Earlier this week I was upgraded to Gingerbread, build 4.06. This morning I was upgraded to Gingerbread, build 4.08. This build corrected my display infro from 4.3 to 3.7 and in the Android Market have a selection for Verizon apps instead of Sprint apps.

I'm chiming in as another who got the '4.06...' update yesterday, then got the '4.08...' update this morning, downloaded it and was told I didn't have enough space. I deleted Opera browser (~11MB) but phone now said I was "up to date." Found the set month ahead trick, that worked... downloaded the update and it was verified, but now when I tap "Restart & install" it just stays on "Rebooting now..."

Also, now my apps on SD refuse to be recognized (despite trying all the tricks/tips I've found in the forums).

Has anyone had any resolution to this? I've got a support ticket going with HTC and just responded to them with the above description. I'm hoping they have some shred of a clue left.

I am in the same boat as you. I got the 2nd update this morning, clicked install and restart. The phone restarted, but there was no evidence that it was installing anything. It just booted up as normal. When it was done booting up, I was told I didn't have enough space. I had 400 mb free. I cleared some more room to make it 444 mb. I then did the date trick, and it came back. I clicked install and restart, it counted down, and nothing happened. So I rebooted, and got the update again. I clicked install and restart, and nothing happened again.

Called VZW support, talked to "greg". He said he hasn't had any reports of this issue yet. Also said they send updates some how related to your billing cycle, so the update will be pushed again in the next billing cycle... Of course he then said HTC is really the one who sends the update and "Verizon really doesnt have anytjing to do with it".

Don't those two statements kind of contradict each other...

And of course, just checked Twitter and tons of people are reporting the problem but no response from @vzwsupport.

Edit: found some responses ranging from "clear your caches" to "wait" . Basically go pound sand.

I do believe Greg has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. That's on par with a car dealer telling you that you need an oil change after every loan payment.

I can see the "next billing cycle" part as legit. When I tried the aforementioned trick of setting the date up 1 month, it kidna acts like it's going to update but then won't. I tried it again but i had to set it forwards two months to trick it. but still no luck on getting it to actually reboot and install

Those are probably the solutions for almost everybody. Either the update won't download because there isn't enough space (see the massive thread on the Low On Space issue) or all of verizon's update servers are busy when you're phone checks them. All in all, just be patient. And try some of the tricks later on, when the system will likely be less busy.

Just double checking...I am on 4.06.605.3 and didn't have room for the last update. This is the update that I was supposed to get and can now install? (Sorry for the stupidity, I'm so a tech idiot when it comes to the phone)

Correct. You have all but the final update. And that's the one I posted the direct link to.

25 minutes later I'm still rebooting. Now I'm getting worried.

I just gave up and rebooted manually. Nothing negative happened except my growing frustration when the update didn't install.

For others out there there are in this limbo and cannot get LauncherPro to work - I had to power down and pull my battery. Once reinstalled and restarted, LauncherPro was back and working.

This is how I updated to 4.06 now when trying to update to 4.08 I get into hboot, select recovery then it just goes to a phone with a red triangle. I have to battery pull to reboot.

You guys that are having issues with lack of space, try this:

App Cache Cleaner - Android app on AppBrain

Nice to see they've finally got a cache cleaner that doesn't require root. I'm guessing that may solve your issues.

Again, if you are having problems with lack of space, try loading a cache cleaning app like the one above. I'm pretty sure the cache partition is running short especially for the people who got the 80 MB file and then the final 8 MB update right after. Reboot after using the cleaner.

You can try to goto /cache with a file manager and delete a previous update but I don't know if any non-root file managers will allow it.

Thanks. It appears that it did download for me. I clicked install and it's been rebooting now for a half hour. I don't know what to do and am afraid to pull the battery.
Are you able to get back to the home screen? I was able to and my phone acted like nothing happened. I did a restart hoping the update would install but nothing.

I don't think the hanging on that screen is anything to worry about. there's no evidence that any install was started or was in progress. I've done it 3 times now and gave up all 3 after long waits and i have no ill effects.

Right after you select recovery, press volume up to get the list of recovery options. I don't know why they had to add that stupid step, it confuses people.

I just hit home and it went home. Strange. What do we do now?

Always hate to pull the battery in these situations for sure. That's a long time though, I'd give it awhile longer and hope. If not, you may have no choice at some point.

edit: looks like you have new info anyway.

i've pretty much given up and tried to get back to work. at least i'm somewhat productive there rather than wasting my time trying to get this stupid update to install.

i "F5" this page every few minutes to see if someone found the way to trick the phone into doing the update.
