Root GingerShedBread/GSB

Does GSB give us the live wallpaper option? I've never used it in any of my ROMs thus far, but wanted to see how badly it killed the battery life and if it's worth that extra battery drain for what you're getting.

Yes, you can use live wallpapers. The only one I see included in GSB is maps, but I think in the thread on xda there was a post that listed several that play nicely with the eris.

I dunno, I flashed 1.6 last night after a complete wipe (and flashed gapps) and the system seems really laggy. When i go from an app back to the dock screens, it takes quite a few seconds for the widgets and shortcuts to show up.

From what I understand you need to give the phone a little time to settle down. If it's you first time flashing GSB there's a lot of syncing going on. Patience my man.:D

Agreed- this is AS FAST AS when I was xtrROM, just had to give it time!

In addition to the time that it takes the initial set up to finish - GSB will download and install all of your existing apps in the background as part of the initial sync, in addition to syncing calendars, contacts and gmail - you may be having an issue with Launcher Pro being closed in the background while you run other apps.

There is a setting somewhere in LP to remain in memory, plus there is an option in settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Performance which sets keep home in memory. I'd try those two things.

Good tidbit. Seems to be running better today for sure. I hear a lot about SetCPU and overclocking and whatnot, didn't know if it was a case of having to do that....still very much a novice at all of this!

SetCPU (at least the basic functionality) is essentially built into GSB under Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Performance>CPU Settings.

Just don't overclock too high or you could fry your phone. 710 MHz (and below) is widely considered safe. Some go slightly higher than that.

I'm running mine at 748mhz.:D Anything above that and the phone wants to freeze up. I have tried it at 787mhz (like some people say they run at) with different rom's and she'll freeze right up. I think I read somewhere that someone was running at 806mhz. Seems like it would have a meltdown at that speed.:D

"For the penny heat sync: Make sure to use a penny minted before 1984. Ones starting in mid 1985 were only like2%copper. Ones before that are like 98% copper. Sure, it will stillwork, but copper is ridiculously good at transferring heat."

Oh dear lord...

Installed Gingerbread ROM last night, all I can say is wow! I am blown away, thanks to your comments I couldn't resist. Now I have to do the same to my wife's phone.

Thanks
Jeff

while were on this topic... how hot is too hot? i was gonna set a setcpu profile, but im not sure where to set it...

Here's the "grand daddy" thread for overclocking discussions: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/98457-overclocking-hmm.html (not necessarily the best or end-all, just a good, solid collection of comments and discussions; trying doing a thread-search for "overclocking"...you'll get at least 10 pages of search results!).

I think I last had mine set to 43-degrees as the high temp threshold. Your mileage may vary though, depending on if you have a silicone case, how high its overclocked, which ROM you are using, what apps are running (especially tethering or GPS apps), etc...you get the picture. :p

Its a good thread to read through (man, been a while since I've visited that thread though ;)).

Cheers!

Wanted to pop in and say hey to all my Eris buddies. I'm glad to see you guys have a working GB ROM to sink your teeth into. BTW, the screen off animation (old school tube TV shutting off) is one of my fav things about GB as well :)

How's things going in Incredible Land?

Cheers, mate!

I have more time to play around with it this week and it really is fantastic. I'm even running the smartass gov 738 and its flying.

My latest & greatest is that after a period of time (undetermined as of yet) it will 'forget' my settings - so, I want to use Dialer One as my phone interface and when I push the phone button, it asks me how I want to continue.....um, I want to continue how I've set my defaults up to continue, please :)

Intresting you say that. I've been experiencing little gliches. It forgets different ringtones that I have for different contacts among a couple of others.
