Are you referring to the update to gb to fix the bugs? Or just the gb update...because I'm still waiting for gb...would be nice to have that before the bug fix update :)

Actually, I'm not sure why you want a buggy gingerbread. It is decent but not earth shattering. So why not wait for the bug free version. If you can't wait, seriously consider root. It is easy and gets you a bugless experience.

Did I miss something? What is the reason to halt this update? The sd card issue? That's it?

i'm updated and my phone has been noticeably smoother and faster since. While it didn't fix any of my pet peeve issues (data/data partition chief among them)..I didn't expect it to. Really surprised they halted it.

The majority of users don't know how to fix these issues themselves. Hence, when bugs like these exist, they have to decide to halt and fix or deal with a ton of calls telling people they have to wait then fix. If you were them which would be better for an enhancement update.

They chose to make more people less miserable. Can't really blame them.

Again, there's been no word that the update was pulled or halted. According to Verizon, the update is still happening. Sure lots of us don't have it yet, and while it sounds good that they would stop the update to fix it, officially it's still going.

And while the sd card issue, and Bluetooth issue ( which according to Verizon's tweets, they are aware of and are investigating) are pretty major bugs, I wouldn't be surprised if the issue of the phone thinking it's a competitors phone to them would be a big issue. The phone reporting it has a 4.3" screen when it doesnt, could cause problems with apps that check for screen size too.

I'm baffled as to why people are saying that because VZW says the update is still rolling out, that it is. What VZW says is irrelevant. Why? Because either it's a blatant lie, it's late, or it's candy-coated corporate BS.

We FIRST found out about the update officially getting pushed by someone posting IN THIS THREAD. HTC was the first to say anything and that was a few days later... on Facebook.

In addition, there were people who either hadn't logged on here if in a while, or even signed up, and posted that they got the update and had no idea it was coming. However, in the last 1.5 weeks no one has posted here they have gotten it recently? Although it's certainly no definitive since it's based on volunteer participation, it should be pretty clear that THE UPDATE HAS BEEN PULLED.

All evidence points to it.

It's been about a week since I reported random uncommanded reboots after receiving the OTA update.
In the last three days I have now developed severe issues with sending texts, with multiple failures. This is another issue that I have not had prior to the OTA.
Additionally, the large HTC weather thing on the home screen has disappeared, and another icon on the home screen has installed itself . This icon opens to show a very slimmed down phone contact list, with very little info displayed besides the names of contacts.
At this point, if Verizon has not halted pushing the OTA, they need to until these issues are resolved. While I love my DINC, it is nearly unusable right now due to these issues.

Call and demand that they send you 2.2 OTA ... when they determine that they can't, demand a free DINC 2.

Oooh....I like that.

Might try that in a bit.
Three more failed messages, now saying general system failure since I posted last.

If they fight you say it's a warranty issue. If they claim that you are out of warranty then say something like "wow, I've had the update less than a week. How long is your warranty??? It's surely at least a week"

Just got off the phone with the Tech Support person from Verizon.
One of the most pleasant and helpful people that I have dealt with in years.

Brief synopsis;
Many complaints since the OTA went out.
Wanted to know EVERY glitch that I was experiencing.
Could not confirm, but suspects that the OTA has been halted due to the volume of issues that they are receiving.
Overnighting replacement DINC 2 under device failure, with no cost to me.

This was offered immediately, with no initial request for it on my part.
Offered 50% off Verizons extended battery to replace my battery for the original DINC, but it's only 2150ma, and I want to go with the 3500ma, same as the original DINC.

Overall, extremely disappointed with the OTA, but her efforts to make it right by me were outstanding.

So yeh...the OTA has some major issues.

Off topic, does anyone know if the physical dimensions of the 3500ma are the same for both, and if I could find just the DINC 2 back door, be able to continue using the current extended battery?

I don't think it will fit. And even if it did, you'll have a hard time finding somebody who would sell just the battery door. EDIT: after a couple of minutes of searching, I couldn't find any battery that listed both the incredible and the incredible 2 as being compatible.

My wife got the OTA almost 2 weeks ago and of course ran into the usual issues of low space and applications on the SD card not working. Was able to fix most of those issues on my own thanks to this site. It also turns out she lost the ability to receive text messages. She could send them without any problem but no new messages or replies could come in.

Finally called Verizon late last week and spent a good hour on the phone with them working through some possible solutions with no positive outcome. They submitted a repair ticket for tech support to look into the problem. Called back 2 days later to ask for an update and they said because the issue was related to the OTA they would be sending her out an Inc 2 even though she was beyond her warranty window. Never asked for that as a solution but it is a positive outcome. I did mention to them a few times during the call that I was aware that the OTA sent out was causing some issues for other users out there to let them know that I was somewhat educated on the topic and was not clueless about using the phone.

I guess to many people they would be happy with this solution. I wouldn't be. My girl has the Dinc2 and the only thing I like about it is the slightly bigger screen. I'd rather have my AMOLED screen. Her phone likes to randomly call people, text, or reboot. It's basically a smaller Thunderbolt without 4G.

Have you tried to factory reset to see if that solves the issues?

In all honesty, I would always suggest that before you go out and buy a new phone, you try rooting and flashing a gingerbread rom. Nils business sense, cm7, or miui are the ones I would suggest.

It is like getting a new phone

I'm getting close to going this route but I've never rooted. Everytime I start to look at the guides to walk me through it, I get scared and run back to my stock Incredible. I need to do something to hold me over until a respectable replacement with 4g comes out.

How long have you owned your phone?

Sorry for the delay in responding.
Got the phone around 9 months ago.

Judging by me joining this forum in February, I'm thinking that I got the phone about two days before joining here.

Service Tech clearly stated that the issue was related to the OTA.
I get the impression that with the right Service Tech, it won't matter if your phone is in warranty or not, that the OTA broke it.

Not really thrilled about going to the DINC 2.
After the Tech and I talked for about 10 minutes about life and shared experiences (Her father retired military, stationed in Italy, I retired last year with 7 years in Italy) she agreed that most of the improvements, like global usability had no real value to me. But, she tried her level best to make it as right for me as she could.

Phones are sort of like shoes.
Yes, there are newer and fancier ones out there.
But this one just fits.

I know it's probably off topic but had my txt messages all delete again today....6th time since getting Froyo last year. Called Verizon and after a long discussion they are sending me out a replacment Incredible 2 even though my phone is out of warranty. They are doing this because I complained about this issue for months now. One down side is the Incredible 2 will be refurbished but since I have one last new every 2 to use in April I have no problem with a refurb phone untill then.

Of course it does help that you're within the first year.

I have not gotten the elusive GB OTA yet and I am thinking I should be glad I didn't with all the bugs.
My wife has the same phone, bought on the same day, and no OTa so far.
Personally, I think I have seen enough to say that based on my conversation with Tech Support, in my opinion;

The OTA has significant issues.
These issues do not effect all DINC's, but have effected a significant number of them.
There seems to be no predictor as to which phones will be effected.
The OTA has probably been halted.
The warranty, and age of the phone should not be an issue, as the OTA is what is trashing the phones. It's kind of difficult for Verizon to build the argument that they won't fix/replace an out of warranty phone when the cause of failure is the Verizon provided and pushed OTA.

I would go further and recommend that anyone receiving the OTA notification decline the update, and post here that they did receive the push. The reason for that is that there was the initial flurry of posters, myself included, that posted with joy that they had received it. That occurred at around the one week mark on the push. Since then, I don't believe that I have seen a single poster report recently that they have received the OTA.

Wow.. I've been thrilled with my ota. No new issues that I didn't have with froyo. And my phone has been performing better. Looks like I should consider myself lucky.

And yes.....when I was haggling to get my Incredible replaced I did ask about the OTA. The Verizon support person I spoke to said it was stopped for some issues.
