Help Gmail syncing issues...help!

My Gmail app on my Infuse 4G is acting up, or at least has been. Restoring to stock is out of the question, since I don't think that will solve the problem. Plus, I've been through that once when I couldn't get the UCKE3 update (but I got that about 4 weeks ago).

I configured Gmail to notify me for every message I get, and it would do that for about 4 or 5 days. But after that time, even if new e-mail arrives, I don't get any kind of notification unless I go into the Gmail app or fiddle with the "Accounts and Sync" settings.

I know when I don't get notified because I also have an iPod touch that is set up to get me my e-mail; the iPod would notify me that I've got new e-mail (but I wouldn't touch it), but my phone doesn't, after having successfully doing so for about 5 days. I check and read my e-mail only on my phone.

What do I have to do so that I don't have to keep playing with my settings to get instantaneous notifications for my e-mail? It gets annoying how I don't get notified of anything when I know I have new e-mail, such as when someone comments on my Facebook status, or if it's something more important.

Yes, both of my data connections (Wi-Fi and mobile network) are working fine. And I don't think it's a server issue on Gmail's end.

Here are my current settings:

1. Sync Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar
2. Notify me in status bar when new mail arrives
3. Notify me for every message in Gmail (the "notify once" checkbox in Gmail is unchecked)
4. Background data and auto-sync in the "Accounts and Sync" settings are both ON.
5. Labels to sync: Inbox and Sent messages; amount to sync is at 999 days, but it doesn't seem to matter what value that is. Gmail doesn't notify me of new e-mail after 4-5 days.

Please help! This is very important to me. Thank you.

I suggest you ask this question in the forum for your particular phone. It looks like the issue is with your phone and its settings and not exactly the Gmail app. I'm sure that there is a forum for Infuse 4G.

I have a theory but no way right now to verify

I have a similar issue...gmail syncs here and there...then gets to a point that it only syncs when I open the app...

my theory...the infuse seems to go into some sort of sleep mode while the screen is off...whether it be some sort of power management or memory management...many of my push notification apps stop syncing until

a. I turn the screen on
b. open the app

I have not found a solution if this is the case..and fear there is not one.

and of course there is the whole task killer debate...I am not one to tell you not to use them because I have found them useful

do you have any task killer or memory manager apps installed? if so make sure that they are set to "ignore" gmail

I don't have an advanced task killer. All I have is the stock task manager (accessible from long pressing home button). Is there a way for that to ignore Gmail?

In the sync settings, set each individual item to "sync all" (each item below the "days to sync" setting). Also, sign into Talk (Google Talk). In the past, with my Captivate and Inspire, remaining signed into Talk solved syncing issues with Gmail. I believe they may interact with one another to communicate with Google servers. I have mine set to automatically sign in. And no, it won't adversely affect battery life.

The built in task manager will not have an effect on sync.

the suggestion above is great....its easy to forget the simple things in settings.

Open gmail

menu.more.settings.sync inboxes and labels

days i set for 365 all others to all.

i will have to play with gtalk....in the past it WAS a battery hog an I have avoided it since. maybe they fixed it!

What is Google Talk? I couldn't find it in the Market. Do you mean Google Voice, or is it something else?

No dice. I still have the same problem as before. However, I found that resetting everything (including background data and auto-sync) that has to do with Gmail syncing and notifications (via the settings in Gmail app and the stock settings, respectively) fixes the problem temporarily. The problem comes back after about 4 days.

I hope the imminent Gingerbread update for this phone will fix this issue. In the meantime, however, any other suggestions on how this could be fixed are welcome and encouraged.

I've seen someone experiencing the same issue resolve it by clearing data of gmail (if I remember correctly). That'd be worth a shot. You'll just have to set up the settings again.

Firstly, the Gingerbread update is out. Here - Gingerbread

This is not the HTC Inspire 4G. We're talking about the Samsung Infuse 4G, and the Gingerbread update for this phone is not out yet, but soon will be, according to several websites. Google Infuse gingerbread update and click news and then you'll know what I mean.

Lol, I already know what you mean. I just frequent the two forums and sometimes forget which I'm in. I know exactly what the current state of the device is.
