Gingerbread to Fascinate first?

I'm not familiar with the Devs for the Fascinate yet...But if the Devs for the Moto Droid taught me anything...it's to have confidence in them.

3 Months after the Droid was released...we had decent "hacked ROMs".

6 Months after the Droid was released...Moto updates were almost irrelevant! Source built ROMs took over and the Droid became updated to the latest version in AOSP long before Moto pushed anything out.

I'm hoping the Fascinate (and all Galaxy S devices) see the same kind of Dev support. People just have to remember that ROM Devs are usually not supported as well as the Devs that create games and applications (financially speaking).

the development community for the fascinate is quite small relative to say the og droid....however the few guys we have working on stuff are about the best out there...so if it can be done...it will be done

1 or 2 superstars is all we really need

The Dev community doesn't need to be as strong as the Droid's because the Droid was much more limited from a hardware standpoint...they had to be very creative to keep the Droid competitive with other devices.

Maybe if the Dev community stays relatively small there will be decent money in it for them.

Well we got supercurio so thats almost all we need. Although admittedly most of his stuff comes to us thru jt1134 since Im still not sure supercurio actually has a SF yet or not, although I think he finally does. jt1134 is the prime SF guy these days, almost every rom or kernel is a extrapolation of his original handiwork. But there's plenty of good guys doing 1st tier and 2ns tier stuff. Our circle is clearly much smaller than the Droid faction but I like who we got. Very exceptional themers, porters too. adrynalyne is pumping stuff out now too as well as being the rescue boat. birdman is getting close on aosp and gb....maybe. good kernels coming from geeknik and nemesis2all and others now.
Im pleased with where we are at and who we have working for us

You and saps are right though...maybe smaller is better. I sure don't have much faith in Samsung considering the wait time for 2.2 so far. If sammy dropped 2.3 soon instead of 2.2...they may save some face and redeem themselves a little.

Yeah Sammy is notoriously poor on update support, pair that with verizon's own foot dragging its a lose lose for us. The stars do seem aligned for the devs to get us some GB awfully quick-like comparatively speaking

Do you guys think the Fascinate will definitely get, at least 2.2 if not 2.3? I haven't been waiting like you guys have, but I am looking into getting the Fascinate and, while it's not a breaking point for me, I'd be pretty disappointed if it didn't get either upgrade at all.

Yes it will get updated. The question is not "if", it is "when". This phone is too new, too popular, and too capable to not get updated.

100% guarantee and both 2.2 and 2.3 as long as you are willing to go the non-OTA route. OTA wise I'd say 99.9% on 2.2 and 95% on 2.3 eventually

We will get it for sure and if you become part of the root crowd after getting 2.2 we will have 2.3 pretty quick.

Yeah there is no doubt whatsoever on getting 2.2....its just the infamous. "When"

Official 2.3 id say most likely yes but don't count on it before may/june...,and by then a portion of us will be rocking some other superphone im sure.

Unofficial 2.3 in january is what i have on my wishlist

Not me Im riding the SF for many months to come. I will not pay full retail for a 4G phone without 4G service so when some jump ship for tegra2 goodness I will still be here all summer long

I'll be here until vzw brings the heat with HTC after CES. I doubt I'll be getting another Samsung phone...really like they're hardware, but the back end support is really not so good. Either way 2011 should shape up to be an awesome year for new and exciting devices.

to me the inc hd and merge dont look like huge upgrades....ill be waiting for the first non-motorola tegra 2 phone (galaxy s 2!!!!) before i jump ship

the inc hd looks to be a reworked desire hd and the merge a g2...so meh

Yea the merge makes me think of nexus s, I was so excited thinking I'm going to have to have it. Then actually looked at everything about it and changed my kind quick. I'm thinking just wait it out I love this phone and when we get froyo and the devs rip it apart and make gb it may have to be torn out of my hands I have one of the free upgrades coming in march so who knows by then

in all honesty if the nexus s was available today on verizon i wouldnt upgrade to it...i would just enjoy the goodies that get ripped from it

i have upgrades coming but wont use them on a phone just cuz its "4g" when i dont have the service available to me for awhile anyway...its gotta be a great phone

I played around with the Merge...A friend of mine is a beta tester for vzw...I would not be jumping ship for it anytime soon. Its a G2 for vzw, and I'm not into sliders at all. Plus the screen is nothing to right home about, and its tied to Bing as well...LOL...brilliant move vzw! I'm hoping the Inc HD is rocking some impressive specs under the Hood because they do make some sexy devices... However, Sense is getting a little long in the tooth though.
