Root Going back to stock

Can someone point me in the direction of the best way to go back to stock 2.1 on my motorola droid. Without losing all my things. Im just wanting to go back for right now.

Thanks.

As far as I know there is no way to go back with out losing everything. Once you lose root, you lose the ability to restore the advanced settings.

I cant think of a sure fire way to get back to stock without loosing everything. I have a few ideas but my ideas are very untested and you could easily loose everything in the process. If you want to give it a shot let me know and I will post back but no promises.

Just all your settings, texts, and icon positions on your desk top, any apps you bought will still be available, it's like buying a new phone, but you get to keep your programs and redownload them

What all will I lose?
Im just wanting to go back, if i have to lose some things i guess im willing too.

well you would loose all your settings and app data. All your contacts are linked to your gmail account so those would be retained. Apps also would also be redownloaded automatically by the market and even if they werent you could do this manually.

With what I am thinking you would be able to save your app data if it worked

Ok, well whats the best way to get back to stock no root?

rom manager has a stock 2.1 no root rom. If you dont have rom manager it is free from the market.

rom manager shows Verizon Droid 2.1 Stock- stable, radio, rooted

and Verizon Droid 2.0.1 Stock- stable, NOT rooted. but this one has errors downloading.

oops.... sorry about that.

what about flashing 2.0.1 with RSDlite would that have root ?

may I ask why you want to go back ?

My idea for getting back to stock and saving app data is this. Its going to sound very backwards at one point but stick with me.

First backup all your apps and app data with Titanium Backup.
Then sbf back to 2.0.1
Then root your 2.0.1 setup
Restore your apps and app data with titanium backup.
Then reboot into recovery and use adb to get rid of su and superuser.apk
Finally force the 2.1 update.

The 2.1 update will put the stock recovery back. I cant think of anything else that would be left behind from rooting.

That definetly sounds like it would work but in my opinion...a lot of wasted time going through the process of going to 2.0.1. Id persoanlly say just download the 2.1 file from the links posted above...write down or remember the applications you had downloaded and simply install a fresh 2.1. You will lose your apps but it's nothing you can't redownload.
