Giving up my droid to be........A fanboy. :)

Yes, I have decided to go back to the iphone and give the Droid to my wife...I just bought an imac and I am blown away by the pure responsiveness of an apple computer. The Droid beats the iphone in some ways and vise versa, but I still like the fluidity of the iphone over mobile multi tasking. So bash if you must I will probably miss some aspects of the Droid...but I do know full well what I'm doing. Not trying to irritate anyone, I'm sure some have struggled with the same choice.

To each his own. Some of my friends have iphones. And I would never try to convince them to switch, because for them the princess phone is a good fit.

I have a very tech savy friend that has recently been seduced by Apple. He used to go on about his macbook pro and iphone. Since I've gotten the Droid it seems like I have something new to show him every week (google voice, navigation, overclock, roms, live wallpapers, google earth, etc). Now he mainly talks about the next iphone and what it is going to be like.
Not that that has anything to do with this thread, but I didn't figure this thread really had anywhere to go anyways.

You are also switching from Verizon to AT&T which I could never do.

I have such a deep, disturbing HATRED for AT&T that they could have the ONLY smartphone in the world and I'd still stay with my former Moto Razr!! The AT&T exclusive deal with Apple is totally a driving force for Android to flourish for those who think a phone should still be able to make a reliable call.

That said, I think Apple has an ok smartphone. Hell, it brought us the competition (Android) and while Android has surpassed capabilities of the iPhone by a good margin, their is no denying that the iPhone does have a more fluid and polished interface. Perhaps it is because they *don't* allow full 3rd party multitasking, but whatever it is, Android still has some deficiencies to overcome. Grant you, it is pretty darn close, but still needs a little polish and a REAL MUSIC PLAYER, ARGH!

Having never had a Smart phone before, the DROID has wowed me from day one. I keep harping on this, but the main reason I bought it was because it was an uncooked ROM - meaning VZW kept their grubby little paws off of the ROM as Motorola set it up, so I can do all kinds of things to it that I am limited from doing to a normal VZW phone.

Let him go in peace, and please don't try to tell him he'll be sorry / will miss this feature or that feature - he has already used the iPhone in the past, and knows what to expect of it.

Scott - I maintain a lab at uni of 26 Networked iMacs, joined to the school domain running off Windows Server 2003 R2 Domain controllers, and I have to say, even though I am using rEFIt to give a quasi-GUI boot loader to pick between Leopard and XP (installed via boot camp) I have to say the process of setting those things up, and particularly joining them to the Windows domain, as easy as pie - I had the entire room done in less than 2 hours flat.

if you like it, go for it - some of us here aren't going to become reverse fanboys and tell you what you'll miss on the DROID and whatnot....

And some of us in here also won't hit on your wife when she comes in

Amen lol. Also the biggest thing would be going back to the worst carrier in the country lol. That is what kept me from looking into the Iphone last year was because I could not compromise so much!!

The iPhone definitely has some pluses over the Droid, and if you deny that, then you are one delusional fanboy.

-iPhone is A LOT smoother and A LOT snappier/responsive.
-Apple's App store destroy's Android Market, and using the argument that it barely started isn't valid, because the fact remains that Apple's is better for the most part. I will say that Android Market has it's ups, but not enough to overtake Apple's.
-Pinch to zoom works so much better and is implemented in a lot more than on the Droid.
-Email is far better
-Camera is actually functional and doesn't take a year to take a picture, and the better quality that we should have doesn't even show!


With those said, I still prefer my Droid by far, but to say the iPhone has no advantages over the Droid is a little odd.

haven't seen it but i dig android market

-Pinch to zoom works so much better and is implemented in a lot more than on the Droid. thats is getting changed, google and apple had an agreement that no longer exists

ok, i can sometimes give you this one, i have taken amazing photos with my droid, but not all are good quality

I agree with this guy. Everything he said is true. I would've been on the same apple band wagon myself if apple had opened their iphone up to more carries other than apple. Thankfully though they didnt and I needed to find an alternitave on Verizon and the Droid came out. it introduced me to the world of Android which I would have never known about if Apple had shared the wealth. Now I'm enjoying my Android. While it doesnt have the same polish of an iPhone which I didnt like. I like do like the fact that the Droid:

-Multi-tasks (yes it will slow the phone down if you have too many apps running but learn how to turn off what you're not using people)

-It has a beautiful screen much better than the iPhone and the resolusion is awsome only second to the Nexus one

-We can get apps that would never show up in the app store like i Music which you can download free music to your phone, apps from outside the market and even porn apps. Heck we even have a tethering app

-built in google Nav. My iPhone friends wish they had this and the built in googe search

-The verizon network

-Camera sucks but you can take pics in low light settings which iPhone cant do

-Finally the if you're cool with rooting the fact that I can wifi teather, have a far better gallery and voice recodnition keyboard which I use with texting alot.

I have an iPod Touch though so I use the best of both worlds
