Root GingerShedBread/GSB

I'll probably update today. Is it safe to go from 1.7 to 2.0 without a full wipe?

My own method is to always try, then start every single app that I ever use, to make sure that things are running properly. Am I getting the syncs that I expect? (I'll send an email from one account to my gmail account o test, if I don't have something waiting already.) If there is something weird that happens, then I go back and reflash with a data wipe and start from scratch.

I bet that you are trying to flash version 1.8.1. There is a known bug that prevents a proper flash if you are coming from a 2.1 ROM. Since you mention seeing the white HTC screen, that sounds like precisely what is happening.

Try version 1.9 instead.

The format is only "required" if you ever flashed a Froyo ROM. If you never had a Froyo ROM on the phone, you will be all set.

Rather than format the card, you could restart in Recovery, connect the phone to your PC using a USB cable, and select the USB-MS menu option. This will connect the phone's SD card to your computer as an external disk drive. Make sure that your computer is set to show hidden files and folders and then delete the folder called ".android_secure" from your card (note the period at the start of the folder name). You should only have this folder if you ever installed and ran a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM. When you have finished deleting the folder, eject the drive from your computer and press the trackball on the phone to re-connect the SD card to your phone.

1.9 worked fine for me...seems liek this was the problem..thanks all!!

What are your performance settings? Have you tried the smartass governor?

they currently are at the defaults... JIT enabled, compache disabled, and VM heap size set at 32m

i just now changed the VM heap size to the smallest, and locked home in memory and reooted. we will see if it has any affect, but these settings didnt seem to have much of an impact on anything in other versions.

ive currently got the governor set on interactive. ive tried smartass and on demand, and none of them seem to have much of an impact on lag or battery life.

i was having issues waking up my incredible that im not 100% sure wasnt because of the smartass governor,so i havent used it on it or my eris since.

If you flashed an older version wouldn't each app update to the latest? Is that all this is, the latest of each app?

It's hard to say what came from this and what came from GSB 2.0 but I like to have the latest and greatest. Just call it OCD, I guess. :p

if im coming from 1.9 and if i dont do a wipe do i have to flash the gapps to? Also never flashed a rom with out wiping everything but want to try in...of course ill do a backup first but i theory i can just go in and flash the rom?

Yes, you have to re-flash gapps whenever you flash GSB, so you may as well flash the new gapps while you're at it. That's what I did, anyway.

2.0 is working out pretty well for me... Snappiest and longest lasting battery I've had yet with GSB and Android Web Market stopped recognizing me as a Sprint user.

Now that I've said something watch 2.1 come out ...
*fingers crossed*

This happened to me as well. I don't have trackball wake on, but I could not wake the screen in a call without hold VolUp press send.
I have had this problem with my Eris since DAY 1. My phone goes to sleep while on a call, and I can't wake it. Particularly frustrating when I need to hit keys while on a call. No matter what I've done, no matter what ROM I had, like I said it did it even before I rooted, nothing fixed it.

However, now, with GSB 2.0, which I have had for two days now and it is just running amazingly great, LOVE IT!!!!!, with trackball wake I can bring my screen right back up no problem. Oh, did I say this GSB 2.0 is running simply incredible for me. I had 1.7, but had small problems so went bacl to Nonsensikal. Then tasted 1.9, still not perfect. I figured what the heck I'll try the 2.0, and it is just perfect.

Yeah, it's definitely the best ROM I've ever used.

By the way, I just changed my maximum VM heap size to 16 MB and Compcache to 18% and it's more zippy than EVER!

Same here. I've flashed so many Roms in the past few weeks, I'm going to be keeping this for awhile. Shed did a great job, I've had 3 others of his that I liked very much before I installed this. It's running GREAT, and probably only going to get better. So, again, I think I'll have this for awhile. I'll probably just play with personalizing it with different launchers and icons etc., cause I got slightly addicted to playing with this phone before I fall asleep at night, but this Rom is in to stay.

The ONLY think that bums me out, and it's so small but still, is I like having the locking sound when you lock/unlock. Even though I have the box checked to play sound when lock/unlock, it doesn't. Any fixes/suggestions?

I had my VM heap at 24, I'll drop mine also. Just a FTR: I'm running mine with Smartass Gov Max 710 Min 245.

Don't think I've ever heard a sound when you lock/unlock. I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

Me too. But 16 MB maximum VM Heapsize and 18% Compcache is definitely running more responsively. I hope I don't find a reason to have to bump it back up to 24 because this is so much quicker.

I actually had my Compcache disabled. It was suggested in another thread. I put mine at the default 18%, and my heap is now 16 also.

AS FAR AS THE LOCK/UNLOCK SOUND:

Menu/Settings/Sound/then under Feedback/there is a check box three boxes down from Feedback "Screen Lock Sounds". See if yours works. I miss it, it's the coolest little noise. Just a little "click-click" when you come out of lock. Also when it locked, so you knew for sure your phone was locked.

It actually works on mine. You're right. It is pretty cool.

By the way, do you notice any difference with those new settings?
