Actually, after the 2.1 Flood of updates, I remember reading that Google will no longer be crazy with any updates and allow the OS to level off. I think from thereafter you are going see "device" specific application upgrades, say Google Maps for EVO, not an upgrade to 2.x-3.x, etc.
That is the way to go iMHO... Google announced that they want to get to major upgrades (maybe yearly) so to concentrate on other project development.
Anyway... can't source it, cause I can't remember where I read it, lol...

Good. They need to get all the phones and carriers on the same version and fast. Once the OS is where they want it to be, no need to have major updates more than once, maybe twice a year.
