As of now, the phone works great and has plenty of space, so I have no plans for rooting yet.
The battery life on the Sprint Hero is excellent! The first things you should do are as follows:
Let the phone drain the battery down completely until it shuts off. Then do a full (and uninterrupted) recharge - maybe while you sleep. This will train the battery and the phone to work together and will extend the battery life (it's usually good to do this 2 or 3 times with a Lithium battery like this).
Next, install Hansent SMS or Chomp SMS. After you have installed it, go into your contacts and click on someone's name and click the option to send them an SMS. A pop up window will show asking which SMS app to use - default or the one you installed. Select the one you installed and check the box.
These two things will make your battery one of the last things on your mind.
Also, make sure that you go through the setup and run through the keyboard wizard to train it how you type.
