Gingerbread to Fascinate first?

i gotta say...it never gets old to me :)

The pic/idea came from the Eris forum.....someone stated that every time a person made a post about when 2.1 was coming to the Eris that a kitten was killed....so I figured it also applies to Froyo and Gingerrbread coming to the Fascinate....:D

While I have not had a 3 month wait already...my Fascinate is on it's way to me :D

Did anyone check Phandroid?

Galaxy S Receives Gingerbread Courtesy of Nexus S | Android Phone Fans

As soon as GPS and WiFi are working...I'll be flashing. Forget official updates...dev community for me :D

if you are rocking a fascinate...i wouldnt flash that

you would probably overwrite your radio with gsm firmware and not be able to restore it with out radio files

birdman has made great aosp progress recently (hes not the only one working on it obviously...just he tends to give the updates)

wander over to irc #samsung-fascinate for chat, discussion, updates ;)

nitsuj17,

What's that story mean for us Fascinate owners exactly? Does that mean Gingerbread should be just around the corner for Fascinates that have root access?

And by that story, I mean: Samsung Galaxy S receives Gingerbread port right from the Nexus S source (video) -- Engadget

while something may be able to be extracted from the nexus s dump....we use completely different radio files than those of the gsm nexus s

this will not help the devs a whole lot...much in the way froyo dumps from other sgs phone have not helped us

our best hope for early gingerbread are the 4-5 talented individuals currently working on getting the radios working 100% in aosp...but i think we will need 2.2 before froyo can be built

Thanks for the heads up.

I have been researching and studying up on rooting the last few months. Been on the absolute verge of rooting and have been waiting for something to tip me over the edge to take the plunge. Maybe I'll keep waiting, but I like hearing the people are working on this.

So you guys/gals don't get any kind of ports from the other galaxy s phones? :(

I figured with 5 total Galaxy S phones (excluding the Nexus S)...there would be more "sharing" between models???

So now that 2.3 is on AOSP that doesn't help either?

Man thats the first time I've heard supercurio's voice, wowza he's even more french sounding in real life :p.

Something tells me once we actually get froyo, the months of waiting for it will be replaced by hours of waiting for gingerbread

Well we can get* some* help from the epic guys and some of their radio files have advanced aosp...,(which is looking more up hourly it seems)

And the voodoo lagfix and other project voodoo fixes have all worked out well for us....so some sharing exists....the fact that probably over 80% of galaxy s phones are gsm....those guys share a lot....we tend to be on an island

Really though updates come quickly in irc all the time....more and more radio issues are being worked out....so we could have aosp eclair soon......then once froyo drops......aosp froyo and gingerbread to follow shortly

I hate "through the grape vine" talk but I was talking to Verizon about replacing my battery (per the suggestion of some folks on here for my battery drain issues) and I mentioned the GPS issue. The guy was tech support and said the fix hasn't been approved by Verizon and that "it looks like the Fascinate will be getting 2.3" but he didn't say when (duh).

I guess that's more "proof" that we'll be getting 2.3 and not 2.2. I sure hope so.

Its more or less a given that dl09 is the next update....but again whether that sees the light of day......,

Just doesn't make a lot of sense to have 2 separate ota s so close to oneanother....you think vzw would roll it all up and save some money/headaches

Proof is when I see it on my phone.
The rest ......... pure BS !

A philosophy I've adopted after years of playing with F, H, HU, FTA etc

While I agree with the above statement I've also learned to believe in and trust supercurio. So when he says:

[23:34] <supercurio> fascinate is not supported yet by the gb port !!
[23:34] <supercurio> but it will :)

[23:34] <supercurio> i'm used to the fascinate with voodoo work

[23:34] <supercurio> it will be the same ;)

it makes me :D

yeah the extremely smart people who develop for this phone believe it...so i cant have anything but complete confidence in them :)

I'm not familiar with the Devs for the Fascinate yet...But if the Devs for the Moto Droid taught me anything...it's to have confidence in them.

3 Months after the Droid was released...we had decent "hacked ROMs".

6 Months after the Droid was released...Moto updates were almost irrelevant! Source built ROMs took over and the Droid became updated to the latest version in AOSP long before Moto pushed anything out.

I'm hoping the Fascinate (and all Galaxy S devices) see the same kind of Dev support. People just have to remember that ROM Devs are usually not supported as well as the Devs that create games and applications (financially speaking). ;)

the development community for the fascinate is quite small relative to say the og droid....however the few guys we have working on stuff are about the best out there...so if it can be done...it will be done :)

1 or 2 superstars is all we really need :D

The Dev community doesn't need to be as strong as the Droid's because the Droid was much more limited from a hardware standpoint...they had to be very creative to keep the Droid competitive with other devices.

Maybe if the Dev community stays relatively small there will be decent money in it for them.

yeah irc is neat for the fascinate as all the devs are in there at various times of the day...so you get real time updates of where they are at or they ll have ya log stuff for them

they definitely make the most of the crappy sandbox samsung gave them to play in software wise
