My Gmail app on my Infuse 4G is acting up, or at least has been. Restoring to stock is out of the question, since I don't think that will solve the problem. Plus, I've been through that once when I couldn't get the UCKE3 update (but I got that about 4 weeks ago).
I configured Gmail to notify me for every message I get, and it would do that for about 4 or 5 days. But after that time, even if new e-mail arrives, I don't get any kind of notification unless I go into the Gmail app or fiddle with the "Accounts and Sync" settings.
I know when I don't get notified because I also have an iPod touch that is set up to get me my e-mail; the iPod would notify me that I've got new e-mail (but I wouldn't touch it), but my phone doesn't, after having successfully doing so for about 5 days. I check and read my e-mail only on my phone.
What do I have to do so that I don't have to keep playing with my settings to get instantaneous notifications for my e-mail? It gets annoying how I don't get notified of anything when I know I have new e-mail, such as when someone comments on my Facebook status, or if it's something more important.
Yes, both of my data connections (Wi-Fi and mobile network) are working fine. And I don't think it's a server issue on Gmail's end.
Here are my current settings:
1. Sync Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar
2. Notify me in status bar when new mail arrives
3. Notify me for every message in Gmail (the "notify once" checkbox in Gmail is unchecked)
4. Background data and auto-sync in the "Accounts and Sync" settings are both ON.
5. Labels to sync: Inbox and Sent messages; amount to sync is at 999 days, but it doesn't seem to matter what value that is. Gmail doesn't notify me of new e-mail after 4-5 days.
Please help! This is very important to me. Thank you.
