Yeah, I completely believe the random person on an internet forum mentioning a Twitter page that he didn't bother to link.

By my count that 4 separate reasons this is completely worthless.

No idea about all HTC phones, but there are several replies from @VZWSupport stating the update for the incredible has been suspended without ETA to resume.

I am rooted with the OTA rom, but even still, come check out this thread 1-2x per week. But seriously, does anybody really think that Verizon\HTC, whoever decideds, is still going to push this update out, after 2 failed attempts and the cost of the Inc2's they are handing out? They've washed their hands of it, time to face the music... Root or start looking at new phones..

See, I take it two ways: Most people who have issues with the phone after the update are usually the ones who post in the forums. The average Joe who has a working update with no problems wouldn't bother to take the time to post here.

With that being said, I think that for those who do have issues, you pretty much have two choices: Hard Reset or Root and install another ROM.

I was one of those people anxiously awaiting GB and seeing how it could make my phone more awesome. But when I started hearing of all the problems and the solutions from Verizon being to do hard resets, I got discouraged. Now, I know that any ROM update can't be tested to perfection with so many different system configurations out there. But seriously, when your phone's hardware info says 4.3" screen and you get Sprint apps on the market, something seriously went wrong!

The good news is that there are plenty of good ROMS out there to use. The alternatives are a-plenty. Sure, there's no super quick 1,2 3 steps to Rooting and installing a ROM (although I'm sure there are some experts who would see it that way). When I installed Gingersense, I took my time to read all the directions, and even had to do Google Searches on questions that I had. I made sure that the evening I did the install I had plenty of time with no interruption. (Don't ask me how long it took for me!! I'm such a noob!) But the outcome was well worth it. Gingersense runs all the nice HTC Sense 3.0 features, and the phone has such a different look, it's well worth it. Oh, and by the way, the hardware info says 3.7" Screen!

I feel like I'm some kind of Gingersense spokesperson, but remember there are also plenty of others too including the really popular CM series.

Well, my point in this rant is this: If your not satisfied with the way your phone is and don't want to get a new phone or wait (if ever) for a fix to arrive from Verizon, then go ahead and ROOT and install new ROMS! That's the beauty of Android. You can do it!

Hard reset won't fix the Sprint market/screen size issue, nor will it fix the SMS bug. It should fix the sd card app bug, but only in the way that burning your house down is one way to deal with peeling wallpaper.
However, the Market/screen size is trivial. Almost no apps check the screen size there, and honestly, is anybody heartbroken that they can't install Verizon's apps?
HTC has a fix for the text messaging bug (there is a link in the support subsection). For some reason Verizon doesn't know about the fix, but there is one. And you can resolve the sd card app bug by simply moving the apps to the phone then back to the sd card.

And rooting ISN'T an option to fix bugs with the update. The update closes all the known root exploits, so unless you were already rooted your SOL.

No, something TRIVIAL went wrong. There is a text file that holds various information specify build information for the phone (OEM, model, network, screen size, etc). The forgot to change that from the Evo (which is 99% the same phone). If you could root I could explain to a 5 year old how to fix that in 5 minutes (ok, somebody would have to check their spelling).

+1 on this. I don't recommend rooting for everyone, if you're at all interesting in rooting you should do that now instead of waiting for the fixed update.

it's a GB/HTC thing, known root exploits were fixed in gingerbread for security reasons, HTC locks their bootloader thereby preventing root. They have changed that policy with a few phones, we'll see if it eventually extends to all current phones (highly doubtful).

They will. They have to fix the gingerbread that broke my phone at least! All the reps I've spoken with at Verizon and HTC have told me they are working on it. It will come, eventually. Until then, the "lucky" people who got the half baked gingerbread have to live with our wacked out phones. Unlike some, I have-not been offered a snazzy new Incredible 2, even though I don't really want one.

Blue tooth, low space (although not to the extent some others are users are experiencing) I had never had that error prior to gingerbread, the crashing or force closing of sense which is getting worse, the apps to SD which I can't work around despite all the great advice on this board. Let me tell you, a cross country flight with a 10 year old and no angry birds is no fun.
These are the most obnoxious, the market and screen specs are funny, but trivial.

Correct....have root with stock rom and updated with XDA update, works flawlessly, just load the zip file on SD card, backup apps/data with titanium and do a wipe/ flash with Rom Manager with new zip file right from your phone....also used XDA zip files to get rid of the Droid nag sound & GPS nag on start up, both also worked flawlessly.....2.3.4 does seem to be a little zippier and no difference in my battery life...2.2 was ok and probably would not have upgraded but had to get rid of the VZ update system nag...root I need as I use wireless tether a lot with my laptop...and of course titanium is a must IMO...

Dont forget to re-enable the tethering using the 778 method. I did it all above and everything worked. Then I tried to use tethering for my ipad and I got the stupid upsell crap dump page from verizon.

I'm sorry, but this is flat out not true. Tethering is not included in your $125, and thus they do have the right to ask you to pay more. It is a phone they subsidized and their network. You pay to use YOUR Verizon approved devise on their network using services you agree to pay for.

Folks, I do not judge those who choose to tether, it isn't my business. However, do not try to rationalize your decision to circumvent your contract. When you use tethering for free, you are choosing to try and steal a service you are supposed to pay for.

The only reason I even get involved with this is that tethering does use more data and Verizon is showing a willingness to throttle data because use is skyrocketing. I hope I never end up being throttled but it is more likely the more people tether for free.

With Gingerbread eventually getting out to the masses (this is where my post gets back on topic), more and more data will be used and thus the threshold for throttle will go down and more of us will see it.

Uh, I disagree.

I am only using my iPad - not downloading torrents on my laptop while tethering. I don't use it as a home broadband replacement either like some. I am not sucking off the system, oh and subsidized? Please! I already paid $200 up front, how much more do you think the phone is worth? I have already paid in $2,250 since having the phone and will continue to pay an additional $750 before the contract is over with - making the total cost of the "subsidy + service = $3,200.

How much is the phone really worth? How do you think Verizon makes all their money?

I confirm it too! I can send texts but cannot receive them! So I did a factory reset and am now using the stock update and the low on space (annoying as ever) error went away but I still cant receive texts. So I have to resort to Google voice which can't send or receive MMS (annoying)

The low on space thing has been a thorn in my side since I got this thing.
