Getting ready to ditch my Hero/Android

Ok, since you are so happy with 1.5 and its outdated apps with no access to current ones, you will be happy staying on 1.5 even when 2.1 is released right?

Why would I stay on 1.5 when 2.1 is released? That's kinda wee-todd-ed. All I'm saying is that I'm not gonna beat myself up to something that wasn't necessarily guaranteed. When it arrives, I'll take full advantage of it but until then it's all about being patient. You are whining to the choir about something that so little phones have. You can always root your phone to get the 2.1 experience.

ok, I'll give my opinion one last time (for this thread at least). Ill try and use some logic

The people that don't care/know about the 2.1 update are the ones that do not browse forums like this. This covers most of the Android users...something that has been stated many times.

The people that DO care about the update are the kind of people that would browse this type of forum.

2.1 is not available to those that do not know about rooting/roms/etc.

2.1 IS available to people who have access to information about rooting/roms/etc.

IF you want 2.1 AND browse this type of forum, it is available to you.

If you do not want it or don't browse forums, it is not available to you.

It seems that you WANT 2.1, are willing to go to the places where you can get it, but CHOOSE not to. Your actions and your wants are not lining up properly... at least in my opinion.

I can assure you there are PLENTY of people not on this forum with a Hero wondering why they cant get access to the newest apps like Google Goggles, maps with navigation and a ton of others we are missing out on. I am sure they will figure out why they cant too if they havent yet.

Sure 2.1 is available if you want to risk bricking your phone and voiding your warranty. I am sorry but my phone is far too important to me to risk that. So that is NOT a realistic option for many of us. Doesnt mean we are any less deserving of an official upgrade as has been promised for about 4 months now...

I have a milestone in Canada and still don't have 2.1 either, whereas droids in the states and milestones in the UK have the update. But do you see me here bitching and complaining like a little girl...NO. Suck it up princess. You were promised NOTHING. A dumbass representitive is NOT qualified to do so, if you believed him that's your own fault. You have only your own stupidity to blame for your problems.

You obviously have access to the internet so why didn't you research the product before making a purchase? Would this not have been the smart thing to do seeing as how other phones were already on 2.01 by the time you got your hero? I know i don't make a single expensive electronics purchase without researching all my possible options and checking what's coming in the following months. This is why I waited a few weeks for the milestone.

I'd also like to say that I played with my buddies Rogers hero today and found a few things I liked MORE on 1.5 then I did on 2.01. Mainly 1.5 still had 5 home screens while 2.01 only has 3. Basically all the upgrade to 2.1 means for you is animated backgrounds...You're willing to give up your phone for that? Seriously? WTF is wrong with you?

Not to mention 2.1 will likely require more memory to run and thus be SLOWER then 1.5 is on your phone, which may cause more of a headache then you want to deal with anyways.

And on that note I figured I would tell you that android 2.1 for the Hero has been delayed into early may at the earliest.

http://www.androidincanada.ca/news/telus-to-delay-htc-hero-2-1-update-until-may-2010/

its got nothing to do with android. its the carrier. i have verrizon who promised the update for ever and just put out. i mean there already makin 3.0 and by makin i mean like just starting so and if there are roms why dont you just do that?

Well this is becoming ridiculous. 2.1 has been out for 3 months now and Sprint still cant get it up and running while devs from SDX and XDA have had ROMs for weeks.

If XDA puts out a ROM that doesn't work, big deal. People just re-flash to the ROM that works best. If all the Hero owners get an update from Sprint and something doesn't work, ALL Hero owners (not just the 30 nerds that follow this forum) will be contacting Sprint, ripping them a new one... Do you see why it's easier for XDA to put out an update than it is for Sprint? They need to make sure EVERYTHING is flawless. Which means weeks of testing.

Long story short... XDA can put out new ROM's haphazardly, while Sprint needs everything to be immaculate.

Sprint's ONLY (most recent) official announcement about 2.1 was first half of second quarter, 2010. Well, first half of second quarter runs until mid-May, so they aren't late yet, period.

As far as I'm concerned, until mid-May passes without an update, you have no right in complaining that it's late or that we don't have it. ONE single phone in the US has been updated to 2.1, and we have been promised an update by mid-May, so it IS coming (especially considering the leaks that just came out). So quit complaining, the update will be here when it gets here.

This should be a sticky!!! LOL I totally agree 100% with what your saying. In fact, I would not doubt that the 2.1 update does not come out until a week or two before the EVO releases.

If your a person that purchased your phone on the basis that some person in a FRANCHISE store told you that the 2.1 update was coming to this phone then your ignorant. You should immediately pack it up and list it on Craigslist or Ebay. Don't be naive. Seriously. In my profession I work with the wireless carriers and Sprint being one of them. Every time I am on the phone I ask them that same question, "When is 2.1 coming out"? I get the same response EVERY TIME. They don't know. Bottom line. It is what it is.

I run a rooted phone and that is all. It runs great and my battery can go on a single charge for about 18 hours. I use it quite extensively. I am fine with 1.5 on here for however long it takes. It would seem that people want the next best thing and can't be happy with what they have now.

Sprint is not going to release a half-a$$ update which it seems most of the people on here want. If it takes them longer than they say then fine. They are trying to build a reputation with the software. If they can perfect the software then everything else falls into place.

2.1 or not...the Hero still kicks.

Ok I hae an eris and I want 2.1 as much as you want it on your hero, but that doesn't mean im going to whine about how its not ready yet and im being screwed over. Android 1.5 is still a pretty amazing mobile phone OS if you ask me. I am happy to wait another year or so until my contract runs out, by then im sure there will be android 3.0 devices out. You bought the phone, if you wanted 2.0/ 2.1 you should've bought a droid or nexus 1.

I like the people from other carriers and other phones coming in here to make fun of him too.

We've all said to much anyways. Like it's been said, 2.1 was promised first half '10 by Sprint. Until that is over we don't have much justification in getting pissed. We all want 2.1 without having to root (even if we will anyways), but it's not ready yet and wasn't promised to be.

Hello everyone, and I am another said person from another carrier that felt like swinging the bat :D. I just got my hero in 3 days ago. LOVE IT! But aside from that I too have the youtube issue. I have also noticed though that if you get a youtube link from google talk, it works, but regardless...

Quitcherbitchen! (german for STFU! [not really.. but really.])Wahh wahh wahh Screw me, 2.1 blah blah cheetos and fat kids WAAHH wahh wahh.
Look, 1.5 is fine. you'r sad cause you can't deal cause one app doesn't work, big deal! Want to whine cause your FREE upgrade may not be free? We don't care! The phone works fine, I HAVE NOT seen any '2.1 only' apps out there and I would like to add one definite thing...

You know.. Android IS open source. IF you knew what that was, then instead of saying... "I have to vent to the world that I wanna hump barbara streisand's nose", you COULD say.. hmm.. maybe I can fix it. It's that simple. Open source means you can fix it.

Wow.. I feel better :)

(btw, heh, this is my first post here but I am really just here for the dev forums. lol)

Cellular South made an official announcement btw for the same time frame as everyone else (before July 1st).
Anyone wondering if that has anything to do with an insider knowing if I-phone OS 4 is coming out around that time?

Listen noob, there are MANY apps that are for 1.6+ only They are most of the best ones too like Goggles, Google maps with navigation and many more. Whats the point of having a stupid Android phone in the first place if you cant access the best apps?! I do not give two craps about the phone itself working fine. If I just wanted a phone that worked for calls, texts and emails, I could have bought any and not paid damn near $200 for it!

Root your phone and stop crying

MBell... you so contradict yourself! You once again open the ANTI Hero, Google, HTC, Android OS thread and complain while at the same time backstepping. Like all the opinions here which are to be RESPECTED I do yours, but you can be quite annoying. For the life of me I can't understand how you're allowed to open a thread at all, but that's just my humble opinion. You are not asking a question, seeking assistance or offering anything useful. Go outside and scream for a few minutes because it would probably do yourself a world of good to release the obvious tension you have. Or what might be called suppressed anxiety.

But to address your post(s)...

You are like the PC owner with a machine that is incompatible with the newest software or OS and can't figure out why any manufacturer would build in obsolescence or not support their wares after sales. It happens everyday just to let you know if you are unaware. Or can't understand why you equipment won't work with the newest software due to driver incompatibilities or just bad code. Your complaints would be better suited to the Dev's for not supporting the OLDER OS... not making apps for the 1.5 OS. Are you complaining too that there is no software available for Windows 95? Your statements and continual diatribe is tiring, MOST tiring on the subject and it is well worn, again and again in multiple threads, let alone a few of them created by you. Just a question then... why didn't you just post to one of the other threads and kick it up again? At least this way we would know if was just the same BS again.

You brought up WinMo 6.0 - 6.5 and you are incorrect, there WERE 6.0 & 6.5 COMPATIBLE phones for sale even when 6.5 was not even out yet. There were promises of 6.5 upgrades which NEVER materialized. You are NOT owed ANYTHING as all handsets are sold as is with warranties on the HARDWARE! Not software... The OS for the Sprint Hero is a ported version of the GSM and is a known fact. There is nothing more than offering compatibility with the newest apps that Google and Sprint would want and are currently working towards offering that. The rewrite and offer of the 2.1 upgrade is amazing too as it will undoubtedly cause loss of sales by breathing additional life into the use of the handset. Also, I think the refund policy on apps is quite innovative and is offered nowhere else, you buy software, you open it, it's yours, but not so here on the Android OS/Market. As I have posted in your other threads, you argument is akin to expecting an upgrade on DVD codecs, LCD screen software, Audio, Auto, Appliance or any other device/equipment/tool, etc., after purchase. It's just unfounded... the HERO update - promised or not, the promise has not been broken as of yet. Only problem with your thought is this update is not meeting your timetable.

.

