Root Going from Droid to EVO 4g

Well, my work is thinking about switching to Sprint. That means I will lose my droid. :( I feel like the EVO is a nice phone, and 4g will be awesome... but I'm afraid I'm going to miss the droid a lot.

It looks like the EVO was finally rooted not too long ago. But it doesnt look like it has been OC'ed yet, right? I like running my droid around 1.1ghz, which compared to the EVO 1ghz, isnt too much of a loss.

I'm not a huge themer, so I dont care so much about stock look.

What do you guys think I will miss the most? Or is the EVO a nice upgrade??

Lets here some opinions.

If there is no way to OC, I'm not sure I'll even try rooting it! :(

I dont think you will miss the droid much unless you are a heavy keyboard user. Only other thing you might miss would be the small form factor.

Other than those two things the EVO is a fantastic upgrade.

I would root and put Cyanogenmod on it if I were you but then again I very much dislike SenseUI
 
Haven't used the EVO personally, but you'll still be going from Android to Android, so don't worry too much. You won't really need to overclock it as you did with the Droid; stock speeds should be impressive. The only thing I would really miss would be Verizon and the keyboard. I don't know how nice the screen is since I haven't seen it myself, but I'm sure it's a very nice phone.

What exactly dont you like about Sense?

I've used a HTC HD2 Windows phone with Sense and hated it... I just wanna make sure its the Windows that I hated and not the Sense. :)

I don't like it either. Not because it's bad - it's not bad. The integration is very well done and it has a lot of useful features. Personally I just don't like the additional resources being used for something that I don't have the option to turn off, and I'm not at all a fan of the appearance of it.
 
There a lot that I do not like about senseui honestly. But mostly it boils down to the fact that I think its a lot of bloatware that slows the phone down and slows down updates. That being said if the EVO was on version and my NE2 was up I would be getting an EVO over the DX or the Inc. Main reason I would get it over the DX is the DX has that stupid encrypted bootloader.

Cyanogenmod 6 is out for the EVO and there may be other roms out for EVO that dont have sense so I wouldnt make that a deciding factor.
 
I had a coworker who returned his EVO for a Vibrant because he said the battery life on the EVO was so poor (especially using 4G). I'm sure there's plenty of threads out there regarding it, but I imagine it's mostly the screen that depletes the battery the most.
 
I got my HTC Evo about 2-3 days ago and I do in fact miss my droid :( :( :( I love the evo though. I thought I was gonna hate the on screen keyboard but as big as the screen is it makes using it to type so much easier and faster than the motorola droid. I love this phone...except for the battery life. Try it out and see what you think. You do get the free 30 day thing from sprint which im' still on so give it a try.
 
Actually the Droid is a very good phone, but I'm bias being that I have the EVO already, so to me its the best.
For those that feel that losing Sense is a turn off, there are quite a few apps on the market that somewhat duplicate the look without bogging down the system.

You can definitely overclock the Evo!!! I think 1.2 or 1.3ghz is the most I've seen. With a rooted Evo you can flash roms that take away Sense, I have the Cyanogenmod Froyo rom without sense and I don't miss the Sprint stuff at all. I installed SprintTV but that's it. My battery life is fine, I think people complain of battery life because they have a bunch of apps syncing in the background (if it's being drained on standby). Obviously, using the phone alot with a bunch of radios running is gonna drain the battery, but that's the same with any phone. Try turning on bluetooth and gps on a blackberry and see how long the battery lasts. I'm been using my phone lightly for the past 3 hours almost and I'm at 90%

As what was said, you can root your phone and flash on a ROM + Kernel that allows for overclocking plus Froyo plus an FPS unlock for certain models of the Evo.

The main reason why people will flash a different rom is to get rid of the Sense UI. Its a matter of preference but Sprint's apps really do kill battery life. Another reason is to get Froyo and the JIT. It is a significant performance boost along with the FPS unlock.

We can overclock to about 1.3GHz but it seems that 1.1GHz with the FPS unlock and Froyo seems to be the most stable, non battery killing, performance beast that a lot of people are resorting to. Anything above 1.3GHz or so has been found by many to be unstable. Check out the root section of XDA's forums for OC kernels.
 
i overclock to 1.1 but the best thing about it is underclocking. I set a profile with setcpu to throttle down to 245mhz when the screen is off and my battery basically flatlines till i use the phone again.

I used to do that, but I got tired of my phone being sluggish when I unlocked it. I've been unplugged for over 10 hours now, and I'm at 64% remaining.
