Does anyone wanna volunteer to call and ask around? I know you probably won't get much info but it's worth a try. Right? I've got some free time, but not until friday.

Got the OTA update last week.
Installed without a hitch.

Starting three days ago, I am having sudden, random reboots of the phone.
Prior to the OTA, I had not had an uncommanded reboot in months.

Any one else having this issue?

yeah I was having the same issues with reboots.after using some of my apps the phone would reboot. Yesterday I cleared all caches and pulled the battery, no reboots since. (Yet)

for those frustrated about not yet getting the ota update, i'll share the flip side of the coin. i woke up the morning of 9/9 with the update waiting on my phone. i happily allowed it to download while showering and getting ready for work, and looked forward to playing with it intermittently as my time allowed during the day to see what enhancements i would notice. i should point out that i was not one of those anxiously awaiting the update to 2.3 assuming it would change my life, but i was hopeful for a slight improvement in battery life and some solution to the dreaded low on space issue.

it has now been five days and i have yet to see any noticeable enhancement to my phone in any matter at all. i wish that were the end of the story, but alas it is not. since "upgrading" to gingerbread, my battery life has significantly degraded, i get the low on space error way more frequently than i did before, the missing apps problem has plagued me every time i have powered down, and i am finding the user experience to be more buggy than ever before. i am not a power user like many others in this community, i am not rooted and do not completely understand what it means to "flash a rom" or what an "RUU" is, but i know for a fact that i understand and use my phone on a much more advanced level than the average user on the street. the fact is, my experience with my DI has gotten worse since the "upgrade". and say what you will, i dont believe i should have to be a graduate of MIT or carnegie mellon, or have a career in IT to be able to use my phone as it was intended.

i am not here to whine or complain, but simply to share my experience with those of you feeling cheated about not yet receiving the update. if i had my choice at this point, i would gladly go back to froyo and live with that until a new phone came out that caught my attention. rant over.

i have not gotten the update - nor any of our office phones. my girlfriend did get the update on day one... she has had these issues since. she still gets the out of disk space message on occasion but she is really complaining about the following...

1 - wifi and 3g drops connections all the time. only way to make the phone do something is to reboot it.
2 - random reboots. happens 3 - 5 times a day mostly when the phone is not in use.

she is also not a power user by any means - not rooted, only a couple of apps installed, uses the phone for calls, txt, some facebook and internet browsing. she is not happy...

I'm in the same position of stock 2.2 rooted and CWM.

Sorry if this seems a little too pedantic, but to flash the stock recovery, did you rename the stock recovery from dougpiston.com to PB31IMG on the SDCARD, go into HBOOT, and then accept the update? After that I'm assuming you had no issues with the OTA? I'm not planning on re-rooting right away, because my phone may have some issues that might require service. Thanks!

That's what I did. After renaming the file and rebooting into hboot (power + vol down) the file was recognized and applied. After this I put the ota zip on the root (deleting the dougpiston file first) and updated.

I've had a few issues since updating, but minimized them by moving the apps to the phone before updating.

I froze some Verizon bloatware and can say that with the updated radio I can go 24 hours at work without recharging when pre update I had to charge after 9 hours due to searching signal.

Rerooting was also a breeze since I left s-off.

Hope I helped

Thanks for your detailed and measured assessment of the update. I'm a similar Incredible user. I did root my old Eris b/c it really made a huge improvement over usability, but I don't have the time or effort to root my DInc and play with all the different ROMS. So I have been waiting for this OTA update with some interest since it was supposed to make the phone a little better. Perhaps it's a good thing I haven't gotten it yet. Aside from battery drain, my phone works well and helps me be productive at work. So if updating makes it function erratically, I might hold off indefinitely on updating until I get a new phone.

Just tried this a few times with no luck. It kept aborting the installation; something about wrong signatures maybe.

Just to clarify, I have ClockworkMod Recovery on my phone, which is trying to install the update with no luck.

You have to flash over cwm recovery with the stock recovery available at dougpiston.com

Then you can apply the update and then reflash cwm again and reroot.

Make sure you have s-off before you do it.

Do this...move all the apps from the SD card to the phone and back, one at a time. That should resolve both the low on space and the sd card app issues (or at least make the low on space issue somewhat better).

So carylev post above sounds honest.

I'm not sure if this has been answered but what happens if you refuse the update and your happy with Froyo 2.2, will Verizon force the update onto your phone or can you continued to just use 2.2

I'm one of the people that I really love my incredible and 2.2 is really fine for me, I'm not rooted and still virgin. I just don't want any of the problems spelled out by carleyv above. I'd rather keep my 2.2 but is that possible?