Point is this... You are attempting to rationalize your decision to purchase a piece of equipment for cellular communication that in someway or another, you feel was the wrong decision. This is what is classically called BUYERS REMORSE, get over it already, ok.

You further attempt to justify your displeasure by speaking for ALL the Hero owners by projecting negativity which to a large extent is a fixation that you don't seem to be able to detach from, nor want to.

Your argument is unfounded that you are owed ANYTHING. You are NOT, other than maybe the few who would like to hold your hand and comfort your sobs due to their own heartfelt compassion.

The update may never come, so what!? At no point in time can I remember such support of a handset, or platform. Only good things will come of this, but alas, there are those who will never be happy as only good things come to those who wait.

You aptly neglect to state that you WILL do what the thread states... Ditch the Hero, just that you're getting ready for it. Like the Bridge Jumper crying for attention. Doing so might be the release you need.

You may be entitled to post what you want, as I am in turn doing the same. The difficulty lay in restraint, that of which I am now failing to exhibit.

I would end this with "Have a Nice Day" but I think that may be difficult for you considering all your daily angst on the subject and tortured soul committed by your purchase of this cellular phone.

Moderators, my apologies... I just had too...

Goggles is so damn gimmicky, it's pretty worthless. Yes, it's neat, for about 3 searches, then you realize just how worthless it is at this point. Google maps/nav is basically no different than Sprint nav. To be honest, sprint nav works just as well, if not BETTER than google nav (yes, I have used them both...for the same route even, just to compare). A lot of the apps that are only for 1.6+ won't work very well on the Hero's lower end hardware anyway (read LAG).

You have been promised an update, by mid-May, until that timeframe passes (without an update on the progress or technical difficulties from Sprint), they aren't late with this update, and you have no right to p&m. By all means, ditch the Hero. The Hero community doesn't need members acting the way you do, with nothing but complaints, and offering no help to fix problems or develop new software. Had you done a bit of research before making this financial decision, you would have known that while the Hero was pretty sweet at the time, it was already outdated (I didn't do the research, since my gf just went out and bought me the phone for my birthday, but I still don't find any phones on Sprint to be better than the Android OS and Hero).

Please, just ditch the phone, sell it to someone who will enjoy it, and don't come back here with your complaints about it (over and over and over again). Thank you, have a nice day/week/month/year/life :)

I should get Joe Mauer to shake your hand you Minnesotan native, you.

I agree with the guy who said "Wahh wahh wahh Screw me, 2.1 blah blah cheetos and fat kids WAAHH wahh wahh."

The funny thing is some of these people will be back in year talking about how the EVO is not getting 4.0 or some $hit. LOL I wanted 2.1 so guess what? I added the ROM. I would love to have a fully supported 2.1, I also have this thing called a life where I have to go to work, coach my kids sports, and drink beer so it doesnt run my life. I like my rooted Hero very much and I still my upgrade to the EVO, but I'm not going to bitch about it. There is always going to be a new phone coming out every 18 months or so. Ok Im done putting in my 2 cents, I will get down from my box. :D

I'd rather shake Mike Redmond's hand, but he's not in Minnesota anymore. At least he wasn't a pansy the way Mauer is :p (sorry, I might have a bit of bias towards a catcher that can take a hell of a beating...I was a catcher for about 10 years, and never had a good pitcher to work with lol)

I used to pitch but not anymore after I tore my a/c joint. Joe Mauer is one hell of a player though. You're right that it's damn unfortunate he doesn't have any good pitchers to catch but if Liriano can get back to his original form, the Twins would be a damned good team. Baker is no Roy Halladay but he's the best they have to offer, atm.

I didn't say MAUER doesn't have any good pitchers to catch, I said I didn't when I played lol. Between Pavano, Liriano, Blackburn, Slowey, and Baker, the Twins have one hell of a chance at taking it all. We'll see how Rauch pulls it off as the closer (an overrated position, in my opinion)

I thought you were leaving.

Yep but I (and millions others) was promised by dumbass Sprint sales people that it would be updated to the new OS "any day now" or "early Feb" or "mid Feb" or "late Feb" or "early March"....take your pick. They say anything needed to sell this phone and lets face it, Sprint themselves has lied about OS updates on other phones before. Nice way to treat customers

I find Sprint sales people the easiest to deal with of all of the phone reps that I deal with. They tell you those dates because that is what they hear from Android. The update is through the company who makes the OS not the phone service carrier. They didn't lie to you, they just told you the information that they had available to them...

The funny thing is some of these people will be back in year talking about how the EVO is not getting 4.0 or some $hit. LOL

Actually, after the 2.1 Flood of updates, I remember reading that Google will no longer be crazy with any updates and allow the OS to level off. I think from thereafter you are going see "device" specific application upgrades, say Google Maps for EVO, not an upgrade to 2.x-3.x, etc.

That is the way to go iMHO... Google announced that they want to get to major upgrades (maybe yearly) so to concentrate on other project development.

Anyway... can't source it, cause I can't remember where I read it, lol...
Mis-Spent Youth!!!

hahahaha...
