I just can't deal with the keyboard lag. I've tried other keyboards and no use. Wiped phone twice and no resolution.
This is a totally biased opinion IMHO,It's hard to chose the iPhone 4 over the EVO, even if it were to come to Sprint, when the EVO beats all the specs of the iPhone besides battery life (small difference), resolution (even so, the EVO kills it there with a much bigger screen) and maybe build quality.
Why would they put that nice 940x640 resolution on a 3.5" screen?? that is probably the dumbest decision they made on this phone.
iPhone: no HDMI, no 4G, no expandable memory, no battery replacement, no kickstand, no flash, no hotspot, much smaller screen. no thanks
i think the new build is setting up for failure because both sides of the iphone 4 is entirely glass w. a steel border. if that device gets dropped, bumped into another hard object the user is gonna be diggin deep into pocket for a new one. considering how fragile it is (unless it is thick durable glass) insurance shouldve been offered this time around. otherwise there will be a lot of users in apple in an uproar AGAIN trying to get a new device. i really respect what apple has done but could they once think about their consumers and not their stock and payroll?
Once you get passed the Steve jobs marketing bs....its a decent upgrade....that being said, it would take a modern day miracle for me to ever give a dollar to the purely evil and craptastic at&t.....
Apple said that they used glass compound that is 50 times stronger than plastic, so it should withstand more abuse than your average plastic (hint, hint) smartphone. Then again who knows which type of plastic they compared against.
Basically we'll just have to wait and see for actual devices to compare
Someone said holy war .... i lol'd, bottom line, im not leaving sprint because I like their plans, cost and customer service also I feel no need to justify my purchases.
If you want mediocrity, take a look in the android app store.
How many iPhone users do you think look at Giz or Engadget? not many, it's not that kind of platform. Android is though - it's for people who like to tinker.
To continue the car theme (although the universe and his dog knows this is a subject lost on most Americans):
The iPhone is like a Porsche. It's aspirational, looks nice, it's expensive and is easy to use. It's not that fast (comparatively), or comfortable, and you can't really play with the suspension settings to make it go faster. If it breaks, you need to use Porsche parts to fix it. The interior is beautiful, and it's design is iconic.
Android is like a kit car/track car. It's for the enthusiast. It's MUCH faster than the Porsche on a track, and you can tweak the hell out of it. It's not so happy in the hands of a normal driver and needs plenty of attention. It's a performer, and you must be willing to put the time in if you want ownership to be a pleasure and not a chore.
Some people like to spend their time tinkering with their track car - and this is why they bought it. Joe Public likes that it's noisy and fast, but wouldn't necessarily want to own one. The Porsche owner is smug. They just want to drive it around and not really push it very hard. It's nice to look at, and ordinary people want one. Your granny could drive it, no problem. The Porsche owner bought the car for the badge - they have never lifted the bonnet.
The Track car owner is happy. They have what they want.
The Porsche owner is happy too. They have what they want also.
THEY ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE!!!!!
Have you seen the MIC on the keyboard? If you pretend to use proper english the voice to txt is the BOMB!
I'm really surprised its that close...considering the iPhone has a userbase of a couple million and the Evo is maybe 500,000.
I sympathize, but iPhone is top dog, and everyone will be compared to the top dog until it is replaced. Android is beyond up and coming, many feel Apple has taken notice and are on the defensive. Why are we talking about iPhones again? I believe there are iPhone forums for that.![]()
I don't mean to call you out specifically, because many many other people out their are using your same analogy, but it is completely wrong.
Android is made to be customizable, however the only thing you can do out of the box is change the homescreen and lockscreen wallpaper, change around your apps, and have widgets.
iPhone allows you (ios4) allows you to change the homescreen and lockscreen wallpaper, change around your apps, however no widgets.
Rooting an android device is the "tinkering" that all of you are talking about is the same thing as jailbreaking an iPhone.
Everyone thinks that rooting can do more than jailbreaking.
JB an iPhone lets you do anything.
the iPhone is running froyo for go sake
YouTube - Android 2.2 Froyo running on the iPhone
The iPhone has ran htc sense, android 1.5 and you can change the lockscreen to the android style, you can add widgets, you can multitask, you can do anything you want with iPhone just like you can with android.
Except with the iPhone you can do more.
All of you are saying that the iPhone is locked down, all you have to do is jailbreak it and it can do more than a rooted android device, and I can prove it by showing many links to things a jailbroken iPhone can do.
Also the Jailbreaking process it one click, download the version for windows and click make it rain, and boom your done.
Android has many different devices and requires alot more steps.
This analogy is completely wrong.
Out of the box android lets you customize alot more.
But after rooting/jailbreaking the device
the iPhone has been customized and changed more than any android device to date.
I just jumped ship from AT&T. I have to tell you, with or without the iphone they SUCK. I was using a blackberry curve and then a razr. In both instances dropped calls, getting voice messages sometimes two and three days later. Getting txt messages sometimes two and three days later. Phone not ringing and then next thing you know (voice mail indicator lights up). I can go on and on about how absolutely horrific their service is.I think that if the new antenna works as Apple hopes, there may be less complaints about AT&T's network.
But Android isn't about the hardware, it's about the OS. And Android is generations ahead of iOS in terms of cloud integration. No iTunes needed to do anything with your phone. No $100/year for an inferior moblieme cloud. This is why the ifans are blind to the shortcomings of iOS, they are still hung up on hardware design and smooth scrolling UI's. This is why Android has such momentum. And this is why, if Apple doesn't wake up and change gears quickly and drastically, Android will soon be top dog.
I found typing to be pretty fast on the EVO, but I know from using other Android phones with slower processors that turning off the haptic feedback can make a big difference in tying speed (Settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Touch Input Settings-->Text Input --> Vibrate when typing)