Nothing here in Connecticut yet. Tried Checkin, still nada.

WTF? Metro area not rolled out yet?

One of these days..... I can only wait....

Lately, my contacts crashes for no reason, but can view them if I scroll past the "A" contacts. Go figure.

Very curious myself to this question. I'm in the same boat; stock Inc that is used for work.

BTW - I haven't received the update notification yet either

I'm right there with you. I had to do a factory reset today, and am still having issues. Not sure what to do next. Very sad, I loved my phone before the update.

I resisted the Froyo update for 8 months. Finally accepted it when my Inc got into a reboot loop and was unusable...applying the 2.2 update fixed it.

You can ignore the update, but it will prompt you about every 30 minutes to install it.... and it is possible for the update to suddenly install itself. BUT by that time Verizon may have worked out the kinks.

Had the update for about a week. My observations:

(1) After spending about twenty minutes reinstalling apps that vaporized, I've had zero problems. The disappearing apps issue is a one-time pain and no big deal. The underlying settings seem to have been saved and there after the reinstall. Because of my experience with the low space issue, and how the update resolved it for me (as I describe in (3)), I probably would have spent as much time uninstalling or moving apps anyway.

(2) I don't notice a difference, one way or the other on the battery. As my use settles back into my normal pattern, it seems about the same. My battery meter (I use Circle Battery Widget) still drops quickly from fully charged to 87-90 percent and then seems to settle down. I plug in frequently, so I don't have a great read on how long it would last in total. I also use a ton of plug-ins and screen add-ons, so that eats into my battery.

(3) I used to have low space issues and had to uninstall programs to reclaim space. The better file management on the big programs like Netflix has resolved this issue for me. My assumption is that to get that extra file space, you have to move the program to the phone (or uninstall) and then re-move the program to the SD. I'm guessing this "two-step" insures that the lib files move to the SD as well. It's been a big difference for me, and I haven't had the low space issue since.

(4) Boot continues to be much faster, whether or not I have "fast boot" checked.

(5) I cannot bump charge with fast boot checked, but the one time I unchecked and powered down, I could. I haven't checked again to see if that's the case.

I've had the ROM with the build.prop fixed flashed for a few days now, along with the GB 07.07 radio. So far, for me:

-Battery life seems a bit better once I dialed *228 and chose Option 1 followed by Option 2, cleared battery stats, and charged it with the phone TOTALLY off. (72% left from 6:30a to 11:00p, no Facebook or HTC Mail, No Wi-Fi, Weather every hour, News ever 4 hrs, with about 30-40 SMS/MMS, GMail checking, about 5 minutes of Navigation, about 30 minutes of music, and a geo-tagged photo).
-Sense is better. The HTC Music app keeps MUCH better track of where you paused. No more restarting songs that have been paused for a few hours. It keeps track of ringer volume for when headphones are plugged in and when they aren't, too. My phone is maxed unless I have headphones in. Then ring volume automatically drops for me. Cool! Flip clock is cool. New People widget, but it isn't too great. Home screens load no faster or slower. No new Themes or wallpapers, and no HTC Sense hub. 'Flip for speakerphone' and 'Ring loud in pocket' are nice features. With 'Fast Boot' off, Sense doesn't load up as nicely on boot-up, so just don't let your friends see your phone turn on, haha.
-Text selection rules now. You liked the trackpad? Try this. It is iPhone style, where the text you scroll around with your finger is magnified for easy curser placement. Copy/Paste is great.
-Web Browser is nicer. Seems quicker than 2.2 and allows more options, and more windows can be opened.
-The phone is faster/smoother, UI (HTC) is prettier and more vibrant, and Gingerbread's new App and Battery Management section is great.
-Cell service improvement is yet to be seen, but I think my Data Transfer is faster (no proof).
-The Camera app has a new feature called 'Auto Enhance.' I do not know what it does. The gallery app still has no connection to Picasa, WHY?

-PROBLEMS: Only One ---> The phone restarts pretty hard after I take photos sometimes. I think it may have to do with the 'Auto Enhance' feature, but I also may have a corrupted internal storage that needs to be formatted. That is the only possible problem I found so far. I wish I had an Orange (or green in HTC's case) glow when I reach the end of a menu, and I really want the CRT-display-style screen-off animation, but those aren't problems.

-I am happy with this update. Looking forward to a final version as an RUU.

For those of you who were unable to update from the leaked RUU 605.2, I found the solution in an XDA forum (link below, look at post number 14). FYI, I did not have to re-install the RUU, it found the patch update.zip file and upgraded my DINC to 605.3. Also, the link to the patch file from that forum is broken, so I also included the link for that:
